Two years ago today the least successful boycott in world history began. Two years later Turtleboy is stronger than ever and continues to grow on a daily basis.

Editor’s Note: This blog came up as a two year memory on Clarence Woods Emerson’s Facebook page today. It was the first attempt at a boycott of Turtleboy Sports advertisers, and there have been countless since. All have failed miserably. Since then some advertisers have come and gone, as businesses often do during scheduled marketing campaigns. Others are still with us because we help bring them business and support them in the community. Some even stayed on with us longer than they originally planned out of spite, as they do not like being pushed around and told who they can do business with. The whole purpose of this boycott was to shut down Turtleboy Sports. At the time we had under 10,000 followers on Facebook, and less than half a million viewers per month. Now we have 55,000 followers on Facebook, and we’re on pace for over 2.5 million viewers this month. Cool boycott.
The protesters realize they can’t stop us from reporting the truth at Turtleboy Sports. For years they’ve had a monopoly on the “conversation” because they block intersections, get special meetings with the superintendent, and take over City Council meetings. It drives them INSANE that we won’t let up in the face of their bullying, and the non-stop smear campaign by their partner in crime Clive McFarlane at the Telegram. They’ve never had a valid point to make, so instead of attempting to engage in a rational discussion, they call you “racist” or “sexist” or “misogynist” or “bigoted” or whatever word they think will deter you from speaking honestly about social issues. That’s why one of their leaders – Joyce McNickles – emailed all of our advertisers yesterday with what would have to be considered spam.
This was copy and pasted from “email@example.com” and sent to anyone affiliated with Turtleboy:
“I am very disappointed and disturbed that your company would support the racist and sexist vitriol of Turtle Boy sports by advertising on his site. Many in the community are strongly considering a boycott of your business as well as waging a public campaign to bring attention to your company’s relationship with this racist and sexist individual.”
Alright where do we start here. Let’s start with “racist.”
Allegation – Turtleboy is racist.
Please, show me ONE blog that you consider “racist.” Just one. They won’t be able to of course, because that’s just silly. Calling someone “racist” is what you say when you don’t have a valid point to make. Yesterday some genius messaged us and told us that our blogs have “racist undertones.” AKA what you’re writing isn’t racist, but I’m going to take it as racist anyway, because that’s generally what I do best. He also had this to say:
Let me know when you can come out your shell, or clans hood because y’all was saying some crazy disrespectful, ignorant, racists words. Just like the cowardly kkk hide in hoods.
Yup. We believe that police should be respected, teachers should be safe, and a petition signed by 500 kids at North High for a police officer to be placed at the school should be taken seriously. Now where’s my hood?
It also happens that more than one of our writers and contributors are people of color. They’re my friends not because of the color of their skin, but because they’re good people. One of them was responding to this kind protester to tell him that he took offense to being called racist, because he was not white. The response he got back?
No you can’t be racist but there is other writers on the blog that use that same racist tone. Black people that hate themselves had your type of views.
Oh, so now our writers “hate themselves” because they don’t subscribe to a particular brand of radical ideology. Gotcha. He wasn’t done insulting him though:
He seems nice. Apparently he has a show every Tuesday from 12-1 PM on 91.3 FM and wanted us to come on his show that no one listens to. Sounds like a worthwhile venture. When we told him we were all set it didn’t go over well:
There it is. This is the type of lovely individual Joyce McNickles has aligned herself with. Excellent choice.
Anyway, let’s address point #2 from Joyce’s email – Turtleboy Sports is sexist.
Allegation – Turtleboy is sexist.
First of all, everyone knows Turtleboy Sports is a feminist family blog. Secondly, Joyce chose a man named David Jerry to be the group’s spokesperson for North High parents the other day. Now I don’t think David Jerry is a bad guy at all. He obviously cares about his son. But it’s pretty clear that Joyce and the crew chose him to be their speaker because he could be manipulated into saying what they wanted him to say. Here she is standing on the right next to Mr. Jerry:
Keep in mind, she called TURTLEBOY sexist. Here’s some things David, her chosen speaker for justice, had to say on Facebook about women:
If I ever shared things on Facebook that endorsed sexism by saying things like, “Bitches be like” or “how to shut down a ho proper,” or even worse, share images of a woman who is clearly abused by her boyfriend but doesn’t wanna leave because “the stroke game too real,” then Momma Turtleboy and Mrs. Turtleboy would smack me in the head. Hey Joyce, you stood up in there in solidarity with a guy who promoted stuff like this. But please, tell me more about how Turtleboy Sports is the sexist one.
Allegation/Threat #3 – Many in the community are strongly considering a boycott of your business.
Many in the “community” huh? Because I’m sure Robert Blackwell-Gibbs was about to buy some car insurance from JJM. I’m sure Joyce McNickles was about to leave her comfortable home in Sutton and come to Worcester so she get a beer at the Union Tavern or Bennie’s Cafe. I’m sure Professor Sonya Conner was about to stuff her face with chicken wings at Smokestack Urban Barbecue.
