Facebook is not the only social media platform that is banning the turtle….
This is our second Twitter account that has been “suspended” (which really means unpublished) without any warning, explanation as to why it has been suspended, or means to appeal. As you can see the last thing that appears on our timeline is some Barstool bro calling us a moron. He was very upset that we revealed the names of some violent offenders who attacked four innocent Milton teens in a videotaped attack in broad daylight last summer. We pointed this out to him, he called us a moron, and the next thing you know our Twitter no longer exists.
For those of you keeping track at home this is our second Twitter account deactivated. We’ve got a new one though – @TurtleboyNews. Follow that for now, because we refuse to be silenced.
Social media is completely destroying itself. Last week Steve Crowder, who has a following of over 1 million and is not even remotely close to being inappropriate, was suspended without cause as well. Facebook lost billions of dollars the other day after years of nothing but growth. What these silicon valley douchebag billionaires don’t realize is that they became rich by creating free speech platforms that people actually wanted to join. But because they’ve decided that it is their job to make sure that no user ever sees something they don’t like, they’ve given users the ability to take other people down, and in turn their product has become shitty.
What they should do is what we’ve been saying all along – treat their products like AT&T and UPS do. UPS does’t care if they deliver a KKK magazine from one person to another. AT&T doesn’t care if you use hate speech on their phones. It’s not their job to care. It’s their job to provide the medium for people to communicate. If Facebook and Twitter stuck to this business model they would thrive. The only way to kill their monopoly is to do what they are doing now. This will be their downfall.
Breitbart, came up with the best way Facebook and Twitter should conduct their business:
Hey, free speech is free speech. If you are offended, block him. If you are harassed, block him. If you believe someone posted fake news, out them with facts. If you believe someone lied, tell the truth. If you believe someone is denigrating you, ignore him. If you believe someone is breaking the law, send a screencap to law enforcement. We do not tell people, even evil people — commies, Nazis, Antifa, the KKK — how they can or cannot speak. That is up to your elected officials. Additionally, we have no algorithm that controls the flow of information because that would be un-American. Finally, no one, not Obama, not Cambridge Analytics, gets access to your data. That is solely up to you. Facebook is an equal free speech playing field where you control what you do and do not see. If you don’t like it, don’t look at it.
We will continue to use both Facebook and Twitter because we are a media outlet. We don’t have a choice. As much as we’d love to tell them to fuck off and do our own thing, this is how we grow our audience. How else would new readers find out about our blog?
There’s no alternative. No choice. No competitive market. Facebook and Twitter are monopolies. Instagram is for chicks (it’s also owned by Facebook), and you can’t post links. So it’s completely useless when it comes to sharing our content. Conservative are all “Turtleboy, you should go Gab.” So we did. Guess what? No one’s on Gab. What the fuck is the point of joining a social network that no one uses?
Over 75% of Americans are on either Twitter or Facebook. That’s an INSANE number. Social media is the public square. It’s an all powerful entity that most people use now as a primary means of communication. Courts have ruled that it is the public square. They do not have the right to deny people access to the public square who have not broken any laws.
We are going to get more into this in tonight’s podcast which will be on our iTunes ad SoundCloud channel late night. Strong words will be used.
