I knew David Price was gonna pitch a gem tonight. Of course he goes six strong innings and strikeouts 9 on the way. It’s so David Price it hurts. This is who he is when he wants to be – one of the most dominant left handed pitchers in baseball. The kind of stud who can go head to head against Justin Verlander and lead his team to the World Series. He should be a sub 3 ERA, 20 win pitcher every single year. But he’s not because at the end of the day he’s David Price. He gives 100% when he feels like it, and tonight was one of those nights. And you knew it was gonna be one of those nights because there was no pressure. Everyone expected the Red Sox to lose, and we’d still probably go to the World Series if we did lose.
I still hate him and probably will forever unless he becomes the sub 3 ERA, 20 win pitcher he should be. Tonight only reaffirms that position. This is the guy we could get all the time but don’t, because he’s David Price. He puts together just enough solid performances to keep his ERA respectable every year, but he doesn’t come close to earning his $30 million salary. He loses the big games you know he’s going to lose, but then he wins the games like this that we can afford to lose. This is who he is. He tries when the fuck he feels like trying. Luckily tonight he felt like being an alpha male and we’re going back to the World Series where we have not lost in over 100 years.
And to be honest, I enjoy hating David Price. I almost prefer him as the villain and would prefer to win in spite of him. I guess I’ll take it though. When you’re God’s chosen people you don’t get to choose how he showers duckboat parades on you. You just show up when it’s time.