Newsflash hippies – you’re not nearly as important as you think you are. Why do you think Turtleboy Sports has gets over half a million page views every month? Because Worcester is some sort of Ku Klux Klan central? Nope. It’s because Turtleboy stands up for the right people – teachers, cops, nurses, children, the elderly, anyone who uses the Chandler Magnet ballfields and woods, babies, small businesses, Toys for Tots, people being denied health coverage for life saving procedures, the LBGT community, and tons of great charities like Andy’s Attic.
What have you done Joyce? You stand up there and trash North High school teachers. You try to censor them on social media because they have the audacity to agree with the only news source that is standing up for safety in that school. You are letting your hatred and mistrust of the police endanger students at North High. And we’re supposed to agree with you or else you’ll bully our sponsors? I’m not mad though. I still see the good in you regardless.
I guess it’s not surprising that she doesn’t mind endangering teachers though, because she generally doesn’t mind endangering anyone so long as it fits her anti-police agenda. After all, this is the same woman who on Martin Luther King Jr. day suggested that MLK would have supported rioting and lawlessness in Ferguson:
MLK would “embrace disruptive protests.” Right. Because I remember learning in school about how he liked to loot small businesses and burn things.
She also doesn’t think you have a right to get the hospital if you’re dying:
If you’re inconvenienced by dooshnozzles like this blocking your access to emergency health care:
Then tough shit!! Joyce McNickles believes people like these hippies have the right to keep people like this from getting chemotherapy:
She even noted civil rights leader Reverend Eugene Rivers called these protesters “white, occupy Wall Street trust fund babies, having fun at the expense of black people”
He must be racist too.
And just a reminder that she stands behind Clive McFarlane, and actually quoted an excerpt from his column that called teacher’s who expressed their opinions on social media “sabotage.”
This is the same Clive McFarlane who bullied and harassed a former North High teacher at Joyce’s “press conference” the other day. This is the same Clive McFarlane who said that the crisis at North High was started by old, white, female teachers, and not the students who had assaulted all four vice prinicpals in the school. She stands by Clive and his hateful vitriol.
But is Turtleboy harassing Telegram and Gazette advertisers? After all, those are the people who pay Clive to take a steamy dump on teachers and cops like it’s going out of style. We could I suppose, but it’s in poor taste. If these businesses wanna pay Clive’s salary then go right ahead. But God forbid local businesses choose to associate themselves with a local Mom and Pop blog that stands up for people in our society who are being picked on by Joyce and Clive.
And did I mention that she’s married to everyone’s favorite elderly Telegram blogger Carlo Baldino, who had this to say in his last Facebook post:
Apparently white people have a “genetic abnormality” that makes them try to “take over” everything. Hot take old man Carlo. This is who Joyce McNickles has chosen for a mate. This is the person who wants you to boycott businesses that sponsor Turtleboy.
Notice what town Carlo posted that message from. Sutton. Lovely town. One day I wouldn’t mind living in Sutton. It’s got great highway access, Purgatory Chasm, and Tony’s Pizza. But if I ever do live in Sutton one day, I certainly won’t demand meetings with Worcester’s superintendent, mayor, city manager, and North High principal Lisa Dyer. Joyce McNickles got a private meeting with all four of them last week.
Ya got that? Someone who doesn’t pay taxes to the city of Worcester was able to get a private meeting with four people on the city pay roll. All four of them were either directly or indirectly chosen by the taxpaying citizens of Worcester to serve us. Instead they are meeting with people from Sutton, while everyone else is virtually ignored.
This is why we fight at Turtleboy Sports. What they’re doing is wrong. It’s corrupt. It’s immoral. It’s dangerous. It’s selfish. Do you think Joyce Mcnickles wants to give this power up without a fight? Hell no. That’s why she called out Turtleboy Sports at her “press conference” the other day.
But now she realizes she can’t stop the Turtleboy Sports revolution so she’s trying to cut off our funding. Well guess what Joyce? It’s not gonna work because rational people who support the teachers, students, police, first responders, small businesses, and all other aspects of the Worcester community, aren’t gonna let you bully us anymore. How do we let her know that she doesn’t get to dictate what we read and how we should feel? By supporting the Turtleboy Sponsors:
Seriously. If you’re insulted by things these outside groups have done to the people of Worcester then the best way to show them that they don’t get to win is by doing business with any of these establishments. Or if you have done business with them before then send them an email and let them know about how much you enjoyed their services. CC firstname.lastname@example.org to the email too. We stand by all of our sponsors.
We urge you to support the Turtleboy Sponsors by doing business with them. Without them none of this is possible. Click on any of them to check out their sites or Facebook pages.
