When Jillian Rodriguez sees her two children running in the park or chasing each other around their apartment, it always makes her smile, but also breaks her heart. “It’s hard to see them and not be able to run after them or play with them on the playground. I’m a mom in my 20s and I can’t even bend down to pick things up for them sometimes,” said Rodriguez.

It was after 1 a.m. April 5, 2015, when when Rodriguez and her longtime boyfriend Johnathan “Blaksmif” Fournier became the victims of a shooting at the Paramount Theater, formerly the Hippodrome nightclub. Rodriguez suffered severe nerve damage and now has complex regional pain syndrome. Before the shooting, both worked day jobs while raising a young family and pursuing music careers — she is a singer, he is a hip-hop artist. The couple had been excited about going out for a change. The shooting happened after the concert as they were leaving the venue. A gunman entered the lobby and started shooting. The target of the shooting just happened to be standing near the couple. They did not know him or the shooter. The shooter has never been identified or charged.

“When I heard the shots I jumped in front of her, but the bullets grazed me and went through her legs,” Fournier said. “It all happened very fast.”

So just to review so far. Dad is a rapper and Mom was pursuing a career as a singer. Instead of being home with their kids they’re out at a club known for gang activity, and they just so happen to get shot accidentally because they’re standing next to the person who was supposed to get shot? Sounds legit so far.

Rodriguez was hit multiple times in both legs. She does not talk much about what happened. She has post-traumatic stress disorder and often tries to forget that this one night changed her life irreparably. “I have flashbacks. It has affected every aspect of my life,” she said. She hates having a limp when she walks and that she can no longer be in large crowds or on a stage, which has set back her singing career goals.

At the time she was working at Staples, doing freelance graphic design and directing music videos. A few years before, she said, she had been signed to a recording label and had a hit song in Europe. She wiped away tears as she talked about her music dreams.

Oh right, the shooting is what set back her musical career. Not the fact that she’s some slamtoast who works at Staples. I have a question that Masslive didn’t bother asking – what record label were you signed to, and for how much money? Was there a provision in the contract that you’d lose the deal if you got shot? Because plenty of musicians get shot and it actually helps their career. And please, tell me more about this song that was a “hit song in Europe.” What qualifies as a “hit?” And why was an American song popular in Europe but not America? Excellent jounalisming going on here as usual.

“I love Beyonce’s presence and Rihanna’s artistry and Lady Gaga, she is like me in another body, I identify so much with who she is as an artist and as a person,” she said. “It has been hard as the industry changes to see all of the advances in technology and digital music. I feel like I’ve been left behind and it hurts when I see others doing the things I dreamed of doing.”

Right. It’s the “advances in technology” that have left you behind. Not the fact that you’re some chick from Springfield with no talent who “identifies” with Lady Gaga.

Fournier, a rapper whose biggest influence is Jay-Z, said the shooting put both their careers on hold, but it has not stopped them. A few months ago they decided to get back into the game and produced a Christmas album, “’Tis the Season.” Rodriguez is featured on the album, but she said it was her boyfriend who put his heart into the writing, rapping and producing of all the tracks. The album was packaged and sold and made $1,000. The couple decided to give $500 to an organization that helped them after the shooting, CHD.

“We knew we wanted to give back and we thought why not give back to an organization that means something to us?” Fournier said.

Whoa!! They made $1,000 off an album? Big time!! What kind of stuff does “Blaksmif” rap about anyway? Here’s a hit song entitled, “Fuck the Police.”

So original!! I’ve never heard that expression before. Shocking that a guy who makes music called “Fuck the Police” would have a baby momma who got shot in close proximity at a crowded club, but yet it remains unsolved. Almost like he’s the kind of guy who refuses to cooperate with the police.

Sarno said police are currently reviewing footage from several security cameras and he is hopeful that an arrest will be forthcoming based on the evidence. He was, however, disheartened to hear from officers that the victims weren’t cooperating. “They are not cooperating as of the last update I received from the police,” Sarno said. “But there were hundreds of people down there and presumably someone saw something. They need to step forward and call the police with any information.”

