The Red Sox lost to the Blue Jays 3-2 tonight – the 21st time this season they’ve lost by exactly one run. That’s insane. What makes it worse is the night before they beat the Blue Jays 13-2. In other words they’ve outscored them 15-4 but the series is at 1-1. Those nine extra runs they scored in the first game? Worth shit. Don’t get me wrong – it’s been AMAZING to watch the renaissance of the bats this year. But the fact that this team hits like it does and the fact that Ric Porcello is gonna win 20 games, means this team should be in first in the AL East by at least 10 games.
But they’re not. Because winning by 10 runs and then losing the next day by one has been their M.O. all season. It’s the sign of a shitty manager, plain and simple. If they don’t win by a million then they don’t win.
If the Red Sox had a real manager like Joe Girardi they’d be clinching the division this week. The Yankees are 76-65. Eleven games over .500. This is a team that literally gave up and threw in the towel at the trade deadline. They have a run differential of -5. Ya got that? A team that’s been outscored on the season is 11 games above .500 and in the hunt for a playoff spot. Why? Oh yea, because they’ve won 24 games by exactly one run. That’s what good managers do. If Turtleboy was managing the Red Sox on Friday night they would’ve won that game. Because ANYONE can win a game when your team scores 13 runs. But you pay managers to win the close ones. Because when you’re playing in October, you’re gonna be in nailbiter games. And the Red Sox are great and all, but anyone who feels confident about this team winning a close game in October is delusional.
So yea, it’s been AWESOME to have a relevant team once again. But what makes us the greatest fans in America is the fact that we demand the most from our teams. This team SHOULD make the playoffs, but if they don’t win the division, what use is it? You wanna be in a one game wild card playoff against a Red Sox killer like Chris Tillman or Justin Verlander or J.A. Happ? Cuz I don’t. I’d rather by in first place by 10 games and be guaranteed to have homefield until the World Series. Just sayin.
We urge you to support the Turtleboy Sponsors by doing business with them. Without them none of this is possible. Click on any of them to check out their sites or Facebook pages.
