Booneghazi has come and gone, but don’t forget who the #1 enabler and supporter of Melinda Boone was while she was here – Mayor Jumpin’ Joe Petty. He had GLOWING things to say about her on the way out. Let’s examine all the lies he wrote…

1. Worcester is losing a talented and passionate leader.

Talented? That’s what you call ignoring a serious epidemic of violence in order to artificially inflate test scores and graduation rates? Talent? Sure thing Joe!!

2. Despite the many challenges inherent in a large urban school district, the WPS have improved in almost every way the last six years.

Yup, the charts certainly have improved. Sure teachers are leaving the district in a mass exodus. Sure over half the teachers at Vernon Hill transferred as a result of a Boone appointed principal making their lives miserable. Sure attendance records in some schools were ordered to be manipulated in order to improve attendance rates. Sure a couple pedophiles were arrested and covered up by Boone. Sure some principals got punched in the face. But don’t worry, because this chart over here says the schools improved. Joe Petty of course wouldn’t know anything about public schools or what it means to improve them, since he had the luxury of sending his children to private school. A public official with no confidence in his own schools? Yea, that sounds like a guy who really believe the schools are improving.

3. Our graduation rate has risen every year the past five years. Our dropout rate has fallen to 2.4%, the lowest it’s been in two decades.

Yea, that will tend to happen when you refuse to suspend kids and hire teachers like Lisa Dyer who force their teachers to pass kids along who haven’t met the minimum requirements for graduation.

4. More students are taking AP tests than ever before.

Yes, because the city accepted grant money that was conditional upon enrolling more students enrolling in AP. By doing so they’ve dramatically increased the amount of students who have failed AP tests. Passing rates on AP tests have gone from 44% to 34% under Boone’s tenure. There is literally no purpose of taking an AP class if you don’t pass the test. The whole purpose is to get a passing grade of at least 3 (although most colleges now require a 4 or 5), so that students can get three college credits. If you fail the test you wasted a whole year and likely received a grade substantially lower than you would have gotten in a normal honors class. Melinda Boone set these students up for failure in order to increase her AP enrollment chart.

5. Worcester Tech was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, and its principal, Sheila Harrity, was named national principal of the year.

We like Sheila Harrity and we think that she’s a fine administrator. However, RBG could probably be an effective principal at Worcester Tech. The fact that students have to apply to get into the school automatically weeds out the lazy assholes who don’t give a shit about school. The fact that they have seemingly unlimited resources and a state of the art building make it a lot easier to learn than in a place like Burncoat, where water is dripping from the ceilings. Schools like North got what was left over after Worcester Tech drained that quadrant of some of it’s brightest and most talented students.

6. The school (Tech) was so successful that Obama chose Worcester Tech as his only high school graduation to attend in 2014.

Obama didn’t choose anything. His people did – particularly the massive failure known as Arne Duncan. Arne played basketball at Harvard. Sheila Harritty played ball at Providence College. A young, articulate, athletic principal from an urban area that artificially improved test scores, and redefined what it meant to go to a Voke school made Worcester Tech an easy pick for Duncan. Obama had never heard of this school before his aides told him he would be going there in June of 2014.

7. I will ask that we appoint Chief Academic Officer Marco Rodrigues as interim Superintendent for the remainder of the school year, while we conduct a search for a new leader.

Oh, you mean like how you recommended that Ed Augustus be the “interim” city manager? Yea, he’s still here, trying to sell children’s ballfields and to Worcester State so they can turn them into a parking lot.

Marco Rodriguez’ position of “chief academic officer” never existed before Boone came to town. He makes $145,000 per year. Boone created that position out of thin air, and as a result South High football is begging for money, Burncoat slashed its arts program, Doherty got rid of the Madrigal singers, and there’s no more middle school basketball.

The position of “chief academic officer” is something that Broad Institute grads like Melinda Boone are taught to bring into “failing” school districts. The Broad Institute was founded by a billionaire lucky sperm who wanted to privatize public schools, destroy teacher’s unions, and turn public schools into for-profit charter schools. Boone was sent here to destroy public education in Worcester, and Marco Rodriguez was one of her biggest henchmen.

People have asked us who we think should be the new superintendent. The first name that comes to mind is Maureen Binienda but I don’t think I wanna see that. She’s too important to South High School, which has managed to to run like a well oiled machine, despite having the same demographics as North. I’d take her, but at the same time I’d worry what would happen to South.

Our only requirements for a new superintendent are as follows:

  • They have to be anti-data.
  • They have to have a sustained and successful career IN THE CLASSROOM, so they know how policy affects teachers and students on the ground.
  • They have to be from Worcester. The last thing we need is another carpetbagger in here who doesn’t understand the pulse of the town and uses Worcester as their guinea pig for the Broad Institute.

The Worcester State parking plan was a good idea. But some still complained. So no parking solution.

Hey I have tried to comment on this subject but got rejected on three occasions. Oh well. Believe me, I was no fan of Dr. Boone. Thanks a lot Turtleboy for excluding my opinions.

The cruelest thing the Telegram ever does is to quote Petty verbatim. His verbal skills are even uglier than his fat ferret face.

Peg is retired. TB, don’t be selfish. At this time, Maureen Binienda is the right person for the job! ALL WPS employees need the next superintendent to value their worth. Maureen Binienda loves this City, loves the schools, and would never , ever say she felt abused. I am sure she could name someone who could replace her at South High as right now she has a larger calling.

I love Maureen Binienda and she is a fabulous Principal. Running a great school doesn’t make you the right person to run all of them though, and I would hate to see SHS suffer just so she can be a temp Superintendent. I may be wrong, and I’m sure everyone will correct me of I am lol, but you need your Doctorate to be permanent Supt…

Spanky’s column didn’t disappoint! Can’t wait for TB to demolish it!

Boone is the worst Super in a long time. Good riddance. TBS in no small part due to your efforts.

Is Margaret Vendetti still a quadrant manager? I think she would make a great superintendent.

She was my principal at WAMS for awhile, when I was going there

        She must have retired.

She retired quite a while ago.
