The People’s Councilor Michael Gaffney posted this on the Facebook machine yesterday:

That looks like Turtleboy Jr’s pancakes after he’s done with them. Oh well, at least it’s not an important walkway. It’s not like it’s Main Street or anything. Who’s got the time to get Paul Moosey to do his job for once? We’ve got ribbons that need cutting and hotels that need a building. Once we have more hotels and yuppie housing the economy will boom and we’ll have a bunch of suits walking around downtown sipping Mimosas and talking about world domination.

Seriously though, on what planet of lowered expectations is this at all acceptable? How is this not a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act? How the hell is someone in a wheelchari supposed to get where they’re going if the sidewalk looks like a remote village in Mogadishu?

Here’s what city leaders were doing yesterday instead of fixing this sidewalk:

Oh good, more shoveling and ribbon cutting!! Just what we needed. Somewhere out there a ribbon is waiting to be cut, and one day Sarai and Fast Eddie will cut it. And all the usual do-nothing politicians were there to celebrate the groundbreaking for a pie chain outlet. The best part is that this dedication happened in the middle of the day on a Thursday. Keep in mind, being on the City Council in Worcester is a part time job. These people all allegedly have real jobs elsewhere. Yet here are Sarai Rivera, Gary Rosen, Joe Petty, and Tony Economou who seem to have nothing but time on their hands. Shouldn’t Sarai be preparing her next homily about the importance of handing over 20% of your week’s pay to her newest “church?”

But of course the reason we have to put up with half assed, bootleg public works projects like this, is because the citizens of Worcester who vote in these boobs are 1,000% loyal to them, regardless of how grossly incompetent they are:

screen-shot-2016-10-21-at-9-49-54-am

In the meantime, I guess the disabled can go fuck themselves, right Crystal?

screen-shot-2016-10-21-at-9-57-13-am

But she’s right. There are bigger issues in this city, none of which seem to be getting addressed. Did we all forget the bang up job they did plowing the roads after the three times it snowed last year? Or the crime? Or the wasted money on chief diversity officers and DOJ race discussions? PC bullshit, ribbon cuttings, and chain restaurants are what Ed Augustus and Worcester’s leadership are good at. Fixing basic things in order to make Worcester look less like a third world trash pit? Not so much.

That’s not a “temporary fix” — for anyone who’s walked down that sidewalk, that’s how the DPW has been patching holes or replacing missing stones for YEARS! That sidewalk all the way down to City Hall has loose or missing stones, uneven black asphalt and very uneven bumps. I’ve almost rolled my ankle countless times on that sidewalk — and when you walk on it you have to look down and focus on each step because you never know what kind of footing your next step will be on. Very shoddy, not temporary, just another example of the DPW’s minimal effort put in to fix anything. No wonder Worcester looks so bleak.

Well, if they didn’t throw away $$$ 3 million on a fucking bike path in Main South, they would have money to fix the sidewalk properly. I’m estimating, based on historical outlays , that repair probably cost about $450,000 Well worth the cost

This Crystal clown used to brag about collecting unemployment illegally while still working under the table at that flower shop that used to be on June St. and using the unemployment to fund her hiking trips and the nice west side apartment she moved into. She’s a scumbag ratchet hoodrat nudnik!

Why is a sitting City Councilor purposely posting pictures of a sidewalk that obviously has been temporarily repaired? And why does his minion TB eagerly act like his lap dog? Sounds kind of creepy to me!

That’s not a repair, it’s just life for pedestrians in town with rampant gaggles of Canada Geese and the road paving asphalt turds from a flock of Wild Turkeys

Doesn’t matter if it’s being dug up next week, needs to be safe until then,or closed. They will fix it after on of the pan handlers breaks an ankle and sues the city for millions of dollars. They will have to sell the land where Tracy Novik lives to get it back on the tax rolls to pay the panhandler, who will then go on to live like Jesse Pinkman.

Is Gaffney or TB a Stone Mason? Either of you ever lay down a proper stone/brick patio? I thought not!

Does Crystal work in meaningful employment. Based n a cursory insert search she seems to have a lot of free time. Has it been confirmed that this sidewalk is soon to be torn up and the patchwork repair job is the best solution. Did Gaffney know this?

