So last week a girl from Yale posted this on her Facebook page and it quickly became a national story:
Because in 2015 all you have to do is write something on Facebook and it qualifies as legitimate news.
I have no proof of anything, since obviously I wasn’t there. But if you had a gun to my head and everything was on the line, I would say that this never actually happened and so would you. Because in 2015 you’d have to be purposely looking to make yourself the biggest villain in America if you told a group of black students that they couldn’t come into your house because it’s a whites only party. And to get into Yale, you can’t be a complete moron unless your last name is Bush. No one at Yale is dumb enough to do this.
The woman of color who started this whole thing explained what happened:
“He held his hand up to their faces and said, ‘No, we’re only looking for white girls.’”
Yea, sorry, but if you believe that actually happened I have a horse ranch in Nantucket I’d like to sell you.
All it takes is a quick glance through this girl’s Facebook page and you start coming across stuff like this:
As yo can see, this girl is pretty active in campus politics, and she bought into the whole “cops are racist because a white cop in Ferguson defended himself from an aggressive 300 pound criminal.” And anyone who actually believes Michael Brown is some sort of victim obviously isn’t someone who is concerned with the truth, so it’s hard for me to take them at their word.
This has turned into a whole big thing because frats are probably the easiest targets ever for the PC crowd. It’s assumed that they’re automatically filled with rapists and racists. It’s why everyone believed Jackie Coakley’s fake rape story at UVA, and the frat was forced to shut down until they proved that the whole thing was made up. Because when you’re a white guy in a frat in America you are guilty until you prove that you’re innocent. I guess white privilege doesn’t protect you from an assumption of guilt.
The Washington Post interviewed an anonymous Yale freshman who told them that he was turned away from the party as well. According to him an unidentified frat boy said ‘Who the [expletive] do you think you are — you’re clearly gay’” and that he also heard people say “white girls only.”
Yea, that never happened. But this is how news works in 2015. Some anonymous kid told the Washington Post an alarming, outrageous story and it’s automatically true. It gets press, regardless of whether or not the Washington Post verified this kid’s account or looked into what his background is. Because apparently Turtleboy is the only news source with integrity and obsession with the truth.
You’ll notice in her Facebook post that she got turned away because of the ‘white girls only” rule:
Yet she told the Daily Beast that this is not actually what happened:
Githere explained that during her incident, the SAE member “didn’t say to us” that there were too many black girls, but that “we heard one [SAE member] say it to the other,” she said.
Oh I see. So she was never actually told that she couldn’t come in because she was black. She “heard” from someone else that one frat brother say to another frat brother that there were too many black girls in the house. Therefore this game of racism telephone is a fact. Right. She also threw this in there:
“A lot of my memory is blurred because I was drunk.”
Oh OK. So a drunken experience that you can’t really remember from a year ago is worth vilifying a fraternity and making them the international symbol of racism. Makes sense. Then what happened?
The major conflict appeared to occur when a male friend in her group became “so furious” after allegedly overhearing the racist remark. By her account, the friend “was belligerent, and we had to pull him away because we didn’t want to get in a fight.”
So your friend supposedly heard this racist comment and tried to start a fight with a bunch of frat boys after that. Shocking you didn’t end up staying at the party.
Well as it turns out the pledge that was working the door that night at SAE just so happens to be black and he’s the treasurer of the Yale Black Men’s Union. He denies this ever happened.
As it turns out the New Haven police received a noise complaint at 11:15 that night, and the frat had to stop letting people in. If you’ve ever been to a party in college where drunk people are denied entrance to a party, then you know how ugly this can often get. Telling a bunch of drunk 19 year olds that they can’t party in your house is a borderline declaration of war. Naturally then, according to several witnesses, the girl who was denied entrance to the party because she got there 30 minutes too late started yelling,
“‘It’s because I’m black, isn’t it?’”
Therefore that became the de facto reason why. Not because the house was overcrowded and the cops had received a noise complaint. It’s because she’s black. Never mind the fact that the guy at the door was black and so are MULTIPLE brothers in the house. None of that matters. Because racism is the only plausible explanation for anything bad happening to anyone in 2015.
Here’s some of the comments that have quickly become facts on Neema’s Facebook post:
FYI it is common practice at frat parties to ID people at the door. Not because asking for ID is racist, but because a frat can get in a whole world of shit if they let some 15 year teenie bopper get wasted inside their house. The other girl who was recently denied access because it was “whites only” just so happens to not attend Yale. But please, tell me more about how this was a racial decision on the part of the fraternity.
Oh yea, that story definitely sounds believable. Definitely. Lots of Ivy League students in 2015 treat black women like a petting zoo. I see it all the time. Here’s “Timiebi’s” old profile picture:
No prisons. No police. Yea, she doesn’t have a huge agenda or anything like that. Her story should be taken at face value and not questioned.
Yup, I’m sure that’s exactly what happened. Kiki Palmer was minding her own business at Yale when someone came up to her and called her an unspeakable racial slur to her face. Because anecdotes on Facebook are facts in 2015.
Look, Turtleboy isn’t naive enough to think that racism doesn’t still exist in America. But we call out bullshit when we smell it. And if you’re someone who thinks that cops are all racist, Michael Brown was a martyr, and prisons should be emptied, then we can’t just take your unverified version of a story at face value. Don’t worry though, everyone else will. There’s a reason this story has garnered national headlines. Of course you knew that would happen when you posted it, just like the Jase Dillan when she posted her infamous confrontation on Newbury Street with the guy who was “filming her crotch.”
One last thing, if you’re tempted to say something dumb like, “well black have BET but if there was a WET it would be racist,” just stop. Black people in this country have a cultural history that can be traced back to forced segregation. When you do that you create a completely distinct and different subculture and it’s only natural for this to manifest itself in something harmless like BET. Don’t be the guy who brings up BET.
