WCVBA photo of a police officer sitting in his cruiser is raising a lot of questions. The photo shows a Reading police officer with one hand on the wheel while the other hand holds a mobile device. The officer is looking down at the device and raises questions about if the officer was texting. The woman who took the photo claims she was on the passenger side and when she saw the officer in Reading Square, driving at about 25 mph.

Reading Police Chief Mark Segalla said he is not jumping to conclusions. “If he was driving, it’s something we take very serious,” Segalla said. “Until we have all the facts, we don’t want to make any determination as to exactly what was going on.”

Reading police said the photo was only sent to the media, and the person who sent the photo did not contact them. Police said the officer involved will be questioned and if warranted, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

So let me get this straight. Some busy body in Reading saw what she thought looked like a cop texting while driving. So she took a picture of it, and instead of reporting it to her superiors she sent it to WCVB? Yea, she doesn’t have an agenda or anything.

First of all, how do we know that the cop wasn’t parked? We are going off a woman named Gerry Sullivan, who posted this picture on her Facebook page and claimed the car was moving 25 mph. So why didn’t she take a video then? I see a stationary vehicle and a cop looking at something in his right hand. That’s about it.

Secondly, who gives a shit? Cops are always touching the computers in front of them to run license plates and shit like that. Why does anyone care if this guy was using a cell phone? Did he get in an accident? Was he all over the road? Nope. So who gives a shit besides some loser with too much free time on their hand and an obvious anti-cop agenda.

People who complain that cops are doing things that they can’t are the worst kind of people. “That cop was driving way over the speed limit. He was texting on his phone. If I was doing that then I’d get a ticket.” Well guess what? You don’t have to be the first one to respond to every single dangerous and volatile situation in town. They do. Welcome to grown up world where cops get special privileges and can do things normal citizens can’t.

The real joke here is that it’s being reported by the Boston Globe and WCVB. This is what they constitute as news. Some idiot wrote something on Facebook that can’t be proven. Hot takes at five!!!! LOL. This is why people read Turtleboy Sports. Because the mainstream media is a caricature of itself and doesn’t ask any of these relevant questions.

Wow the writer of this article must be a special kind of stupid. Police abusing the power of their shield MUST be reported. Everyone should be diligent in reporting officers who break the law. Often times police appear to be speeding because they can, not because the situation actually warranted excessive speed. In my 34 years observing police, it’s clear most will lie or cheat while a small percentage appears to actually care about their community. We need to end the pension plans and hold our fellow citizens, including these officers accountable.

Cops think they’re above the law. If I could identify the ahole staties that blast by me on 495 doing a buck-ten I’d call WCVB too.

Fact: distracted driving kills and maims. I don’t agree with the photographers method of dealing with the situation, but nobody should be above the law, including the law. Should’ve taken video.

What damn difference does photo or video matter? He’s looking at his phone. That’s enough to bag your or me on the road.

When people bring up how bad it is when the cop is on the phone, I’m reminded of this little viral video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7MAO7McNKE

Driving would of course be loads more dangerous to the public and himself. However, this officer was on duty. Why is he texting? Teachers can’t text during class…Heck they can’t even have their phones ON during school hours. Doctors don’t pull out their phones after sliding on the vinyl gloves. Firefighters don’t charge into burning buildings taking selfies. Bus drivers, DPW workers, trash collectors, etc. don’t constantly have their phones out while on the job, so why is it ok for him? Police privilege? Yes, and he can drive 50 mph down Mill Street whether he is on duty or not because…..he is a COP! Don’t get me wrong…I have the utmost respect for the police, but it bugs me when they are on a detail directing traffic through some mess the city decided to take on, and they are texting or talking on their phones. Good for the person who took the picture!

“Firefighters don’t charge into burning buildings taking selfies”

Don’t be so sure that the fire fighters aren’t taking pictures and posting it on social media. Riding in the truck, on the fire ground, at the scene of an accident, during paid training. There is a reason many fire departments have social media policies because of the Facebook and Instagram postings. I’m old school so that wasn’t my style, it’s common. Also, unlike the cops, they usually do sleep 8 hours a night on the clock and if at the station have a lot of downtime once done housekeeping duties.

Double standards should not be allowed. Sworn to uphold the law, but most feel above it. Do your job and serve and protect the public. You are not special because your car has a siren and you can temporarily detain citizens.

