Turtle Rider Email:

Turtle Boy,

Greetings from UMass Amherst. I am a fan of your web site and have been following it for a year or so now. I just wanted to make you aware of a situation that may be developing here at UMass Amherst. There are a set of stairs on campus outside in the Central Residential Community. In between the stairs there is a concrete wall. The concrete wall is a designated space for free expression and art etc. Usually hippies end up up painting some colorful mural of some sort. The paintings get painted, they hang around for a little bit then some one whites it out and paints a new mural. It provides for some nice street art on my walk back from class.

Anyways, last week a group of students painted “black lives matter” in red across a mural. The next day the wall was painted black, and in white paint was painted “black lives matter” and a list of names of criminals who have been abused/shot by police etc.

That night someone added an addition to that painting. The next morning on my way back from class I noticed someone painted “all” over every “black” on the wall, changing the sentence to “all lives matter.” Earlier today the UMass Black Student Union held a rally at the steps, which is in between two dorms (keep in mind it is finals week and all dorms are enforcing 24 hour quiet hours to help students prepare for exams).

The Black Student Union (BSU) painted over everything in black ( oh and by the way they were only allowing students of color to be apart of this process). They also painted some new words/phrases I’m sure. The reason I don’t know for sure is because the BSU is guarding the wall now. The last time I passed the wall was an hour or so before writing this, so 1 am, and there was at least ten students staked out in front of the wall, yes the same wall meant for anyone to use to paint ART.

20150505_10375120150505_10364711193274_10206959632497084_1514669334742663072_n

I forgot what a parallel universe UMass can be. Seriously, imagine 10,000 RBG’s being taught by 500 Joyce McNickles and Sonya Conner. That’s UMass. Nothing about this story is the least bit surprising.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I have no time for people like this because I’m too busy loving everyone. Seriously, if we’ve never crossed paths before and I know nothing about you, my instinct is to love you no matter what your skin color is. But if you go and start saying dumb things on the Internet, excluding people because they’re not of a certain race, and monopolizing the conversation, you’ve officially lost my turtle love.

The hippies would be best fitted to follow this simple plan as well. They spend way too much time going around looking for people to hate. They’d probably be a lot happier if they just stepped back, took a deep breath, and strarted judging people based on their character instead of the color of their skin.

This whole incident is pretty simple to break down. The wall is a public mural. It’s painted over frequently. It’s not UMass sanctioned, and it certainly doesn’t belong to the UMass Black Student Union. Don’t like the fact that they wrote “All lives matter” everywhere? Cool. Paint over it tomorrow. Then you and the people who wrote “all lives matter” can go back and forth wasting your time painting a stupid wall that doesn’t matter. The rest of us will be living in reality going to work and paying our bills. All this incident does is prove that college is nothing but a fantasy land where nothing really matters.

Let’s look at some of the dumb things people have said about this:

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 6.34.48 PM

Ahhh yes – “white privilege.” Classic. I went to UMass for one semester and dropped out because I couldn’t afford it. I’m also white, so my hopes of qualifying for any sort of scholarship was basically out the window.  Thus I did the only thing I could do to eventually pay for college – enlist in the National Guard. Then 9/11 happened and that was the end of my college career.

The “Black Student Union” has the privilege of attending a great school, which will then enable them to go on and earn a great living after college. I was denied this privilege that they were given, because they had more money than I did. But please, tell me more about all of the privileges I have. Afghanistan in the summer was a real thrill.

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 6.35.28 PM

“If you break the law you go to jail.” Seems like a reasonable thing to say. But when you’re Andrew Gora, and you’re filled with hate and white guilt, you have to call someone who says something as common sense as this, “probably the most garbage reductionist argument I’ve seen.” At least he’s got a strong selfie game though.

If Sam Gross had his way, anyone who has the audacity to suggest that “All lives matter” would be banned from attending the University of Massachusetts. That seems reasonable. How dare someone suggest that NYPD officer Brian Moore’s life mattered. He’s not even black. There’s nothing hateful about that at all. Absolutely nothing. Keep doing you Sam Gross.

Yea black people can’t walk down the street without getting murdered. It’s literally impossible. And if you disagree with this man right here

10702166_1410532412525563_3212697601543141816_n

then according to him you are “worthless.” Hey Clark Smith, you should really lay off the hate and start trying to love everyone man. I thought that’s what you hippies were all about – love.
Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 6.54.15 PM

LOL. “Black lives fucking matter.” Where’s the love Ashley Jane Malvey?Black lives matter might be the most common sense statement in world history. Of course black lives matter. Duh. Due process also matters. So do the lives of everyone. That’s why a grand jury heard testimony and investigated the death of Michael Brown.

