Greenfield Police Department Facebook page: On Friday, June 24, 2016, at 1:45PM, officers from the Greenfield Police Department responded to the Winslow Building at 9 Wells Street for a report of a large fight involving weapons. Lt. Joseph Burge, Sgt. Stephen Westerling, Officers Patricia West, WilliamTrueswell, Laura Gordon, Cody Guilbault, and Detective Todd Clark all responded to the scene. Upon arrival on scene officers located the subjects involved in the fight, as well as many witnesses to it. One of the parties involved was identified as Raymond Segarra, age 43, of 9 Wells Street in Greenfield. Segarra admitted to officers that he had been involved in the fight. Officers noticed Mr. Segarra was wearing gloves and asked him why; he replied, “Because I hit harder with gloves on.”
Officers spoke with others who were involved in the fight and witnessed it. They reported that there was first a verbal altercation, initiated by Mr. Segarra, with two of the individuals inside the building. Mr. Segarra allegedly then followed the two outside, holding a broom. Mr. Segarra allegedly yelled a racial epithet at the two men and the group they were with outside. He then went back inside the building. A few minutes later, Mr. Segarra came back outside, this time wearing gloves and holding a knife. One of the male parties from the group outside grabbed a pipe that was nearby to defend himself, he reported. Statements from those involved in the altercation, as well as witnesses, indicated that Mr. Segarra threatened to cut one of the parties while repeatedly calling him by a racial epithet. No injuries were reported to any party involved.
The investigation determined that Mr. Segarra and one of the victims have a prior history and open and ongoing court cases between them them. Furthermore, it was determined that one of the victims has an active Harassment Protection Order against Mr. Segarra. Officers viewed surveillance footage from the building’s security system as part of their on-scene investigation.
Raymond Segarra was placed under arrest on probable cause for the following charges: Assault by Dangerous Weapon (2 counts); Intimidation of a Witness (2 counts); Violation of a Harassment Protection Order; and Interference with Civil Rights. Bail was set at $2,500. Mr. Segarra was transferred to the Franklin County Jail to be held pending his arraignment on Monday, 6/27/16, in Greenfield District Court.
The most amazing part of this story was that he wasn’t arrested for that man bun. I’m not sure if that’s illegal yet, but it probably should be. You know that the guy you’re messing with is one crazy mofo with nothing to lose when he’s rocking the man bun. Raymond Segarra has ice water pouring through his veins. How bout that knee jerk answer when the cops asked him why he had gloves on:
“Because I hit harder with gloves on.”
Legend. Cold as ice.
First he comes out with the broom, but his adversaries were unimpressed. So it was time for round two – the gloves, knife, and racial epithets. Also known as the OJ Simpson starter kit. You know who’s gonna fuck with the crazy dude with a man bun holding a knife and yelling racial slurs? Nobody. Only a matter of time until Raymond Segarra settles down in Colrain. He’ll fit right in there.
