WCVBFall River police are no longer investigating what at first they called an attempted abduction after the 60-year-old woman who reported the incident said she may have been mistaken.

The woman said two men in a white van tried to abduct her off a city street on Wednesday evening. The van was caught on surveillance video.

Police said Thursday that the woman has a history of mental illness, and after tracking down the van and talking to the owners, are confident that no crime occurred.

The owner of the van says the whole episode has left her shaken.

Olivia Silvia tells The Herald News she’s distraught and afraid to drive the van around the city with her 6-month-old baby after people made online threats about burning or vandalizing the vehicle.

Silvia, who owns the van with her boyfriend, Kyle Botelho, told The Herald News that she burst into tears after seeing surveillance images of their van being disseminated early Thursday morning on social media.

“I’m just so distraught from it. I don’t think it’s right that they didn’t investigate before putting that picture out,” said Silvia, who was also disturbed by many online comments threatening to vandalize and burn the van.

Silvia said she parked the van at Kennedy Park rather than drive it around the city on Thursday. She said a relative told her Thursday morning that the van had already been vandalized and its spare tire ripped out.

Usually I side with the police, but I have to call shananigans on this one. Hey maybe before putting out an APB about innocent people driving in a van, maybe you should make sure the woman who told you she was almost just abducted isn’t a complete psychopath? How bout that? Because the fact of the matter is it’s 2015 and when you post about someone trying to kidnap a 60 year old woman on Facebook, how do you think people are gonna react to that? You’re basically encouraging an online mob, because 95% of people on the Internet believe everything they see. Might wanna make sure next time that you’re not sending a gaggle of local Fall River boobs after a Mom and her 6- month old.

The best part is the 60 year old woman probably won’t even get in trouble for this one. Just the crazy old lady from the Riv doing her thing on a Thursday. Same time next week.

What this old broad did put in danger the lives of the young woman driver and her child. The old broad should be charged at least with endangering the child. She should also be sued by the young woman for damages…even if that means the old broad has to give up every penny of her “benefits” (for being mentally ill).
