MassliveRacist and homophobic videos sent on Snapchat by a South Hadley High School underclassman sparked anger and outrage among students Tuesday, prompting administrators to hold the videos’ creator in an office and some of her classmates to demand disciplinary action against her. In the videos recorded by another student, the student insults black and LGBTQ people while speaking in front of an American flag background.

“Black lives don’t matter, they should be out there picking my cotton, and they should do my [expletive] work for me,” she said in one video.

“I think I’m living pretty good. Like, all my friends are white, none of them are gay and we drink on the weekends, we all Juul [a nicotine vape device,] it’s actually a pretty good life,” she said in another. “I’m not a piece of s—. And any queer, any black person, that’s a piece of s— because black people literally look like s—.”

On Tuesday, administrators confirmed they were dealing with a racial incident at the school, but said they could not comment on the specifics of the matter.

“It was an incident that happened and did not happen on South Hadley High School grounds and was not directed at a South Hadley High School student,” Vice Principal Patrick Lemiuex said. “That behavior is not tolerated at South Hadley High School and is being dealt with appropriately.”

On Wednesday morning, South Hadley Public Schools released a notification to all the school communities in the district addressing the controversy and stating that counseling services are available for students.

“South Hadley Public Schools is aware of the inappropriate and discriminatory Snapchat videos that were posted by a student. While these occurred off school grounds, this school system does not tolerate behavior of this type and plans to take all actions within its authority to address this matter to include working collaboratively with the South Hadley Police Department,” the school district said. “Rest assured we are taking this incident very seriously and will use this as an educational opportunity to initiate conversations about respecting individual differences and promoting equality and respectful treatment for all.”

Students interviewed by MassLive said the videos had begun to circulate on social media and via phone screens in school hallways by Monday. On Tuesday, word of the videos and outrage over their contents had spread throughout the school, said South Hadley High School senior Amirah Sheehan-Miles.

“What she said affected a lot of people in our school. Today in all of my classes I heard people talking about it,” Sheehan-Miles said in an interview. “Everyone was really mad about it.”

Miles and two other students who did not wish to be identified said the student who posted the videos was held in an office for part of the day by Lemieux. Some students, angry at the bigotry contained in the videos, said they wanted to verbally confront or physically fight her, Miles and the two other students said.

“Every time the vice principal left he had to leave a teacher with her to make sure she didn’t leave and people didn’t get in there to say stuff to her,” Sheehan-Miles said.

By the end of the day the underclassman had left the office to give a public apology to her class, three students said. Lemiuex also held one-on-one conversations with some concerned students to address their concerns, according to two students who met with him.

Oh look, a high school sophomore doing something stupid. This is news now.

This is just a misguided, stupid teenager who clearly doesn’t understand the implications of her moronic decisions. Everything she said is disgusting, but it’s protected speech nonetheless. This is how freedom works. She never said it in school, so she can’t be suspended for that. You can socially ostracize her all you want, but you can’t hit her and the school can’t punish her. In a free society we have no choice but to accept the fact that people will say dumb shit like this.

Naturally people who don’t understand how the constitution works are all…..”But, but, but….hate speech!!”

But guess what? According to the Supreme Court, there is no such thing as hate speech, and just because you find something offensive doesn’t mean it can be censored:

From today’s opinion by Justice Samuel Alito (for four justices) in Matal v. Tam, the “Slants” case:

[The idea that the government may restrict] speech expressing ideas that offend … strikes at the heart of the First Amendment. Speech that demeans on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, disability, or any other similar ground is hateful; but the proudest boast of our free speech jurisprudence is that we protect the freedom to express “the thought that we hate.”

Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote separately, also for four justices, but on this point the opinions agreed:

A law found to discriminate based on viewpoint is an “egregious form of content discrimination,” which is “presumptively unconstitutional.” … A law that can be directed against speech found offensive to some portion of the public can be turned against minority and dissenting views to the detriment of all. The First Amendment does not entrust that power to the government’s benevolence. Instead, our reliance must be on the substantial safeguards of free and open discussion in a democratic society.

And the justices made clear that speech that some view as racially offensive is protected not just against outright prohibition but also against lesser restrictions.

And trust me, everyone on the Supreme Court is a million times smarter than everyone who is outraged about this.