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 6.55.22 PM

Rational person: “Police lives matter.” Hippie: “fuck off.” This about sums up what the protesters are all about. Where’s the love Ashley?

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 6.56.33 PM

So if we have the audacity to disagree with your constant attempts to divide America racially, we should “stuff a rag into our mouth and never take it out.” You mad girlfriend?

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 6.57.56 PM

I actually agree with Kate DuBois. I always thought Boston Strong was a stupid slogan. And just like if you said “Black lives matter” was a dumb slogan, if you said “Boston Strong” was dumb out loud, you got crucified. Because guess what? If St. Louis, or Minneapolis, or Chicago got blown up, they’d be strong too. It’s not like we had supernatural powers in Massachusetts. All we did was watch the news from the our suburban homes for three days until they got Jafar and Timon. Boston Strong is a stupid slogan, and so is Black Lives Matter.

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 7.00.45 PM Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 7.01.02 PM

First of all, this is what we are dealing with in regards to Lauran Brisbois:

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 6.59.42 PM Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 7.00.01 PMAnd obviously we are going to take what she’s saying VERY seriously. After all, she’s gone through intensive wizard training. We should definitely take her seriously when she says, “Black people are being murdered because they’re black.” Why just last week I was watching Judge Judy, and she found this poor schmuck guilty on account of not being white. Hopefully once she finishes wizard school racism will be forever fixed.

In conclusion, hippies, stop hating and start loving.

Disregard everything I posted previously, I have been getting terrible cramps from PMS and it causes me to lie about random people on the Internet. It’s all good now, I just bought a 12 inch black dildo and I’ll be spending the rest of the day breaking in my tight Asian asshole. Super excited!!!

When one has been bested, it is always sound judgement to win the fight by calling someone gay. Works almost as well as calling someone a racist. It just proves that you hippy bastards are frauds. “If you don’t agree with us we will yell at you and degrade you” that’s set backs your own “movement”.

      You are all frauds

I wish I knew this Sam g: looks like he has a huge problem getting all these pussies off his dick. Only a raging pussy would talk shit on the Internet about someone hiding behind their computer screen. There’s a reason you all stay anonymous. It’s because you are all pussy bitches. I guarentee none of you would have the balls to do any of this in the real world or say any of this shit to Sam’s face.

Haters gonna hate when they have no lives, if this kid is such a loser, why would you waste your life talking shit on the Internet about him. That’s rhetorical. Don’t answer.

this article makes me sick. And yes it is your opinion and you have the right to share it. You are one of those people that trying to have a good conversation with is like trying to talk to a wall, it just isn’t going to go anywhere. I am sorry you had to leave UMASS and join the military and go to Afghanistan, thank you for your service. But it isn’t anyone commenting on that threads fault. It isn’t that black student unions fault. You completely twisted my words around as well as many others. I believe in what the black lives matter Movement stands for, I COMPLETELY believe in Boston strong. My uncle lost his leg at the Boston marathon bombings. He has had over 200 surgeries since then. He knows how to be strong, trust me. This article is a sad man trolling a UMASS thread because he is butthurt about his own life.

    • Beetle
      May 7, 2015 at 6:50 am

Your uncle did not have over 200 surgeries since the bombing. … It’s been barely over 2 years since the bombing, so you’re saying he’s gone into surgery once every 3.5 days.

    • Finnish Goalie
      May 7, 2015 at 8:19 am

Here’s part of the problem though. Is this a movement against perceived and actual police brutality, or a race based political movement?

Some powers that be will say, “black and brown people,” but the movement is “Black Lives Matter.” They apparently have to correct for the movements name just about every time they speak on it.

In all honesty, if this is about reforming police, it should be something closer to “All Lives Matter,” or some name that is a challenge to the police (and not something akin to the NWA song).

Because, those that see no problem can simply dismiss it because of the name. “If Black lives matter, reform your own community, stop killing each other, etc.”

    • May 7, 2015 at 8:53 am

I’m sorry about your uncle. But are you suggesting that if he lived in Philadelphia and has the same thing happen, that somehow he wouldn’t have been as “strong?” Are we a magical people in boston who can overcome tragedies like no other people?

      • Steve Gambone
        May 7, 2015 at 6:41 pm

        Well hi there Commander Turtle.

You somehow got the notion into your over-retracted turtle noggin that Boston Strong means nobody else is strong. That’s your mistake not the mistake of others.

Not all that surprising a mistake given that your post on the David Hitch firing was the same as you screaming “Turtleboy Strong”.

You act like you’re the most powerful, almighty gift to Wormtown. So you see the same thing in others.

It’s time for you to raise your game Commander Turtle. What you’re looking at when you see “Boston Strong” is your own reflection. Try to see others as they are not what you are when in their situation

Free your mind from anger Commander. Or it will be your undoing.

