Yesterday we shared this photo on the Facebook machine from the Worcester State “free college” rally:

12246968_1678696159043035_7958450081990682077_n-2

Then we heard form a couple people about the kid who is second from the right, standing next to the Sunshine Kid revolutionary. This student’s name is Nicholas Wursta Doherty graduate and WSU sophomore. Why do we care? It’s just kind of funny because as it turns out Nick’s Dad Karl is a professor of Computer Science at Worcester State:

You know what that means right? It means he goes to school there for free. Ya got that? This kid right here,

Screen Shot 2015-11-13 at 3.50.48 PM

is protesting college tuition being too high, and he’s not paying a dime in tuition. You can’t make this shit up. Jonathan Butler, Keely Mullen, Nicholas Wurst, the Sunshine Kid. It’s like they go out of their way to find the most ridiculous spokesperson possible. This might be the most hilarious hippie story we’ve ever seen yet. Hey Nick, you probably haven’t thought about this yet, but if no one is paying for college tuition then how is your Dad gonna get paid and buy you a new pair of tapered jeans?

Boom. Mind blown.

But please, let’s keep giving into their hilarious “demands.”

I don’t really understand the criticism here. Why is it so ridiculous that he would support free tuition for everyone else? Just because he wouldn’t directly benefit?

What if I started an organization to fund cancer research? Would you write an expose on me with all my facebook photos, telling everyone about how I don’t even have cancer?

hey hippie i went to college for free…because i worked my ass off during high school and got a full scholarship (tuition and fees) while working a full time job from the day i turned 16..you could try that. I also don’t understand why they are protesting for free tuition when it is the fees and books that are most expensive. The Adams scholarship only covers tutition, which when i went to fsc was about $700. its the $3500 in fees and $800 of books that they should be worried about

Education is not a right though. That’s my problem. Even public education is not a right. It’s a privilege to even have public education. Public education funded through taxes only exists because our elected representatives have decided that levying those taxes is for the common good. I happen to agree here, especially in a Democratic society where we all vote – a minimum level of education for voters makes sense.

Making something a right means that you can force a professor out of bed to educate you, or else they are infringing on your rights. Sounds absurd but that’s what a right means. They should be arguing that a college education for everyone benefits the common good. Which I don’t agree with.

But should education be an economic privilege? I don’t think everyone has the right to go to school, but surely if they display the talent and ability finances should not be the determining factor.

“Part of a MOVEMENT”? This is a MOVEMENT??!! No, this is no movement, this is a group of kids being conned by communist malcontents who are bent on destroying this once great nation through pure socialism, political correctness and a warm embrace of islam. It needs to be stopped BEFORE we’re the Europe BHO and the fake indian dream about.

I went to school with Nick and rowed with him. Sure, he doesn’t pay for tuition – but neither do I, because of the John and Abigail Adams scholarship (which he is eligible for). He is a good student with a pretty decent head on his shoulders, and he has payed for tuition at another institution that was more than he could afford – so here he is getting an education, and working as part of a movement that looks to extend that opportunity that he has to others.

Turtleboy, can’t you at least agree that kids who can go to college should have the opportunity to go? Or do you want more sheep for page clicks and ad revenue?

Hey – Fuck you – you lazy little assholes. I paid for my undergrad and BOTH of my MA’s through student loans. Yes, it took a long time to pay off albeit, but it was worth it and I never felt like I got anything for free like you little fucking assholes are trying to do. Get a fucking life!

Ah yes, let’s compare ourselves to the oh-so enlightened and sophisticated socialist European model. You mean, like Greece? No problems there… Tax rates through the roof but what the hell, someone else needs to pay for all my free shit and I know the federal government can do a sooo much better job with education, just like public schools. Hmmm, I wonder why those with means send their kids to private schools? Maybe they can do for colleges what they’ve done with the VA, health care, social security, etc… It’s all about money and power under the guise of whatever the cause du jour might be and keeping those addicted to all the free shit to keep voting for those who promise to keep providing said free shit while blaming the achievers in society as having an unfair advantage in life. It’s NOT the government’s responsibility, or anyone else’s to take care of everyone, take responsibility for yourself, grow up and become self sufficient. If you don’t succeed, it’s on you and no one else. This is the result of “Everyone gets a trophy” syndrome. Thanks a lot.

Definitely a real classy move by Turtleboy to go steal Nicks Facebook photos and make fun of him on a personal level. This is why Turtleboy is not a real news source.

I hope if the hippies get the legislature to pass a bill for free college tuition they include a paragraph to retroactively pay for those who have already graduated. I can’t wait for that check! Oh wait, they would have to understand how a bill is filled, talk to their elected officials without shouting them down, and understand what a big word like retroactively means. I’m not very hopeful though, because it is apparent that they don’t teach much beyond protesting, posting on Facebook, and solving the world problems through hashtags.

Tuition and fees at the state colleges and universities is plenty low enough, especially now since it is clear these layabouts have no interest in learning to think critically, they just want a “safe” and “sheltered” place. Plus how many more unemployed gender studies majors do we need.

      “Plenty low enough?”

My kid attends Fitchburg State, lives on campus and we’re billed $8,900 per semester. $4300 of that is housing and meal plan. I don’t know what your finances are like but for us, that’s a lot of money.

Actually, “tuition” alone is pretty cheap from what I can tell. It’s the fees for student organizations, the cost of housing and food, and the damn books that cause kids to drop out. The books cost so much that there’s a thriving market for them even when they’re used, which has led to vans of used-book buying companies parked out on Chandler St. at the end of every semester. The kids are lining up to get some of their hard-won cash back so they can afford to buy some books next semester. I wonder how much of a kickback the profs. get for requiring certain books.

All those additional costs are also the reason that some kids who get free tuition from the John and Abigail Adams Scholarships choose not to go to state schools. Those kids are usually so smart that they can get better deals from better colleges. If you’re gonna have to pay the money anyway, might as well pay it to a higher-tier school.

TB, I am not sure if you are aware, but public schools are free, and they are made to be so through taxation.

People are literally suggesting the same thing with college. Just like in Europe. You know, that place with the more valuable currency, higher GDP, lower homicide rate, and higher rate of graduating scientists?

But that’s none of my business.

before you do that, if the PC crowd truly had a heart for justice, they would formulate a plan make reparations then for all the people who go screwed with having to pay for overpriced tuition before any of that would be possible… with all that time in their hands, I would imagine they of all people ought to come up with a functional solution. Oh wait, that takes work..

Higher unemployment (some countries), more socialism, excuses about not enough freebies and paid vacations used as fodder for terrorist attacks…
Yep – three big old cheers for Europe.

Free K-12 public education isn’t considered a great thing by everyone…thus the increase in other educational options. Imagine how “wonderful” universities and colleges would be if they, too, became totally free and government run.

If one can make $15/hour as a student worker at a college, why bother with the education? +/- $31,000 annual pay with no degree…of course, maybe that is the plan for these hippies: three hots, a cot and $31K a year while supposedly being a “student worker.”

BTW- If any of this doesn’t have enough “logical reasoning or evidence for disagreement,” feel free to blame my Worcester State education…which I paid for by working in the dreaded private sector while going to school.
