It’s official – straight, white, cisgendered, Christian males cannot be the victims of hate crimes. At least according to the Greenfield Human Rights Commission in this story published in the Greenfield Recorder.
There was some discussion during the Appointments and Ordinance Committee meeting about how a hate crime should be defined in the ordinance. Councilors and members of the public were in agreement that a hate crime can’t happen to anyone, but rather to members of protected classes. Resident Emma Morgan said during the meeting that state and federal rights under Title IX, the Americans with Disabilities Act and Fair Housing laws exist because lawmakers have come to recognize that not all members of society have equal protection under the law.
“The laws are not designed to protect those who already have these privileges in our society from those who don’t,” she said. “Let’s not make the grave mistake of confusing hate-based incidents with garden-variety, personal biases and prejudices, however unseemly. Hate-based incidents, which target people of color; LGBT people; people from non-Christian backgrounds and people with disabilities are part and parcel to the kinds of bias and oppression that are not personal, but institutional and structural, and which require concentrated and persistent effort to dismantle.”
Emma Morgan, who of course is a white woman, has arbitrarily decided that you have to be a member of a “protected class” of people, in order to potentially be the victim of a hate crime. The best is that people from “non-Christian” backgrounds make the cut. They CAN be victims. Does this include people who were born catholic but then stopped going to church? Does it include atheists? Agnostics? Church of Scientology? Or is this just a polite way of saying, “be nice to Muslim people?”
The best is that she says that people of color, LGBT, non-Christians, and the disabled are victims of “bias and oppression.” Newsflash – no they’re not. Because literally NO ONE in America is oppressed. Name one human being suffering from oppression at the hands of the government. You can’t. As a matter of fact most of the people just named get special treatment from the government that others don’t. For instance, we just had a gay pride parade in Worcester. The mayor, congressman, and a whole bunch of others marched with them through the streets. The government actively promotes the cause of the gay community. Must be hard being oppressed.
This is Karen Renaud and her wife, the woman who started this whole thing:
You will notice that she is a lesbian. Which is great. Big fan of that. But it’s just so convenient that she managed to pencil herself in as being a member of an oppressed group of people. As you can tell from the photograph, she’s really having a hard time getting by with all this hatred towards people like her.
The Human Rights Commission has also created a position within the police department for an officer to be a liaison to the HRC. But there’s a catch – the cops has to possess the ability to be the victim of a hate crime too:
“The civil rights officer would be a member of the Police Department and under the current draft, would preferably be identified as one to whom a hate crime could be committed.”
Just think of how insane this is. Let’s say some nutjob decides to burn down a catholic church in Greenfield. This isn’t a hate crime because Christians cannot be the victim of hate crimes. Let’s suppose someone spray paints “cracker bitch” or “white pig” on a cop’s house. This isn’t a hate crime because white guys can’t be the victim of oppression.
The best part is that Greenfield is exactly 1.34% black. It’s an overwhelmingly white town, and the white people who chose to live there did so because they don’t want to live around large populations that include people of color. Look, you can live wherever you want, and with who you want, but don’t sit there and lecture other people about race when you don’t know the first thing about race. This is just another example of hippie white people who feel guilty that they live in a homogenous town, trying to show the world that they’re not racist. But they always just go way too far, and they end up looking like idiots.
