Race hoaxes are all the rage these days, now that the reality that President-Elect Trump will in fact be President of the United States on January 20. The latest incident comes from the lovely town of Natick, MA. A man named Andrew Provost posted this letter he allegedly received on his Facebook page:
I wanted to share the letters that were put into my mailbox by apparently one of my neighbors on Maple street in Natick over the last three days. My heart and my deepest feelings of right/wrong and basic civility have been challenged by these two letters attached. Being a white man and never having personally experienced this kind of racial bigotry I am truly humbled and angered and ashamed by what is still present in our world today. I was brought up to not see color in my communities that were mostly white. My parents have always had many friends of color and taught me to be very excepting of every culture and difference in man/womankind. To me I am so deeply offended and worried for all of us. How have we come so far and yet we still have this kind of hatred?
It is my intention to make this public and go to the TV stations within a couple days. I need to speak with my housemates before I do this to make sure they are comfortable with what I’m about to do. I have zero tolerance for this kind of behavior and of course the Natick Police are 100% behind me in investigating this horrendous action. I’m not even sure how this will end up. But I can tell you that I am 100% committed to stepping forward and bringing this person to justice. To changing people’s viewpoints one day at a time. If anyone has any thoughts or experience please share. We must stand together and never allow this to happen to anyone.
Alright first of all, this guy sucks at explaining. First of all, as you can see, he is a full-fledged white dude. So the fact that he’s on the receiving end of alleged racial threats requires a little background story for the viewers, since this post has gone semi-viral. Check out this note again:
Notice the terrible spelling. This was obviously intentionally done in order to make the imaginary person who wrote it look like some sort of ignorant, backwoods Trump voter. The person writing it can’t spell simple words like “of” and “loser,” but they can spell more complicated words like “neighborhood.”
It also says that he “fucks Latinos, now you fuck n words.” Yet he gives people no explanation why someone would write such a thing. Based on his Facebook profile pictures though it appears as if he dated and lived with a Latina woman:
Ain’t nothing wrong with that!!
But according to a more recent Facebook post, he claims she moved out, but they’re staying together. He also says that he has ANOTHER “housemate” who is staying with him” who is allegedly of Ugandan descent:
Alright, so this doesn’t make any sense. The Latina girlfriend is moving out, but he’s still with her, and now he has this other female roommate who now lives with him and happens to be black? Sure, whatever you say.
But he actually wants us to believe that he hasn’t told the black woman who still lives with him that this note was left in his mailbox? Multiple times? He didn’t think that was something that should be brought to her attention? Instead he brags about how he’s going to write a Facebook post that was clearly intended to go viral, and bring this to the news. Because she’ll never find out if that happens.
And it worked!! Right on cue the Boston Globe wrote about the “hate crime”:
A Natick man said he has received threatening letters demanding that he not bring black people to visit his neighborhood, citing the election of Donald Trump as evidence that “we have reclaimed our country,” according to police, who are investigating the incident as a possible hate crime.
“We have reclaimed our country by selecting Trump and you are now messing up every thing,” one letter read. “Natick has a zero tolerance for black people,” it said.
There has been a rash of similar incidents nationwide in the days following Trump’s election. In an interview with “60 Minutes,” the president-elect said he had been unaware of such activity, and urged the perpetrators to stop.
I mean, just read some of the language in this letter:
Natick has zero tolerance for black people? Natick is a wealthy, progressive, liberal town. This doesn’t even remotely sound like something that one of his “neighbors” would have ever written.
As a white guy, Andrew Provost could never be the victim of anti-black racism. But since he dated a Latina woman, and he now has a black “housemate” he gets to finally play the victim card. And he’s loving every minute of his new found Facebook fame. But unfortunately with his new celebrity status he has to warn people not to come to his house asking for autographs:
Your neighbor is concerned about her privacy because you made up a story like this? How rude of her!!
It’s OK though. He has plenty of soup and martinis to make him feel better:
And look what his hoax got the Natick Public Schools to do:
After seeing the Facebook post, Natick Superintendent Peter Sanchioni and school leaders wrote to the school community, condemning the offensive statements and assuring students that such attitudes would not be tolerated.
“I’m shocked, totally shocked. I’ve never seen anything like this in the Natick community. It’s a place we’ve been proud of, to say that we’ve always been ahead of the curve,” Sanchioni said in an interview.
The superintendent said schools will continue to provide support for students who are affected by the election and by any other incidents.
“We stand at the ready to ensure that no person will be mistreated, discriminated against, or excluded based on gender, race, class, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, learning style, abilities, or political party,” the school leaders wrote in their message.
“The schools will CONTINUE to provide support for students who are affected by the election.”
What the hell is wrong with these people? If you’re affected by the results of an election you need to stop being such a pussy and get rid of that sad space because no one outside of your insulated bubble feels bad for you. This is going on at schools and colleges all across the country. The taxpayers are paying for counselors to help kids get through the historic election of a Washington outsider whose opponent had the endorsements of every celebrity and every major bank in the United States.
Look, do we know for a fact that this is a hoax? Of course not. But we have to use common sense and call it like we see it. And the vast majority of people who look at this fairly will come to the conclusion that the guy is lying. We’ve seen time and time again in the last few days that people have ZERO problem making up fake instances of racism, because they want attention and like being victims.
