Washington Post: For a while — a very short while – it looked as if the American flag had seen its last days on the campus of the University of California at Irvine.
On March 3, the Associated Students of the University of California passed a resolution that would ban national flags from the lobby and offices of student government, according to a statment posted on UCI News.
Penned by Matthew Guevara, a student in the school of social ecology, the resolution stated: “Designing a culturally inclusive space aims to remove barriers that create undue effort and separation by planning and designing spaces that enable everyone to participate equally and confidentially.”
“The American flag has been flown in instances of colonialism and imperialism,” the resolution continued. “Flags not only serve as symbols of patriotism or weapons for nationalism, but also construct cultural mythologies and narratives that in turn charge nationalistic sentiments.”
The resolution noted that in certain spaces “freedom of speech” can be interpreted as “hate speech.”
The measure passed with a 6 to 4 vote in the student legislative council that included two abstentions, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The ban didn’t last long.
Four days after its birth, the radical push to remove national symbols from student government facilities was dead. On Saturday, student leaders vetoed the resolution, according to the Times.
A student who spoke with Breitbart News on condition of anonymity that she heard a member of the ASUCI discussing “the [American] flag and how it triggered people.” She then said she believed a major line of reasoning behind the legislation to remove the flag could have been a “precautionary step” to prevent a trigger situation where if someone is an “illegal citizen or [they] have citizenship issues, it makes them feel bad.
The American flag had hung on a wall in the student government suite, according to the Associated Press. Recently, the AP reported, someone placed it on the desk of Reza Zomorrodian, council president and head of the executive cabinet, “with an anonymous note saying it shouldn’t be in the lobby.”
OK this story happened a couple days ago and we didn’t even bother with it because it was honestly too easy. At this point the hippies have completely abandoned any attempt to be taken seriously. I’m convinced that they’re just doing whatever it takes to draw attention to themselves in any way they can. Because no one in their right mind is actually offended by the American flag. If they really wanna dedicate themselves to banning flags then go after this one:
I fucking hate seeing rednecks fly that loser flag in a vain attempt to stick it to Obama. The Confederate flag is basically the same thing as flying the flag of ISIS. It was an imaginary country that never existed filled with dirty traitors who caused the deadliest war in American history because they didn’t wanna pay their laborers. Fuck them.
Here’s the thing, they don’t really believe any of this garbage. They’re just doing it to make you mad, and I’m not buying into the outrage. They’re no different than internet trolls. These are the six who voted to ban the flag:
Obviously they don’t think America is a racist imperial country. After all, they’re living the life of luxury in America. They’re tasting the sweet delicious fruit of American freedom. They represent a vast array of nationalities, which means at some point in their ancestry someone in their family left wherever they are from and came to America because it was a superior way of living. They represent everything that is AMAZING about America. Our diversity, our freedom of speech, our affluence, our higher education. They fucking LOVE America.
But unfortunately for them they’re going through this whole “campus radical who hates American imperialism” phase. Lots of kids go through it. Unfortunately they took it one step too far and now when you Google any of their names for the rest of their lives this will come up. Should be fun for them to look for a job!! Maybe they can move back to some nice third world country and find a job there peddling fish or something. Nah, they’re not gonna do that. They love America way too much and so do I.
