This is what WEEI looks like without Kirk Minihane on the morning show.
— Alex Reimer (@AlexReimer1) January 3, 2019
Oh look, it’s this idiot.
The guy who got suspended for calling Tom Brady’s daughter a pissant.
For the record, I could care less that Alex Reimer called Brady’s kid that and I think the whole thing was overblown. But what that showed you is that Reimer, WEEI’s token sassy gay dude, doesn’t give a shit about PC culture. He just pretends to because he’s doing an act. Because if you’re presenting yourself as the liberal antithesis to Gerry Callahan, you have to pretend to be offended by everything, even though he clearly is not. At least Trenni and Tomase are legit bleeding heart liberals. Alex Reimer just pretends to be. That’s why he’s pretending to be outraged that five black coaches got fired in the NFL last week for being less than mediocre at their jobs.
The NFL is an overwhelmingly black league with only two African-American coaches right now. That is a big problem. The lack of diversity on NFL sidelines and front offices came to light this week with the firing of five black coaches at the end of the season: Hue Jackson, Todd Bowles, Steve Wilks, Vance Joseph and Marvin Lewis. Individually, all five of these coaches deserved to lose their jobs. But that’s missing the point. This is about opportunity, and right now, it’s apparent minority candidates are getting grossly overlooked.
Wait…..what? All of those guys sucked and deserved to be fired, which he readily admits. But yet black dudes aren’t getting opportunities to coach in the NFL? Because Marvin Lewis 25 years of doing nothing in Cincinnati doesn’t qualify as “opportunity” to the pissant pretending to be outraged by something.
As the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin notes, the NFL is 70-percent black. Yet, the only minority head coaches are Anthony Lynn (Chargers), Mike Tomlin (Steelers) and Ron Rivera (Panthers). Even more egregiously, there is only one black general manager, Dolphins GM Chris Grier. Reggie McKenzie was fired from the Raiders and Ozzie Newsome will retire when the Ravens’ season ends.
Question – how many white cornerbacks are there in the NFL? Oh right, zero. I guess NFL teams must be racist too, because they only let black guys make millions of dollars a year playing a game.
How many transgendered Mongolian midgets are currently GMs? Oh right, zero. I for one am sick and tired of this obvious bias against transgendered Mongolian midgets.
Or even better – how many black guys are currently on the radio at WEEI?
Oh right – zero. Because God forbid they try to hire someone to replace low ratings Dale “Ned Flanders” Arnold. If Alex Reimer actually gave a shit about diversity he’d resign from his job and demand that it be filled by a black guy. But of course he’s not going to do that, because people like him don’t actually believe anything they say. They just want to get some pats on the back for being one of the “good ones” while acknowledging their white privilege.
Of course if you’re looking for diversity you could always just go across the street to 98.5 the Sports Hub.
Oh wait, they’re actually whiter than a Taylor Swift concert in Manitoba. Looks like sports radio as a whole is more racist than the NFL.
See how stupid that sounds?
And this problem doesn’t seem like it’s ending any time soon. Of the 20 head coaches hired over the last three years, 15 have offensive backgrounds. Right now, there are only four African-American offensive coordinators and quarterback coaches. There are three explanations for the dearth of black decision-makers in comparison to the number of black players in the league: They’re largely uninterested in getting into coaching or football management, they’re incapable of rising through the ranks, or they’re not given an equal chance to compete for these high-powered jobs. The third answer is the only plausible response, and it’s not just the Social Justice Warrior crowd that’s making the case. The NFL agrees.
Or maybe, just maybe, African-Americans are already more than proportionately represented as head coaches. Roughly 1/8 of the population is black. This season 7/32 of NFL head coaches were black, which is nearly double the national percentage. Yes, 5 of the crapbag coaches who were fired were black. Personally, I think Wilks should’ve kept his job since Vince Lombardi couldn’t have won more than 4 games with the flaming bag of burning foreskin he inherited, and Mike Tomlin should be unemployed. But the number would still be 5. If they hire 2 black coaches then it will be 4/32 or 1/8. If they hire zero, that’s OK too, as long as the most qualified people are chosen for the positions.
Here’s my question for Alex Reimer – who is the highly qualified black dude who got passed over for a head coaching job? Could you name him? Of course not. Because you’re not part of the interview process, you have no idea what these teams are looking for, and you’re just looking at aggregate data in a lame attempt to prove how woke you are.
Gerry Callahan and his ilk will argue that race shouldn’t matter when it comes to selecting head coaches. He says the NFL is the ultimate meritocracy. But the lack of blacks in prominent management positions –– again, there is only one black GM at the moment –– says that isn’t true. Presumably, there is more than one black person in the world who can put together an NFL roster. They aren’t given the chance to get through the door. These barriers of entry exist across Corporate America and in our politics.
Wrong. If a black GM came along who could do a job better than an existing white counterpart they would be hired in a second. Because that’s how things work in a free market – you hire the best person for the job regardless of race. That’s why there are no white cornerbacks in the NFL – because by and large white guys can’t play that position as well.
Oh, and the vast majority of NFL coaches never played in the NFL, so the idea that they should represent the players is stupid and poorly thought out. But of course Alex doesn’t actually mean any of this anyway. He’s just trolling the Callahan crowd.
It’s important for decision-makers to reflect the makeup of their workforce.
No it’s not.
When LeBron James says the NFL has a “slave mentality,” this epidemic is partially what he’s referring to. The vast majority of NFL players are black, and almost all of the power brokers are white.
No rational person heard LeBron’s idiotic comments about the NFL treating it’s players like slaves seriously. He was widely mocked and ridiculed for it because it was such a stupid thing to say. No slaves in the history of slavery got paid millions of dollars to play a sport. There was no free agency in slavery where slaves got to go to the plantation that paid them the most money. Slaves don’t get Nike contracts. And the fact that Reimer is actually quoting him as supportive evidence makes him a bigger joke than Bron-Bron.
