Update on the Lynn coffeeshop whose manager vowed to never host “coffee with a cop” because cops are murderers who shouldn’t be “humanized,” only to be fired by her own mother for destroying the business…….
Source: Less than a week after controversial comments about police from the daughter of a Central Square coffee shop owner went viral, the one-year-old shop is closing.
“I’ve lost my business and I’ve lost my daughter … I don’t know how this story just keeps building, but I need people to leave me alone,” said Kato Mele, owner of the White Rose Coffeehouse. “I’m closing my business so I can stop being harassed.”
The final straw came last night, she said, when she arrived home to find a TV crew in her driveway. Last weekend, Sophie CK, Mele’s 23-year-old daughter, posted on her personal Facebook page that she would never host a “Coffee with a Cop” event at her family’s establishment. Her posting ignited a debate that got ugly when Sophie called police bullies and racist killers. The response was swift by others who defended police and said the shop should be boycotted. Mele apologized for Sophie’s remarks, fired her, and invited police to her shop on Monday to make amends. But the police did not show, and the usual morning crowd never materialized either. By Tuesday night, Mele had had enough.
“This is completely out of control,” she said. “I just want to be left alone.”
I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t see this one coming. I figured these people were fighters. I figured they’d victimize themselves and get a bunch of pity business from north shore SJWs. Instead they’re just throwing up the white flag and abandoning ship.
I’m kind of torn on this one. On the one hand I do somewhat feel bad for this woman because her business closed because we exposed her idiot daughter on a blog. On the other hand, if you’re willing to just give up your business like this then it wasn’t much of a business in the first place. Obviously this woman has other income streams and she can afford to just not make money for a while here. Plus, what kind of coffeeshop isn’t open on the weekends? Doesn’t seem like a business that was built to last, especially when they hired a manager who does stuff like this:

I really feel bad for the business owner and people are cruel and if you dont have the people why bother she is right to close. Tjere is no fight left when your regulars dont show up. All because she has a apoiled daughter that runs her mouth about her beliefs. Well the mother fired her isnt that enough. Dont make her suffer for her daughters actions. The police should have showed up out of reapect for the mom and pop coffee shop. Showing society that we dont punish one person for another ones actions. As far as her daughter, she should never be allowed in that business again. I get that you cannot control your adult childs action. Firing her was a start but stop helping her if you are she needs to learn a hard life lesson about respect if she does not respect our law enforcement i can gaurentee you that she doesnt respect her parents either.
really missing the construction and tradesmen market with those hours generally the smaller shops serve coffee that has actual caffeine in it. oh well

Unfortunately, with the closing of the shop, there is no real learning taking place by the owner / manager. The only thing they learned was not to poke the turtle.
They did not learn how to grow a business, how to recover from a setback, how to rebuild trust once its broken, how to foster relationships between differing viewpoints. All of which, amazingly, a coffee shop is an ideal setting for.
There are (possibly) other employees that now have no job. There is another empty storefront, not paying business taxes, another shiner on the eye of Lynn…

These dumb shits don’t understand that politics and business do not mix well, you don’t support any candidate over the other when you run any kind of food establishment, she wasn’t smart enough to tell her daughter this, And her daughter learning this way of thinking was from her extremely left leaning mother. Her choice in businesses are a dime a dozen anyway, and since Starbucks took over that market, no good shops have been able to stay in business for more than a couple years.
Normally I am one to be out there bashing the minds of SJWs and intolerant lefty (and righty) nutbags … but in this case I kinda do feel bad. While I agree with the comment that the SJWs would be throwing a celebratory party if the roles were reversed, I would also like to think we are better than that. After all, how can we sit here and condemn them for that behavior if we ourselves are doing it? The old adage “If they can do it so can I do” doesn’t work in this case because that’s one of the biggest reasons we trash them every chance we get it…
So what to make of this? Well, I honestly would feel bad for any business that is forced to close its’ doors for the actions of an employee, family or otherwise, especially when the ownership has tried to rectify the situation. I think the response to the issue says more than the actual issue does. A simple apology is not sufficient, but firing your own daughter and inviting the folks she alienated back personally is.
BUT, the turtle has a point… it would seem her business model wasn’t superb to begin with; 8-3 is a 7 hour day and closed on weekends? It would seem you geared yourself for the morning rush and lunch breaks of the working folks … for a coffeeshop maybe that is a good mantra, I don’t own one nor do I visit one so I couldn’t say… but it seems to me running a business on 35 hours a week just won’t cut it; especially when you cut out Sat/Sun mornings … you are missing all the folks going out to do errands, the church goers and old folks who like Sunday morning breakfast …
