“I don’t see color.” It’s almost as if she is “color-blind.” Funny that this is something that is championed and turned into a positive when someone who isn’t white says it. Because I seem to remember an incident last year in which a white teacher at North High School was called racist, and eventually lost her job because she said she was “color blind” when she looks at her students.
Oh yea, Janice Harvey. So when she says she’s color blind her Fascist Principal Lisa Dyer (whose diddler son was recently fired at Doherty High School for being inappropriate with female students, but yet is still teaching) writes an email to the entire faculty (including janitors) in which she explicitly calls Ms. Harvey a racist. But when a new teacher who is more diverse says it, they get a front page story about how great they are. Because….progress!!
The article was about a new teacher hired at Sullivan Middle School who is Peruvian. And as a Latina, this diversifies the teaching staff at a diverse high school, and everyone wins because diversity is good. Oh yea, and black kids can’t effectively learn from white teachers. Neither can Hispanic kids:

In the Worcester public schools, roughly 85 percent of the teaching staff last school year was white, according to the state’s data. More than two-thirds of the district’s students, meanwhile, are minorities.
Ms. Echevarria, a longtime educator from Miami who is preparing for her first year teaching special education students at Sullivan Middle School, agreed there is often a sense of understanding between herself and Hispanic students.
“I’m proud to be Hispanic,” she said. “I’m proud to speak their language, I’m proud to eat the food they like.”
Let’s try something just for a moment to see how it sounds. Let’s substitute the word “white” for “hispanic” in this teacher’s quote, and see how it would go over:

Ms. Angl0-Saxon would be fired before the first day of school. And rightfully so because it’s inherently racist to assume that because you have a certain skin color or ethnicity you are more well equipped to teach students who are the same race or ethnicity.
Everyone with a brain knows the truth – it doesn’t matter what race your teacher is. The only thing that matters is if they can do the job. If kids feel they can’t learn from a white teacher then this is something they have to get over. If they can’t, then that sucks for them. It’s not our job to cater to racism.
But according to the racist mayor of Worcester, this ridiculously racist theory is true:
The relative lack of teachers of color in the school system was one of the several race-related issues brought up last year in the city’s race dialogues, and it hasn’t escaped the notice of city leaders. Worcester Mayor Joseph M. Petty, who chairs the School Committee, said hiring more diverse teachers is a priority for the schools.
“Just having teachers of color in the schools makes a difference,” he said. “It has a great impact – I believe it improves test scores, graduation rates, absenteeism. They serve as a role model.”
What does Joe Petty know about teaching? Oh yea, nothing!! Because he’s a graduate of St. John’s High School who has never spent a day in a Worcester Public School his entire life. But yet here he is telling white teachers that they can’t teach students of color as effectively as non-white teachers. Because that makes TONS of sense!!!
The bottom line is that teaching staffs aren’t diverse because people of color don’t apply for teaching positions nearly as often as white people do. Because when you are a person of color with a Master’s Degree (teachers have to attain Master’s Degrees) you can make a lot more money in the private sector than you can as an underpaid and under-appreciated public school teacher. Stupid facts!!
