Turtleboy Family Worcester (And Boston) Olympics 2024

So it was announced yesterday that Boston is one of the finalists for the 2024 Summer Olympics. As if it was ever in doubt. Boston beat out San Francisco, Washington D.C, and Los Angeles. Might as well have been going up against Buffalo and Detroit. Wasn’t really a fair fight to begin with. Boston is the indisputable city of champions. All we do is win here. It’s only fitting that we host the greatest spectacle on earth.

I don’t have that strong of an opinion about it. Usually I only write blogs that I’m fired up about. But with this one I’m more interested in how the poll at the top of the blog turns out. Because it seems like the vast majority of loud mouths on the Internet are against this.

As of right now I’m looking forward to it though. I know I’m getting ahead of myself here, but there’s just no way that Boston doesn’t get the nod. I mean, who are our competitors? Rome? This isn’t 30 B.C. South Africa? LOL, South Africa. It’s gonna be pretty cool when it does come. I can take Turtleboy Jr. to see the best rhythmic gymnastics that Bulgaria has to offer. Who knows, I might even have a little Turtle Princess who can go and see her favorite fencers go head to head.

I forgot how much I love the Summer Olympics in general. Anyone who thinks the Winter Olympics is better doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Oh yea, and there’s a chance we could actually have the games in Worcester. Suck on that Margee P. We could roll out of bed and head over to Lake Quinsigamond to watch Norway and Belgium go head to head in the two man canoe race. Anyone worrying about traffic is obviously a moron. If you haven’t figured out the side streets after our blog last week then there might not be any hope for you.

Oh yea, and Boston is pretty much the safest place in the world to have an Olympics. I hate to say it, but I definitely think there was a little “Boston Strong” sympathy going on with this decision. It’s been almost two years since the marathon bombing but the world hasn’t forgotten. And the Olympics are the biggest target for terrorists in the world. Boston is gonna be the biggest occupation force you’ve ever seen in 2024. Hippies are gonna hate it, which obviously is a win-win for everyone else.

Other naysayers I’ve seen think that it’s a waste of money for taxpayers. Newsflash – it’s not gonna cost a single person reading this a dime. Another thing they’re complaining about is that it’s supposedly a bad investment because places like Athens, Beijing, and Sochi became wastelands afterwards. Newsflash – those cities aren’t in real countries. America knows how to put on a show.

Let’s see what people are saying on the INTERNET!!

I dunno, I guess I just don’t get the negativity. Can’t anyone around here ever be happy for a change instead of bitching about where you’re gonna park NINE FREAKING YEARS from now? How about you have a coke and a smile and shut the fuck and enjoy the fact that it’s pretty freaking cool to have this event in our backyard?

Feel free to share your thoughts to keep the conversation going.

The Summer Games held most of their allure for me back in 1996, when I was 16 and spanking it nightly to the female gymnasts. But by the time 2024 rolls around I’ll be 44 and the gymnasts will be like… 19 at the most. Even I’m not that much of a pervert.

I’d have to assume that many of the indoor events could be over at DCU and Lake Quinsigamond could be used for crew. Hell, the marathon, using the Boston marathon route? That fact more than anything could help the city’s chances.

Forget the pomp and circumstance. Can the city produce a cost effective, and organized games? This isn’t a third world jubilee or a dictator’s chance to show how awesome they are.

If the IOC wants to keep these games from becoming Developing World pity parties, they need to cut back on the show, and focus on places that can protect and honor the games.

I live on Coburn, and I would love the opportunity, as long as none of these mooks mess up my commute over the bridge to Five Guys!
