Everyone’s been buzzing about Columbia, South Carolina Police Officer Michael Hager’s graphic shooting of an unarmed African-American man named Walter Scott. If you haven’t seen the video yet, here it is:
It’s pretty disturbing and there’s no defending it. The cop is a criminal and has justifiably been arrested for murder. Because that’s what happened in that video. Cold-blooded murder. He’s hiding behind the “I feared for my life” defense too, which basically makes it harder for any cop going forward who actually DOES fear for their life, to defend themselves. This is the point when Walter Scott started running:
As you can see the police officer is reaching for his gun as the suspect runs in the other direction. He clearly is not in ANY sort of danger, nor can danger be anticipated since the man is unarmed and running in a wide open area. He has made a conscious choice not to give chase, not to radio for backup, not to yell “hands up, don’t run.” Instead he chose to take out his gun and shoot him because it was easier. The guy is lazy and he’s a disgrace to the uniform.
Oh yea, and he probably should pay attention to the news too. Because in case he didn’t get the memo, race relations between the white police officers and people of color aren’t exactly hunky-dory. That’s what makes this even worse. This slug rake KNEW that he should be on guard for situations like this and still murdered this guy in cold blood in broad daylight.
Oh yea, and his whole, “I was scared” routine proves that he’s a gutless naniburger. If you’re genuinely scared for your life because an unarmed man is running AWAY from you in a wide open area, then you obviously don’t have the minerals to be a cop. Police officers are supposed to be brave and selfless. And this idiot is scared of someone running away from him? He’s basically admitting to the world that he’s a big p-bag. Get out of my face with that jive.
And obviously this is nothing like what happened in Ferguson. According to Darren Wilson, Mike Brown was coming TOWARDS him. This is the exact opposite scenario. The fact that this idiot just gave the loudmouths more ammunition for protests makes me despise him even more.
Some people are pointing out that the suspect shouldn’t have been running from the cops in the first place. I don’t disagree with that. It doesn’t mean his punishment should be death though. Nevertheless, the common thread between all these police shootings in the news is that people aren’t doing what the police tell them to do. Like, what planet am I on where following police orders is some sort of option? Did this guy deserve to die? Of course not. Were there things he could do to avoid it? Absolutely.
This incident once again highlights how good the Worcester Police are. This would NEVER happen in Worcester. Back in October police officer Justin Benes refused to use deadly force against a dangerous criminal with a gun, even though he would’ve been justified in doing so. Because our police aren’t morons like this idiot.
That’s why it pisses me off when the protesters turn this into a whole thing about the Worcester Police being racist. Why? Because they’re in the same line of work as this dooshnozzle? Are all teachers child molesters because a handful of them have diddled kids? Are all politicians criminals because some of them have accepted bribes? No. Worcester isn’t South Carolina, so let’s just all agree that this was the work of a lone, irresponsible former police officer, and not some sort of proof that police everywhere are murderers with badges.
