Brockton Enterprise: With 10 seconds left in the third quarter, the East Bridgewater girls basketball team raced down the court with the ball. The clock ticked down. Nine …eight … seven. One of the Viking players drove to the hoop, then kicked to a teammate outside the 3-point line.

Four … three … two.

The Viking shot went up from beyond the arc, then swished through the net as the buzzer sounded. The crowd cheered heartily, but the three points weren’t for the lead. The score wasn’t close at all. After three quarters, East Bridgewater led 70-4. The Vikings were relentless from start to finish in their Division 3 South Sectional opener against Madison Park — pressing, shooting and sprinting their way to a lopsided 93-7 victory Wednesday at East Bridgewater High School. The score left some in the stands shaking their heads, particularly as the Vikings continued their full-court press into the third quarter, then kept several starters on the court in the final few minutes.

“Madison Park is waving the white flag,” declared the play-by-play announcer on East Bridgewater Community Access Media.

Following the game, an East Bridgewater school official asked for the score not to be reported in an Enterprise media source. East Bridgewater Superintendent Elizabeth Legault called the game “an unfortunate situation.”

“This is not a reflection of our student body or our athletic program,” she said Thursday.

Legault said athletic director Patrick Leonard did speak with coach Andrew MacDonald, as well as the athletic director at Madison Park and the MIAA, but did not share further details. The East Bridgewater girls, seeded fifth in the Division 3 South Sectional tournament, will play Friday at fourth-seeded Archbishop Williams at 6:30 p.m. Madison Park, which had a 10-10 record in the regular season, was seeded 12th. Officials at the Roxbury vocational high school gave no comment to The Enterprise about the game.

“It was an unfortunate situation,” Legault said. “The two teams were ready and excited for playoffs, and the two schools were not matched up as well as they should be it seemed.”

East Bridgewater opened up a 24-0 lead after one quarter and led 48-4 at halftime. The team left the starters on the court, continued to shoot and steal until the final buzzer as the Lady Cardinals became noticeably disheartened and frustrated as the game continued.

“I’m happy we’re in the tournament,” Legault said. “But of course no one likes that type of score. I’m hoping this game will bring a thoughtful reflection from our program leaders.”

Oh for fuck’s sake. No one likes that type of score? Hey superintendent Legault, I’ll tell you what no one likes – pinstripe pantsuits.

No. Just no. Never again. Please.

I cannot believe this is even an issue. It’s the playoffs. East Bridgewater isn’t even the top team. Their seeded fifth. How bad were the 10 teams Madison Park beat to get to this tournament in the first place, and how many points would they lose by to the top seeded team? Maybe they should try playing a real schedule with real teams so they don’t get murdered by the backups next year.

The Enterprise also forgot to report one of the most important aspects of this story – East Bridgewater only dressed eight girls. They couldn’t even put in the backups. Everyone plays on this team anyway. What were they supposed to do? Not score? Aimlessly dribble around? Let Madison Park score?

Fuck that. I don’t care what the score is, if you have the opportunity to score more, you take it. If Madison Park is gonna treat the game like a practice then you work on your plays, your defense, etc, to get ready and better for the next game. You don’t get better by dribbling around in order to preserve the feelz of your opponents.

“This is not a reflection of our student body or our athletic program.”

What’s not a reflection? That your kids are fucking AWESOME? That they’re dominant and amazing at their craft? That they finished the game with the same energy they began it with?

So we did a little background research on Elizabeth Legeault and just like 99% of these hacks, she’s got some skeletons in her closet…..

She was the principal of the flaming pile of junkbox poo known as Central Fall High School. It didn’t end well:

She was placed on leave in October 2010 and later reprimanded for alleged incidents that included improperly reassigning staff and leaving special needs student without coverage, helping teachers to falsely report sick time, discussing a troubled student’s situation with police and failing to conduct fire drills properly, according to a local newspaper account.

Then in typical carpetbagging style she took a job in the upstate New York town of Whitehall (population 4,700), which somehow has it’s own school district. And just like in East Bridgewater, Whitehall had a good sportball team – the football squad. But after clinching their division Superintendent Legault led a movement to have the coach fired………for swearing. Not even shitting you – the coach was fired because he swore:

In October, a storm of controversy followed the school board’s abrupt firing of football coach Justin Culligan, reportedly for swearing. Internal emails obtained by The Post-Star found there was a disagreement over whether Culligan’s behavior merited termination.

Except the coach was really well liked and taught at the high school. So how was he good enough to teach, but not good enough to coah? And at a town meeting Legault began by telling the angry townsfolk that only six of them would be allowed to speak. That didn’t go over so well:

This woman right here is Turtleboy’s spirit animal:

Think that lady would want East Bridgewater to stop scoring uncontested layups? Fuck no. She’d be pissed they didn’t score 100.

It’s clear from her comments that the world of sportball is completely foreign to Superintendent Legault, and that her primary concern is making sure the other team’s feelings are not hurt when they visit East Bridgewater:

“It was an unfortunate situation,” Legault said. “The two teams were ready and excited for playoffs, and the two schools were not matched up as well as they should be it seemed.”

“I’m happy we’re in the tournament,” Legault said. “But of course no one likes that type of score. I’m hoping this game will bring a thoughtful reflection from our program leaders.”

