SB Nation just released their list of the best to worst of the 67 games played in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. Somehow UMass’ shellacking to Tennessee finished ahead of ten other games:
Emasculating. Don’t think I’ll ever truly be over this. They simply MUST make the NCAA Tournament again next year. If they go back to being a .500 team and fall deeper into irrelevance, then this season meant jack shit. It would mean that Chaz Williams was the only thing that mattered and without him they can’t win.
At least if they had been competitive in this game we could look back on it and think about the what ifs. But in this game there were no what ifs. It was a demoralizing ass beating in every sense of the word. These guys need to be thinking about this all summer. Look at some of the games they had ranked ahead of us:
I didn’t even remember Delaware being in this tournament. Yet apparently they put up a better fight than we did, against a much better team than we played.
Yup, a 16 seed put up a better fight than us. Actually a MUCH better fight than us. And they got to win a playoff game. How is that possible? The only thing worse than a 16 seed putting up a better fight than UMass, is TWO 16 seeds putting up a better fight than UMass:
Wait, scratch that. Make it THREE 16 seeds that put up a better fight…
And thank God we didn’t have to face the mighty powerhouse of Eastern Kentucky…
I completely agree with their Top 5 picks. This one still makes me queazy…
This game was insane…
And of course there was Aaron Harrison…
More Aaron Harrison….
And easily the best game of the tournament…
I think this one was under seeded, and probably should’ve been 6th…
Same goes for this one….
This one….
And of course I will never, ever get over this one…
So yea, UMass was a big downer. But hey, it could be worse. We could’ve been Patriot League Champion, American:
Cant wait for next season though. Go U!!!
