So the Turtleboy family got into a pretty animated argument the other night with about the all important question – who is a better actor RIGHT NOW – Bradley Cooper or Leonardo DiCaprio. I feel like it needs to be addressed, so Reggie Turtleboy and Uncle Turtleboy will both make their cases and we’ll let the people decide.
Reggie Turtleboy: First of all, name a bad role that Bradley Cooper has ever played. You can’t. He dominates the silver screen like no one else in Hollywood right now. He’s not the household name that Leo is because Sack Lunch wasn’t introduced to us in Wedding Crashers until he was 30 years old, and Leo was the foster kid on Growing Pains decades ago. More importantly though, Leo gets handed some of the easiest roles in can’t miss movies with expensive budgets – Titanic, The Great Gatsby, Django Unchained. Bradley Cooper has to earn his. What he did in Silver Linings Playbook has never been matched by Leo in any other movie.
How many people actually went and saw Beyond the Pines? Bradley Cooper was fantastic in that movie. He stole all The Hangover movies, he was perhaps the greatest villain of all time in Wedding Crashers, American Sniper was a masterpiece, and he was awesome in American hustle. He hasn’t been in as many great movies as Leo, but if I’m making a billion dollar movie tomorrow then there’s a 0% chance I take Leo over Bradley Cooper.
Uncle Turtleboy: The Departed, Wolf of Wall Street, Django Unchained, The Great Gatsby. Conversation over.
Reggie Turtleboy: Those movies were can’t miss!!! When you star in a Scorcese or Tarrentino movie you can’t possibly fail. You get to play outrageous characters who say outrageous things. Oh yea, and Leo was average at best in The Departed. Mark Wahlberg and Alec Baldwin were minor parts who stole that movie.
Uncle Turtleboy: Bradley Cooper is typecasted as a washed up frat boy with a never ending supply of zingy one-liners. Leo can play any role.
Reggie Turtleboy: Name Leo’s Top 10 movies.
10. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape
9. J. Edgar
8. Blood Diamond
7. Basketball Diaries
6. The Great Gatsby
3. Django Unchained
2. Wolf of Wall Street
1. The Departed
Reggie Turtleboy: Inception? Most overrated movie of all time. Titanic? How old are you? See, you fell for all the bullshit big name movies and just proved my point. Leo’s a great actor obviously, but here’s his Top 10 movies:
10. The Man In The Iron Mask
9. The Great Gatsby
8. The Departed
7. Romeo and Juliet
6. Django Unchained
5. Wolf of Wall Street
4. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape
3. Catch Me If You Can
2. Gangs of New York
1. Blood Diamond
Those top three are non-negotiable. Leo in Catch Me If You Can is my life role model.
Uncle Turtleboy: Everything you like sucks. You have terrible taste. I’ve seen the songs on your iPod.
Reggie Turtleboy: I’m writing a blog on this next week asshole.
After that we got into a huge argument about movies on the Tee and the rest of the drunks on the train jumped into the conversation. We might have to do more blogs like this. Give us more ideas to argue about or pick to actors or two movies and make your case about one over the other and maybe we’ll blog about it in the future.