I have no idea the home this girl comes from, so I’m not going to cast judgement on her parents. She could be raised right and this is her idiotic way of rebelling. But what I do know is this – you’re not going to change hearts and minds by threatening her. You need to educate this girl about everything that is inherently wrong with what she said, and how social media will destroy your life if you do something like this. You can come back from this at 15. You can’t if you’re 19.

Keep in mind that South Hadley is the same high school where a student killed herself after excessive bullying. Everyone’s looking to the administration to take action against this girl, but my question is, what are they doing to ease the tensions and anger towards the girl? They had to keep her quarantined in an office all day. Everyone in school hates her. Would it surprise anyone if she was thinking suicidal thoughts right now? Because make no doubt about it – there is no bigger group of bullies than social justice warriors on social media. And they feel emboldened because of the belief that they are fighting for racial justice. When that happens they are capable of saying and doing anything.

This girl should have to do more than just issue a bullshit apology that no is buying if she wants to avoid being a social pariah for the next 3 years. The school should be making an effort to almost assign her a token minority friend to walk around with all day. Have her get to know her or him on a personal level. Go eat dinner at their house. Gain a new perspective. This is how you destroy racism – you teach racist people that we are all human beings despite the color of our skin.

Instead we get this:

This is what happens when the love trumps hate crowd is confronted with “hate speech.” The respond with more “hate speech”:

A lot of people on Twitter want us to shame and destroy this girl.

Newsflash – she’s already done that to herself. And no, it’s not even remotely close to being the same thing as that racist girl from Holyoke who delivered the racist poem at a school assembly:

Here’s a very, very simple concept that stupid people can’t seem to understand. Outside of school you can say racist things because the First Amendment protects your speech. Inside of school your First Amendment rights can be restricted. I know, you might not like this. But facts and the Constitution do not care about your feelings.

Here’s the poem the Holyoke girl delivered in front of the school, blaming white people for mass murdering Puerto Ricans, and making fun of the way white women cook:

This was not only allowed at a school assembly, it was endorsed by the Mayor and City Councilor. And any white student who took offense to this was put on a hit list:

This was the most insane part:

On Wednesday morning, South Hadley Public Schools released a notification to all the school communities in the district addressing the controversy and stating that counseling services are available for students.

Counseling? Because some girl made a stupid bigoted video? Oh for fuck’s sake. This is why we have a generation of pussies. Because we have a generation of adults training them to be victims.

So yea, as unpleasant as the South Hadley’s speech was, it’s still free speech and the school cannot censor it unless she does it on school grounds. Don’t like it? Move to Germany or Canada, where the governments have enacted archaic hate speech laws. I promise they’ll never use that power to censor something you have to say. What could possibly go wrong when you start giving the government the power to arbitrarily crush any speech that a mob has deemed as “hate speech?”

She comes from a racist family. What do you expect. Her father has been well known to use the N word .

Wow, South Hadley has turned into such a shithole. I’m so glad that I got out of there years ago. Western Massachusetts is just plain fucked! I feel bad for the Mount Holyoke College students that they have to go to school in this sad excuse for a town.

She’s obviously a loser, but do we really need counselors brought into the school for this?

At least we are constantly reminded how stupid teenagers are. Literally everything they say/do into a phone will end up being seen by thousands via Interwebbies, and they know this, but they still do it. Amazing.

And the school’s grief counseling or whatever the fuck it’s called these days…what a good way to not prepare these kids for the real world.

TBS is a pretty good snapshot of the scum you see out in the wild, except you don’t have to even move. He brings the real world to us. Real world is gross. Deal with it.

So she admits to drinking on the weekends. I have a crazy theory about what she was up to when she posted this. I’d much rather wake up with dicks drawn all over my face in permanent marker (yeah Sully I’m talkin to you!) than have to wake up to the shitstorm that she’s in.

Okay, so Social Justice Warriors hate that Trump spreads hate, but they spread hate and want to hurt her? So, do they not understand how moronic they are. Racism sucks, yes. Being a piece of shit wanting to hurt a girl rather than educate her is also being a piece of shit.

In addition to the fact that this wasn’t done on school property, she made the comments via social media from a house. She wasn’t doing this at some sort of open, public forum in front of a group of people. She wasn’t in the street or sidewalk obstructing traffic. It means you had to go out of your way to watch the video in order to be offended. Stupidity and laziness on full display.

Her last name sounds Italian so she may not even be white herself.