Drive on the MA Pike and the glorified ticket givers all have their head down looking at their phone. Easy way to have the goons raise money for the government. Turtleboy will never crticize any police officer even if they are in the wrong. Eliminate police details and make police do their jobs.

Question: What does this story have anything to do with police details? Answer: None. So why take another shot at the Cops when this issue is an alleged texting while driving which the photo depicted does not draw any conclusive evidence what so ever. Could he have dialing or answering a phone call? No laws against that. Could he be checking the time because hardly anybody wears watches anymore? No law against that either. Would you like a Cop to arrest you without probable cause so why in God’s name do it to them.

Cops look down to answer their radios for a call coming in so they don’t accidently grab the PA speaker mic. Cops look down to grab their riot gear when a call comes in that there is a major civil uproar and they want to get the job done so that they can go home at the end of their shifts and be with their families. I could site a million ways that this anti-cop/cop-hater absolute bullshit is off the charts with this one and I will never stop until our men and women in blue get their respect back. Thanks a lot Obama. You could’ve have talked to us a long time ago about this anti-cop bullshit but you chose to remain silent.

How does she know he was pressing the screen to text and not dial the phone. You can still dial and drive, but not text. That’s why texting while driving tickets are being dismissed. She couldn’t see whether it was a text message or a phone call anymore than the cops can. Not saying texting while driving is right, but the Miss Facebook warrior got this one wrong.

Well as they say, every cloud has a silver lining. And the fact that I was hit by a municipal worker in a county vehicle opens up some deep pockets to go after. It’s going to take a few years, but my lawyer said I will be retiring quite comfortably once this case is settled. I already have over $600k in medical bills so it’s a pretty big case.

Turd Burglestein….I’m sorry for your injuries and you having to go through all this legal crap. Years ago, I was hit by the City Assessor flying into Newton Square rotary from Pleasant Street..slamming into me RIGHT UPON ENTERING, so I had clearly been in the rotary prior to him…. Completely his fault, but the insurance companies decided to say it was 50-50. When I demanded to know why, my insurance company told me, “You can’t fight City Hall.” I should have sued the City, but I assumed where it was so cut and dry as to it being his fault that the city of Worcester would do right by me. HA!!! I had to call Mariano’s office just to get someone from City Hall to return my phone calls regarding being reimbursed for my rental car which they felt they shouldn’t pay since the insurance companies deemed it 50-50. When I demanded, the asshole who finally took the call said, “FINE_______. It’s not going to break the city.” Another reason I’m glad I moved out of the shitty of Worcester.

As someone who was permanently fucked up by a texting and driving asshole, I say fuck your opinion on this. Because some asshole thought what was on his phone was more important than the wellbeing of surrounding motorists, I now have 6 blown out discs in my neck and back plus permanent nerve damage from a 65 mph impact to the rear of my car when I was at a stop light. People who text and drive are fucktards and if you take up for a fucktard, well you’re just being fucktarded. You’re completely wrong on this one. Yeah he was going 25 this time, but if he texts at 25 he’ll damn sure do it at 65.

So 3 surgeries later, a spinal stimulator device, an addiction to painkillers because I have chronic pain, and I have 1/10 function on my left side and have to walk with a cane. I’ll never have a normal life again, but yeah…it’s cool if cops text and drive because somehow they’re just so superior.

They still ticket people for it. So no she’s not a loser. She’s a person who isn’t ok with letting the double standard stand. Jeez, just because you have a friend going into office in Worcester doesn’t mean you have to jerk off the entire police force. They are people just like we are. They should be held to an even higher standard than the public. You know… because they are enforcing the laws. @Tudor Turtle… they were even ticketing people sitting at red lights.

So why not just contact his superior? Why did she go directly to a news outlet? Does that not scream ” uptight bitch” to you? If she was concerned about the safety of the roads, she would have written a well mannered letter expressing this, not jump the gun and go right to the news.

You say cops should be held to a higher standard, and that I agree with. However, they are also human beings and make mistakes, too.

Seems to me you are more concerned with always disagreeing with every article on this blog than truly being concerned for humanity. A true adult would be able to set aside their distaste for another person and move on, you clearly aren’t capable.

I’m going on the line and say that he was parked. If he was driving, the white picket fence, the bushes, and the black and gold sign would be distorted.