Ya know who says something like that? Someone who doesn’t really care about winning. Or sports in general.

No one likes that type of score? If I played for East Bridgewater I’d like it plenty. Obviously the losing team isn’t fond of it. But instead of treating them like helpless charity cases who need to have the fifth seeded team grant mercy on them, how bout they just get better for next year? Because the only thing worse than losing 93-7 is having a bunch of people who claim to be your defenders, complain that you’re so bad that the other team should’ve taken it easier on you. In the playoffs.

So yea, this pinstriped poonstachio superintendent is just the latest in a long line of school administrators who jump from district to district, burning bridges left and right. And she’s faulting her kids for being so good that they hurt the feelings of the losing team.

You guys are all mentally retarded if you think this is bad sportsmanship. You’re doing a dis service yo your team if you tell them to take it easy or relax. Arnt we suppose to teach our kids to go 100% on everything they do. Don’t get me wrong Coach Macdonald is a midget who has small man syndrome clearly but expecially in a playoff game you can’t tell the girls to take it easy.

Lady Vikings fall to Archies in the 2nd round of the MIAA D3 south tournament. Great season ladies. Keep your heads held high!!!!
Found this on the East Bridgewater athletics tweeter page. Don’t know what the final was but the lady Vikings are out of the playoffs. Anyone know who the Archies are?

The “Archies” are the Archbishop Williams Bishops – the private school that recruits it’s players – puts an all-star team on the floor – and is somehow still allowed to complete in Division 3 against small schools fielding teams from just their own town.
Archies has won the last 5 South Sectional titles. In fact, in the last 15 years, there has only been 1 public school winner in the D3 South. EB went as far as they, or any public school, can go.

I think this turtle boy writer is way off base with this one. Very early on this game had been decided. Certainly by the end of the third quarter East Bridgewater should have known that. Sportsmanship should have taken over. If you only have 8 players, get those last three into the game. Run the shot clock down. If you’re pressing, go man to man (girl’s basketball, I know) don’t pick up your player until past half court.
East Bridgewater, be careful there is an opponent out there that will remember this and may do it to you some day.

Agreed.  Cannot wait for them to get sent off the court next game in tears after being embarrassed.

Pressing up 20 is embarrassing Nevermind up 49 or 80.

Looks like another teacher/coach that never played a sport

Cosch Boone and others nailed it as well. seems TB is reaching for stories like the rest of MSM. Clean it up. P

Sounds like Madison Park wasn’t the only ones who couldn’t score on the girls of East Bridgewater that night.
Super Legault is always welcome to come to our place and ride the sybian while we watch the WNBA!!

I’ve covered a bunch of girls basketball games in NC, and if the score gets unseemly (I’ve seen 40-2 at halftime), the officials ask the coaches if they agree to switching to a running clock (clock doesn’t stop for fouls, out of bounds, etc.) and that limits the extent of the blowout. I’ve never seen either coach say “No” to the request.

(Has Legault and Berman ever been seen together?)

The Superintendent sucks, that I can agree with.

But it seems you have as much knowledge about sports as Shelly Berman does.

No good coach would ever run a score up like that at ANY level of sports. But apparently you never played any sports either.

There are many other options when the game is out of hand like that.

Perhaps apples and oranges here, but if it’s ok to run the score up because “that is life”, why is it not ok to use friends or political connections to advance?  That too is life. It has been going on for as long as Sports has been played.

Cmon guys, stick to one agenda here.

PS.  So glad a bunch of white kids destroyed Madison!!

By halftime the coach should have instructed the team to only dribble and shoot left handed. That score is a disgrace.

I don’t agree with her sports perspective, but Liz is an amazing Superintendent and has made our schools so much better. She is well loved, present all the time and loves the students and teachers. We are so lucky to have her.

I was going to say a similar thing.
Once my son soccer team would be up by 4/5 goals to 0 their coach would tell the team to change the game to possession only. (this is a young soccer team u13) it teaches them good sportsmanship, and those possession drills do help them later in different games)

OK, elephant in the room: Madison Park is a minority school. Scouts scour that neighborhood for talent to send to college. Most kids there could keep up with college talent (albeit not in hockey). Were these kids afraid of being called thugs? Something here doesn’t add up.

    • Coach Boone
      March 4, 2018 at 12:15 pm

What the fuck are you talking about? You sound like the same moron that said kids around here where Bulls hats to identify with Chicago gangs.

What scouts are scouring the neighborhood? Did you just watch Blue Chips? You think Nick Nolte is up Washington Park looking at the street ballers to send to college?

You’re a fucking tool trying to sound like you know something. Minorities are scouted the same as every other kid in this Country. Play well enough in High School, get some exposure in newspaper, Coach and AD make some calls and people start paying attention. Take Donnaizha Fountain for example, she played well and got recruited like any other person.

Please just do not try to pass yourself off as knowledgeable with crazy theories on minority scouting. Jesus Christ.

I’m assuming they don’t care. Years ago it might be tougher to find out, but a name/town/newspaper search should bring up this info pretty quick. The Whitehall school meeting is out there on the net. You can judge for yourself how she carried herself. There should be a public record on the meeting. I would thinks names of speakers should be be there. Look up the names online, make a couple of phone calls, etc….
