Berkshire Eagle: A 50-year-old Westborough woman allegedly took matters into her own mouth when told her son wouldn’t be able to take a scheduled driver’s test Thursday morning. Ilyse Levine-Kanji is accused of biting the forearm of a driving instructor and threatening to stab him with his own pen before fleeing the scene, according to police. According to witnesses, Levine-Kanji and her 18-year-old son arrived at the Registry of Motor Vehicles for the test around 11 a.m. The instructor deemed it was unsafe for Levine-Kanji’s son to take the test and said he wouldn’t be allowed to do so. The report does not specify the reason for refusing the test.
Levine-Kanji asked the instructor to reconsider and allow her son to take the test. When he again refused, Levine-Kanji allegedly grabbed a pen from the instructor’s shirt and raised it above her head and brought it down in an apparent stabbing motion, according to the instructor. When he grabbed her arm to prevent being stuck with the pen, Levine-Kanji allegedly bit him on the forearm, causing lacerations, police said. She and her son then got back in their vehicle and drove off. The vehicle was stopped on the Massachusetts Turnpike by state police and she was placed under arrest.
She was arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court before Judge William Rota and pleaded not guilty to charges of assault with a dangerous weapon (pen) and assault and battery.
Wait….she’s from Westborough and she brought her son to Goddamn Pittsfield to take the driver’s test? That’s a 2 hour freaking car ride!!!
If I drove my 18 year old kid two hours to take his driver’s test and then he wasn’t even allowed to take the test, I would strongly consider biting someone too. Not saying I would, just that it would be strongly considered. Plus, when you factor in the lines and the surly middle aged women who are apparently the only kind of people that the DMV hires, how can you not stab someone with a pen and bite them?
LOL. Just kidding. Kind of. This lady is clearly insane. Gotta feel bad for the kid (18 year old). His Mom has probably been the crazy, overbearing Mom his whole life. Plus, let’s look at the facts here. The kid is 18 years old and doesn’t have his driver’s license. She could’ve gone to a million and one DMV’s closer to her, but she chose the one on the New York state border. Why? More than likely because she and her kid are blacklisted at every other DMV and she assumed they didn’t have computers in Pittsfield. She’s probably gotta drive her adult son everywhere and she’s getting sick of it. So she spent four hours driving him out there, only to find out that they have wifi there too and they found out he was on the “do not give him a license” list. This was her breaking point.
And by looking at this woman’s Facebook page she shows no signs of being a nutjob. As a matter of fact she seems like your typical Westboro resident – well written and really, really involved in everything:

Ya got that? A woman who violently tried stabbing a guy with a pen and then bit him thinks that guns are the reason we have violence. I guess by her logic we should ban pens and teeth as well. After all, they can be used as weapons to hurt people too.
Anyway, I assume Westborough is gonna have a town meeting about this. I feel like it’s one of those towns where you can just vote someone off the island if they mess with your property value. And there is already a designated place for people who drive to Pittsfield to bite a DMV instructor – Spencer.

She is obviously unstable herself and should not have a license. Imagine her road rage readiness. Just a ticking time bomb. She knows how dangerous and that is why she is so against guns, she’s afraid she will get one to extract vengeance to those who wrong her.

Just as a side note: It is not unheard of for an 18 year old to NOT have their license. Driver’s Ed is very expensive and not everyone can afford it. After you turn 18, completing drivers ed is not a requirement. And the cost of auto insurance for Teens is mind boggling.
Second note: I know several teens on the autism spectrum that have their driver’s license and are fully capable. However, it can and will be challenging for others.
It eludes me as to why this mother INSISTS that her son (who is on the spectrum) acquires a drivers license?? As a parent, I would think they would want to consider the safety of their child as well as other drivers. However, we do not know the reason why he was denied by the DMV.
I work in westborough and know this woman as a customer… This is glorious.

A google search of her name shows A LOT of defense of her autistic son Sam. “Sam has to work incredibly hard to learn things that us “neurotypicals” take for granted”. So, the instructor didn’t feel safe with Sam driving. And she couldn’t take no for an answer.

Her son is severely autistic and a bit of a savant. He remembers everyone he meets birthday. Even if you see him 3 years later, he will remember your birthday. I hope to god he wasn’t the one trying to get the driving test

I have not met him, but I am knowledgeable about autism. If he was severely autistic (as you incorrectly labeled), he would not be in mainstream school or be able to drive at all. Severe would be very low functioning and require a great deal of support/care as far as life skills (getting dressed, going to bathroom, eating, etc.) and likely not able to verbally communicate.

This boy is NOT severely autistic. He may have quite a few difficulties, but he most likely will be able to function in society in the future.

Every, single person who is on the autism spectrum has a different degree of severity (as far as symptoms/difficulties). And no two people will have the exact same symptoms/difficulties. And they all require very specific interventions based on their own personal symptoms/difficulties. One intervention may work for one, but not another. That’s what makes this disorder quite complex.

I am in no way sticking up for this one particular person, but for people on the autism spectrum in general. Autism is a very misunderstood disorder.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. He referenced severe autism with a savant. Two opposite sides of the spectrum.
The registry sucks. It can take weeks of going on to their web site every day to even SCHEDULE an appointment, and you have to take what you can get. I had to take my nephew to Greenfield from the Worcester area because after a month that was the ONLY appointment available in all of Massachusetts (it was a cancellation). While I don’t condone her biting the registry examiner, they are very obnoxious about refusing to allow the test to be taken if they don’t like modern car features which are becoming increasingly common. I’ve spoken to my state rep about it and of course he did nothing.

This is the same sweetheart who attacked a woman at a public pool a few years ago. She lost a relative and blames it on the gun rather than her own families’ obvious violent tendencies. Concern yourself with yourself lady…..my guns have hurt fewer people than you have lady.
My guess is, the kid can’t drive (or do much of anything on his own, because Mommy Dearest always does for him). Probably failed a bunch of times, so she took him to Pittsfield where there is far less traffic and thinks it’ll be an easier road test. And when her cub got denied, Momma Bear lost her shit.