        • Finnish Goalie
          May 8, 2015 at 8:03 am

The majority of Boston Strong comments now appear to be associated with the sports teams. Sadly, it has been hijacked.

      • Edrie
        February 19, 2016 at 9:06 pm

Somehow I think you’re missing the point. The fact that he lived in Boston isn’t why he is strong… the fact that he overcame what he did is why he is strong. But instead of writing the name of every individual directly or indirectly affected by the bombing the title 1. Unifies a hurting people by 2. Stating the strength of their accomplishment.

So let me get this straight. Black cant walk down the street without being murdered by the police. Except two times as many white people are killed by the police then black. The largest group of murderers of blacks is other blacks. Look at the FBI stats. Its plain as day. Stupid hippies

Black people make up 13% of the population where as white people make up approximately 75% see how your stats suck yet? I’m on the anti-protestor side of the argument as most of TBS followers are but don’t use stupid stats and expect people to think you’re making sense.

The response to that would be two-fold.

        1) Who would it be ok for the police to shoot? If your answer to that is “no one”, then I’d suggest living in Britain. If your answer is “people committing a violent crime” (which would be my answer), then the percentage, by race, of people who are killed by the police is roughly equivalent to the percentage of people of a particular race who have been convicted of a violent crime. Doesn’t mean that every single person killed by the police was committing a violent crime, but there doesn’t appear to be racial bias when you look at the relative percentages, by race, if we accept that the people doing the crimes are the ones that we’re ok with the police shooting. That’s not to say there isn’t a racial motivation, it just can’t be determined based on the data and the data does not indicate a pervasive bias.

        2) Even if you ignore the above, and focus only on the fact that a disproportionate amount of black people, relative to their representation in the country, are killed by police, the fact remains that a greater number (overall) of the people killed by police are white. Can you name one? Unless you knew someone personally, the odds are relatively slim. I can’t. I haven’t seen any protests on their behalf. I haven’t seen any riots (or “uprisings” or whatever the gloss-over term-du-jour is) on their behalf. I haven’t seen them represented by this movement, or any movement, at all. I’ve seen no media coverage of them. Are their lives worth less because they’re white? Are only black lives worth calling attention to? Protesting for? If you value all life equally, 600 is more than 400 (which is the data I’ve seen, roughly a 60/40 split, not the 2 to 1 noted above), regardless of skin color and regardless of relative representation in the population. A life is a life.

Then go protest. Saying all lives matter to communities who banded together demanding justice for the (unjust) deaths of the people who mattered to them is like saying to a family who started an organization for breast cancer because of a lost family member that “testicular cancer victims matter”!

How does saying “breast cancer victims matter” take away from the fact that testicular cancer victims matter? It doesnt! So it is human nature, and very logical, to be offended by people’s outrage when other people who were fine with the loss of 600 white lives all of a sudden not only want to raise that point but tell hurting people that they should fight for the white community as well as yours!!

All saying ‘all loves matter’ is doing is causing needless arguments about race and distracting people from the real issue!

And while you’re at it… maybe it’s worth research why 10% of the population make up 40% of the (violent) crimes…

Or black people can stop breaking the law at such a disproportional rate when compared to whites. Easy solution: Don’t break the law or act suspiciously and the police won’t bother you. Pretty easy concept to comprehend right?

The largest group of any race is murdered by the same race, the variation is only 6% from the highest to the lowest. Stop citing bull shit and calling it a legitimate argument just because it fits your narrative.

You’re actually guilty of the same thing in this post that you derided in the last post. It’s true that approximately 83% of white people are murdered by other white people. It’s also true that 90% of black people are killed by other black people. That said, because black people only make up 13% of the population, the fact that they commit (approximately) 17% of the murders of white people as opposed to white people making up 75% of the population and committing 10% of black murders (roughly) is statistically significant. In fact, if black people murdered white people with the same relative frequency, we’d see roughly 2% of white murders committed by black people, as opposed to a whopping (over representative) 17%. Your “most people are killed by people of the same race” argument completely falls apart when you look at the relative percentage of the population and use the assumption that everyone is equally capable of being a murderer. Base rate fallacy.

Blacks are what percentage of the population? I believe it was 10. Which means whites ate about 85%. So letd put this into perspective, if the American population was 100 people that would be 10 blacks and 85 whites. In what world are there to be more or equal deaths per racial group when the ratio in the population is 8.5:1? In other word, if it was just a matter of police brutality and these (accidental) deaths were not racially influenced there would be 8.5 times as many white deaths as there are black deaths.

That sir is why people feeel like it is worth mentioning that black lives matter. Because statistically speaking, we are being used for target practice!
