Daily Mail: A Southern California high school teacher was caught on camera denigrating the intelligence of people serving in the US military. In the videos, which were stealthily recorded in class by a student at El Rancho High in Pico Rivera, California, history teacher Gregory Salcido, 49, can be heard making a variety of unflattering remarks about service people, at one point calling them the ‘lowest of the low.’
The videos went viral after being posted on Facebook by a Connecticut woman claiming to be the anonymous student’s mother’s friend. ‘My friends son was sporting his marine sweater while this liberal douche teacher rants about the military,’ Kimberlie Flauto wrote on Facebook on Friday, while exhorting people to ‘help me make this go viral.’
In one of the clips, Salcido can be heard saying, ‘Think about the people who you know are over there. Your freakin’ stupid Uncle Louie or whatever. They’re dumb s***ts. They’re not like high-level thinkers. They’re not academic people. They’re not intellectual people.’
He then says that overseas service people are ‘the freakin’ lowest of our low. Not morally – I’m not saying they make bad moral decisions – they’re not talented people.’
As he speaks, students can be heard laughing in the background.
It’s unclear why exactly Salcido began spouting off about the military, but the video does capture him expressing disbelief over the fact that the military – with all of it’s technology – can’t control people ‘wearing robes.’ He also disagrees with President Trump and other prior presidents’ claims that the US military is the best military in the world. ‘The data is in, we don’t have a good military,’ Salcido says.
The 17-year-old high school senior who shot the videos, told The OC Register that he never intended for the videos to go viral. He merely showed it to his mother, who then sent it on to her friends. The student, who wished to remain anonymous to avoid retribution, said that his brother and uncles were Marines who fought in Afghanistan, Desert Storm and Vietnam, and that Salcido’s comments were ‘so disrespectful.’
In a message on his personal Facebook page, posted on Friday from New York, Salcido wrote that: ‘I don’t think it’s wise for me to make any specific comments, but I want my friends, family, and students to know we are fine and we respect the rights of free expression for all individuals.’
Salcido has allegedly had previous issues with students. He was placed on paid administrative leave after police received a complaint that he had hit a student in 2012. Before that, in 2010, a parent alleged that Salcido threatened his daughter, insulted other students and parents and made inappropriate comments about race during a summer school class. Salcido denied the claims, but was suspended from teaching until the fall semester started. In addition to being a teacher, Salcido is also a Pico Rivera councilman.
These videos are unreal. You just gotta hear this guy’s tone. It’s unbelievable:
Scary that people like this have access to students. What’s really sad is that he gives all teachers a bad name and fits into a false narrative that this is your average public school teacher. I never had any teachers like this. I knew most of them were probably liberals (except for Mr. Levine, who was never in the mood for your bullshit), but they just wanted to teach me math, science, English, and history. Most teachers just want to do their job and help kids learn.
But just like any other profession some bad apples seep through the cracks. Judging teachers based on the actions of this guy is like judging all cops based on the actions of a few bad ones. Unfortunately this is what it leads to:
Now it will turn into an attack on public schools in general. Especially when people start going through his wide open Facebook page and see stuff like this:
The mere fact that his page is still up despite the fact that millions of people have watched that video speaks to his arrogance. I mean, just look at this douchecanoe:
Be more cocky. You can’t.
Plus, he’s already been suspended and has a past history of making inappropriate racial statements in class. Believe it or not the teacher’s union is not nearly as powerful as you’d be lead to believe. If this guy doesn’t get shitcanned it’s a miracle.
Many former students are not surprised:
And his post from the other day just reeks of someone who is 1,000% sure he’s not gonna lose his job over this:
Newsflash – you don’t have the right to free speech when you’re standing in front of a class full of children. Here’s some of the other things he said:
“You join the military because your parents didn’t love you enough.”
“The parents urge you to join the military to get you out of their ass.”
To the student wearing the Marines shirt – “Don’t you ever bring that military shit into the class. I don’t know why they let military recruiters come into school. They don’t let pimps come into school. Is anyone interested in being a ho?”
He also said some racist shit in there too – “We couldn’t beat the Vietnamese, they’re this freaking big, throwing rice at us.”
He also compares the choice of joining the military to 9/11 victims who had to choose between dying in a fire or jumping from the 100th floor. Then he compares it to choosing to eat cat shit or shit. He says every swear imaginable in class.
You have a right to say all these things because our military protects those rights. But you don’t have a right to be a public school teacher. That’s an honor and a privilege, and one that he is not worthy of.
What pissed me off about the video was the laughing reaction of the students. This guy is clearly the “cool teacher,” which makes it easier for him to brainwash them. They look up to him. They’re basically lemmings.
We all had a teacher like this (just not this extreme). You remember the guy – the young, edgy guy who tried to be your friend. The one who tried to prove to you that he wasn’t like that lame old lady who taught World Civ last year. The one that has the desks shaped like a circle instead of in rows, and has a beanbag in the corner of the room. The ones who let you eat lunch in their room and wear hats in class. Te one with a Che Guevera poster in his class:
The one who calls is students, “white chocolate.”
The one who posts provocatively with teenage girls:
These are the kind of teachers who can manipulate kids the easiest.
The fact of the matter is that the military is a viable option for lots of upstanding individuals, not just people who have run out of options. My college roommate at UMass was my friend from high school. He grew up in a shitty situation but he wanted to go to college. So he joined the National Guard because they paid for him to go to college. He had to leave second semester freshman year to go to boot camp. He went on to serve his country in Afghanistan before eventually finishing his degree for free. Now he’s a suit on Wall Street and making tons of money.
But please, tell me more about how only dumb people join the military.