And Masslive wants you to feel bad for these loving parents who abandoned their kids to play gangsta gangsta for the night and then refused to cooperate with the police when they were “accidentally” shot. Who were they there to see anyway?

During the shooting, a hip-hop show, specifically the Dipset “Pledge of Allegiance” Reunion Tour, was taking place inside. Most notably, rapper Cam’ron was billed as performing, along with Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, Freekey Zekey, Chris Webby and Funk Master Flex. Tickets were sold at a variety of barber shops and clothing stores in Springfield as well as Hartford. Online tickets sold around the $50 mark and several hundred may have been sold.

Juelz Santana and Cam’ron. LOL. I remember those guys. They pretty much only rapped about shooting people in every song they ever published. What are the odds a concert they put on in Springfield where tickets were exclusively sold at Springfield and Hartford barber shops would attract people with guns? Especially from a guy whose music glorifies semiautomatic weapons, which almost definitely are not legally registered.

They did give $500 to CDH, but then they ran to Masslive about it and got a full article about his rap album. In other words, this was a really cheap way to get a commercial for his music that only him and his homies have ever paid for.

“Fuck the Police” got a whopping 794 views since 2012, so obviously Blaksmif’s rap career is exploding in leaps and bounds. That’s actually double the amount of views that “Tis the Season” got, which this entire stupid article was based off of. Remember, according to Masslive this was a Christmas album.

That’s a hoodbooger Christmas if I’ve ever seen one.

Excessive use of Henny totally isn’t a cliche at this point either.

And no bootleg rap video would be complete without a random fat guy wearing chains pretending to be talking on the phone.

Don’t let the lack of views or notoriety fool you though – he got mad groupies with signs.

I guess I’m supposed to feel bad for these people or something?

After the shooting the couple also lost their housing when a pipe burst in their apartment and caused so much water damage it became unlivable. And with the trauma and injuries she suffered, Rodriguez was not able to go back to her job at Staples, which required being on her feet all day and bending over to lift boxes.

“No one was handing anything out to us. You have to be very self-motivated and I knew I needed housing for my children,” Rodriguez said.

Translation – she’s lazy and refused to get a job because it’s easier to use her two crotch fruits as welfare magnets. She sure doesn’t seem to have a problem standing when she’s going out to the clubs and hanging around the same kind of people who shot her four years ago.

These guys look like they totally are NOT the kind of people that attract gun violence.

In fairness, they seem to do a lot of sitting at the club.

The struggle was real….

She turned to CHD, which among other things provides housing and homelessness services. “I had this caseworker named Sharifa, shout out to her because she was amazing,” Rodriguez said, referring to CHD employee Sharifa Forbes. Forbes found them a family shelter, but it would only take Rodriguez and the children. They stayed there about six months. Fournier stayed behind repairing the damaged apartment and gathering enough money to get the family permanent housing.

“I have been doing drywall since I was a kid with my dad, so I was trying to fix the place up. It was very hard to be apart from them every day,” said Fournier.

While at the shelter Rodriguez tried to adjust to her new reality. It took her months to learn to walk again. The physical pain can be unbearable at times.

“There is not much the doctors can do for me. They just give me pain medication, but that doesn’t always help and I don’t want to depend on pain meds my whole life,” she said. “Thing is that there are no services for people like me. I’m not a veteran, I’m not a criminal. I’m a person who went to a concert and got shot and there is nothing for me. There is no one to share my experience with.”

I know girl, it’s hard to find a “I got shot by a hoodbooger who was going for my manz but missed me and hit me instead, but we know who it was and aren’t cooperating with the cops because fuck the po-lease” support group.

The couple continues to live in Springfield and raise their two children, Skylar, 7, and Dakota, 5. They are attentive, loving parents who fill their small apartment with books and activities. The kids are active and playful, but approach their mother gently to give her a hug or a kiss.

It’s just amazing that Masslive would print something like this glorifying a woman who refuses to get a job and a rapper who refuses to cooperate with the police so they can get promo for his shitty rap album. This is what “real news” looks like from MassLive. Sad.
