A few people have messaged us about this story from the Massachusetts State Police:
At about 1:30 a.m. today, State Police from the Weston barracks responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Route 90 westbound in Westborough, which resulted in the death of one occupant. Preliminary investigation by Trooper Richard McCarron indicates that a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer was traveling westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the operator, a 20-year-old Worcester man, lost control of the vehicle causing it to leave the right side of the roadway and strike a rock ledge. As a result of that collision, the driver and three occupants were ejected from the vehicle. One of the four ejected landed in the roadway and was subsequently struck by multiple vehicles which were traveling westbound at the time.
The occupant who was struck in the roadway, a 26-year-old female from Spencer, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other five occupants, an 18-year-old female from Shrewsbury, a 21-year-old male from Charlton, a 35-year-old male from Spencer, a 36-year-old male from Worcester, and the driver were all transported to UMass Medical Center in Worcester for treatment of serious injuries.
Evidently they were coming back from a Halloween party in Salem. One of the people recorded everyone in the vehicle as they were apparently about to leave for home. The video was posted to Facebook by “Jason J Dudes Moodley,” and was posted with the question, “Where’s the after party? #suicidesquad,” an hour before the fatal accident in Westborough:
This video is obviously chilling because it’s the woman’s last moments on earth. We’ve seen the family and some friends posting on Facebook and they seem to want the video to stay up because they want to see their loved one enjoying herself in her final moments. The victim’s name was Ashley Sheehan, and she was a mother of three:
We’re not here to judge at all. It’s a tragedy. We’ve seen from commentary on Facebook and on the Turtlegram’s article on the story that people are already speculating about alcohol. Other people have pointed out that one person in the car is smoking weed. Don’t even go there. Don’t blame this on weed and turn it into propaganda to vote No on Question 4. Marijuana is illegal and this still happened. Legalizing it isn’t gonna prevent or increase the chances of this happening. If the driver was high, then he was high. Making it legal or illegal isn’t gonna stop that from happening in the future.
It’s been raining for days now. The roads were wet. All it takes it a temporary distraction and a quick jerk of the wheel and you can find yourself in a skid that you can’t get out of. These people were obviously normal folks who were having a fun night out on Halloween. We’ve all been there before. For now the only lesson to be learned here is the importance of seat belts. Because although the accident happened, it didn’t mean anyone had to die. But if you don’t strap yourself in, your body is at the will of inertia and all bets are off.
Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased and the others who are in currently in the hospital.