Those DPW guys are out straight. The one who lives up the street from me leaves in the morning, is back home by 9am and is there til usually 4pm. i thing he only goes in to sign in and out. The dpw&p truck is always in front of his house.

This stretch of sidewalk is a major major issue. Beside the obvious danger of broken ankles is the fact that 1000s of vistors every month walk this patch as a first impression of the City. This should be a top priority.

I’ve had enough of this criticism! I have zero experience managing a city. I lied about not taking this job on a full-time basis. I live in tony, beautiful Millis, over an hour away from this shithole of a city. All I care about is my all-in, $300k pay package and living it up with my boyfriends. McGovern got me this job, and the city council is ensuring I’m keeping it. You’re all my bitches, so go to hell.

Do they need a new DPW chief??? Wow, I just went to WAlmart and there were pothole by the entrance on the city road for a couple of months, now they patched them much higher than the road, so it’s a bumpier ride than the potholes were.

Good way to trip, hit your head and die. What moron would put street pot-hole patch on a sidewalk. It’s not made for that. There’s many other materials that are available for sidewalk repair. Really cutting edge here. No wonder why the vast majority of out-of-town college grads. Flee this city like lighting, when they graduate. This is a good example of incompetence.

I lived in Springfield for a few years. I didn’t expect much while I was there, but two times I contacted the DPW and each time, the next day the problem was fixed. I was amazed by the level of service. That is what the local govt should achieve. If you recieve less and complain, it is not “petty”.

I’m a fan of turtleboy and not a Dpw person but I know construction and that’s a temporary fix because that sidewalk is obviously going to be dug up. The marks in the picture are dig safe marks so people should do their homework before a councilor who has access should look before he leaps. A permanent repair would be a waste because it’s going to be dug up! Guess time will tell and I bet there will be no retraction when I’m right

I moved out of the north east about 12 years ago but Worcester County will always be home. When I visit and drive through the city, its quite depressing. Yeah, Worcester is dirty, drab, and run down but you really don’t see the extent of it until you leave for long time and return. All cities have their bad areas but Worcester takes it to the next level. The better parts of Worcester look as run down and gray as the worst parts of other cities. It is amazing how beautiful local governments can make a city if they actually use the funding for what it is for as opposed to government officials lining their own pockets and the pockets of their business owner friends by accepting insanely high bids for contracted work and paying managing officials like Ed Augustus a quarter of a mil per year for crap work (like the pictures in the article.)

  • Ed Agustus

Finally! Documented proof of the “growing pains” our city is going through. The sidewalks are literally expanding!

Also, my snowplow report is coming along nicely. I can’t say how much longer it will take but believe me it is worth the wait!

Let’s face it, Worcester AKA Wormtown is a crime ridden shithole. I will not go into Worcester by choice. Not to the “theater”, the dirty common, or to the shabby “restaurant row”. Shitty sidewalks are the least of the problem, but what worker in their right mind would use black asphalt to patch a sidewalk like that. It just goes to show that putting in fancy sidewalks and then poorly, if at all, maintaining them is what Wormytown is all about. Between the panhandlers and gang presence, I’ll go somewhere else or stay home. Oh yeah, anytime I drive down “restaurant row” and see the patrons sitting on the sidewalk tables, I wonder how carbon monoxide flavored meals and drinks taste.

    • Publius
      October 21, 2016 at 2:29 pm

Shabby restaurant row is increasingly visited by people from eastern mass and elsewhere. Say what you or Publius will about Worcester but one thing it has got is a excellent restaurant vibe. Excellent choices with good food to boot.

In the winter, ANY winter, ALL of downtown is impassable to a wheelchair. The curb cuts where the ramps are is also the exact spot where the snow is piled up. Complaints go

Worcester Technical High has a masonry program, as well as a facilities program either or both could fix these sidewalks right. Anyone ask them?

I suspect the bureaucrats would say can’t allow it due to bidding, union rules, etc.

On the bright side, it will be all covered in snow and ice soon…maybe with a few leftover fall leaves mixed in to boot! Out of sight, out of mind.
