But just the fact that you can have an EBT card and still eat out like this proves that we are all doing it wrong. I’ve never run up a $630 tab at a steak house before, but it sure looks like fun. Must be nice to have zero worries like this.

Spend your money at nice restaurants
Sell your ice to people who are down on their lucky with the ladies
Never, ever, ever get a job
Don’t BUY drugs. Sell them.
Do whatever this means:
Do NOT jump in on Big O’s tracks
Invest in weight loss diets
Be a good role model
Never stop rappin
Take it easy on the partying
Be economical with your habits
And the next thing you know you’ll be an unemployed millionaire.
For the record I don’t even care that this guy is doing this. His Facebook page is actually pretty funny. He’s not the problem. He’s just playing the hand in front of him and getting the most out of it. And why wouldn’t he? Like I said, you’d kind of be a sucker not to. The real dooshnozzle here is Jim McGovern and every other person who is resistant to any sort of EBT reform because they accuse you of picking on poor people. Turtleboy wants poor people to get assistance from the government if they’re using it as a stepping stone to self-reliance. And there are lots of people using EBT for that purpose. But the fact of the matter is that under the current system you can also use EBT to subsidize grown, abled bodied rappers who make their money under the table, eat steak dinners in Boston, and don’t pay an income tax. Just sayin.

First anyone accepting welfare gets drug tested. Second if you accept welfare then you work for it. Third anyone testing positive (except for prescription drugs) on their drug test, permanent removal from the welfare roles. Fourth fraudulent use of an EBT card, permanent removal from the welfare roles. Last but not least , STOP VOTING FOR THE DEMOCRATS!

First of all, drug tests for welfare recipients were proven to do nothing, but waste money. Second, most who do “drugs” on welfare smoke pot which is now legal for medicinal use in many states, but not all – making unequal rights. Proposing that everyone on welfare caught doing drugs be restricted from ever receiving it again means they would be penalized for medical treatments in one state and not another. Doing so also creates a situation of tyranny in which no person can ever gain back their rights. People who cleaned up, helped others and have changed the world would not have been able to do so if they hadn’t been given a second chance. Also, that would not apply to children of those caught. The children would still receive these benefits, and through them, so would their parents. This is exactly the case now and is the exact same way that people get to live off of child support instead of working. Child support is MUCH more often abused than the welfare system. Taking rights away and never being allowed to get them back no matter what is unconstitutional. It provides a route to prosecuting a person twice for the same crime and is equivalent to double jeopardy.

does the money saved by putting tighter regulations on EBT abuse outweigh the costs to regulate it? I’m honestly not sure – hence the question. I would imagine it to be quite expensive to create a new angency, or bolster an existing one, and then pay staff to be tighter with all MA residents who use it though.

It depends on the regulation you are trying to implement. Removing steak houses from the list of places that take EBT cards shouldn’t cost much. Personally I don’t think restaurants in general should be allowed to take EBT cards. As for a new agency, I think the current one just needs a better way of following up on applicants.
Restaurants are NOT allowed. Prepared foods from grocery and convenience stores are also not eligible. The fraud we read about is most often from independent grocery or c-stores that CAN sell EBT-worthy product that also find ways to make restaurant dinner, cigarettes, even cash back look like groceries on the receipts. Unless Abe and Louie’s also sells cans or corn or sodas to take home and found a way to skirt the system that way, then the pic is not depicting fraud.

Time to get rid of the welfare offices and make only workfare. You either fill out your tax return and get credits based on your total income and how many minor children you have, or you don’t get anything! It would save the taxpayers a lot of money rather than paying the salaries and benefits of welfare clerks.

In fact most felony cases would be pleas out with the permanent removal of the criminal from the welfare rolls instead of a lengthy prison sentence .

As a working family, living paycheck to paycheck, I’m fn sick to death of paying for people who can’t or won’t carry their own weight. Welfare (in all its many forms) is meant to be a temporary safety net, not a cradle to grave, multi-generational life support. The system needs to be tightened, NOW.
I like the Ray Mariano school of thought when he ran the Worcester Housing Authority regarding lazy residents in government subsidized housing that is supposed to be temporary:
Essentially If you are not actively pursuing an education, job skill training or gainfully employed to better yourself demonstrating an effort to be self reliant and resourceful, then bye bye. See ya. Go away.

None of it makes any sense Turtleboy. Just think about it, you can walk into a McDonalds in downtown Boston and get a frappe for two bucks but news center five says an apartment in Boston is $1700 a week and the employees make $7.00 an hour.
Minimum wage is $10, so I doubt they’re making $7.
