This might be one of the funniest and very real stories we’ve read in a while. Of all the hippie protesters out there, Jennifer VanSant from the small town of Great Barrington might be the most ridiculous:
Her heart racing, she knew what she had to do. It was Monday night (September 20) and Jennifer VanSant had just watched a video of Tulsa, Oklahoma police killing an unarmed black man, Terrence Crutcher, then leaving him there on the road to die. She went out to the shed. She got an old poster board and some ceiling paint. She needed to sleep, so she got up early Tuesday and made a sign while the rest of the Berkshires still slept, ate breakfast, or went about their usual routine.
“DEMAND JUSTICE FOR TERENCE CRUTCHER”
Heart still racing, she knew what she would do.
“I almost talked myself out of it so many times,” she said.
Southbound in downtown Great Barrington, she stopped her car, put on her flashers. She sent a group text to her family about her “symbolic” stop: “I’m really scared, but I’d be a lot more scared if I was black.”
But she is a woman.
“Get the fuck out of the road you stupid bitch,” is the first thing she hears from another driver, who makes a dangerously close turn as she settles in.
“Racism and sexism go hand in hand,” she tells me. “I was nervous but not surprised.”
It was the only bit of unpleasantness in 20 minutes. Many drivers honked and waved in support. Along came Officer Jonathan Finnerty from the Great Barrington Police Department. He asked VanSant how she was doing. “Then he asked me what I was doing.”
He explained that she couldn’t protest in the street, but VanSant held her ground, and tearing up, said she wouldn’t move. She explained why she was there.
“I’m with you, but I can’t let you protest in the street,” Finnerty reportedly said.
“You have a chance to stand with me,” she told him.
She said he was “very kind and very supportive of my efforts,” but told her he would have to arrest her for disorderly conduct if she didn’t move to the corner, and relocate her car. VanSant described her feelings at that moment. “As uncomfortable as I feel, Terence Crutcher’s family is going to feel this way for the rest of their lives.”
“You’re under arrest you need to stand up.”
She held tight to her chair. “You’re going to need backup because I’m heavier than I look.”
Finnerty smiled. Backup came. Now there would also be a “resisting arrest” charge.
“I had to be at work at 10, I only had an hour and wanted hundreds of people to see the sign and a white person holding it. Then I looked at him and I couldn’t ask this young guy to drag me down to the police station.”
He and Sergeant Adam Carlotto helped her set up her chair and sign on the corner, and she moved her car.
“I caved. I’m the worst protester in the world. I was pretty sure that my white privilege would protect me, but I was really scared because the world feels really out of control and crazy. I know Americans of color live with that on daily basis. I got to feel that feeling of, ‘I don’t know what’s going to happen today’.”
What a magnificent creature this SJW is:
A true American hero right here. Fixing racism one Berkshire blockade a time. Sure, about 7,000 people live in Great Barrington which makes it half the size of Oxford, but that doesn’t mean this protest wasn’t one of the most meaningful protests in American history. This comment right here might go down as one of the great quotes in civil rights history:
“I was pretty sure that my white privilege would protect me, but I was really scared because the world feels really out of control and crazy.”
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!! She blocked “traffic” on a street with multiple lanes in a town that’s smaller than Rutland. That’s pretty dangerous stuff right there. Few people make it out of that alive. She naively thought her white privilege would protect her from the dangers of a friendly police officer kindly asking her to protest on the sidewalk, but boy was she wrong!!! Scary stuff!!! People were honking at her, and saying all sorts of MEAN THINGS!!!
This was my favorite part:
“I caved. I’m the worst protester in the world.”
It’s funny because a minute before that she was a modern day Rosa Parks:
“You’re going to need backup because I’m heavier than I look.”
Then she was like, nah, “I like black people and all, but I’m not trying to have a minor infraction on my record for them.” It’s OK, few people can overcome the horror of having people honk at them in Great Barrington.
The best part is all the morons calling her brave:
Good God, look at all these hilarious white people. They all really think they’re experts on the African-American experience because they read about it once on Twitter. I guess when you go out of your way to live in a town with almost no black people the only way you can learn about people who look differently than you do is by reading the Huffington Post.
Speaking of, we went on Jennifer VanStan’s Facebook page to see if she actually knows or associates with anyone who looks differently than her. But it turns out it’s just a bunch of white people. But it’s cool because she found a cardboard cutout of a black chick to pose for a photo with:
That counts, right?
So it turns out this woman is from one of the wealthiest families in town. She runs a local shop called “Going Gnome.” They sell cheap gnomes that no one wants, because that’s the kind of business you can afford to go into when you’re a lucky sperm from Berkshire County.
She’s a real social justice warrior too. When dumb white people tell her to get out of the way because they’re trying to go somewhere, she reminds them that it’s selfish to want to get places because some guy in Tulsa got shot by the cops:
And the only way to fix it is if a white hippie in the middle of nowhere blocks the 100 other people who tried to use that road that day.
And don’t you dare try to bring up the statistical fact that black people kill black people at an alarmingly hire rate than white police officers do, because that’s racist!!
“The worst enemy of black people is white people.” That might be the whitest thing I’ve ever heard. White people never run out of stupid and hilarious things to say. Like this:
This is a woman who started waking up two years ago (after she realized that black lives matter) and hated what she saw because she is part of a “shameful group in the United States”:
Can’t make this stuff up.
The best part about this is that the killing of Terrence Crutcher is the very definition of justice. Officer Betty Shelby shot him. After watching the tape the district attorney in Tulsa determined that there was probable cause for an arrest and she was charged with manslaughter, proving that even cops are not above the law. She will receive a fair trial and by judged by a jury of and Terrence Crutcher’s peers. If there is enough evidence to convict her of manslaughter than she will be found guilty and sentenced appropriately. If the state does not provide enough evidence beyond a reasonable doubt than a jury will find him not guilty. Either way justice will be served. The same justice that idiots like this pretend doesn’t exist in this country. But it does. They’re just looking for a reason to protest and give themselves SJW points in the meantime.
