USA Today: Hillary Clinton, campaigning here Wednesday with Sen. Bernie Sanders, worked to sway millennial voters by promoting a plan to make public college tuition-free for working families. In a University of New Hampshire gym packed with students, Clinton sought to connect with those facing sometimes insurmountable college debt. Clinton said that when she graduated from college herself, she repaid her loans as a percentage of her income, which allowed her to take a low-paying public service job with the Children’s Defense Fund. Clinton noted that New Hampshire has the highest proportion of students with debt and the second-highest average debt per student. She said she aims to make public colleges and universities tuition-free for families earning less than $125,000 per year, to make community college free, and to help students refinance their college debt.

I love free shit. Who is gonna pay for the cost of running a major public university? Doesn’t matter. Stop asking stupid questions. We have politicians promising idiotic 19 year olds free shit here. We don’t have time for reason, logic, or rational questions.

But seriously, how hard is Hillary Clinton trying to suck of Bernie’s government giveaway tits? Young people hate Hillary Cllinton. She’s only in the position she’s in now because they don’t vote. Hillary Clinton is elected by old white women who wanna see one of their own in the Oval Office before they croak. And Hill-Dawg knows that the only way she can please these dolts is by promising them free shit.

And where did they come up with that $125,000 figure? Newsflash – if your family’s combined income is $120,000 a year, they can afford to pay for your state school. If they can’t then you take out loans, apply for work study, or use your parent’s savings to pay for tuition. If your parents don’t have any savings because they’ve been living outside of their means your entire life, then the problem isn’t the high cost of college, it’s your irresponsible parents.

So what happens if your combined income is $126,000? Did we think that one through? So if I make $1,000 more per year than my neighbor, then I have to pay full tuition while he gets to send his kids to school for free? Yea, that makes sense. So what you’re gonna have is a bunch of people finding ways to waste money by the end of the year so they can qualify for the free tuition give away come tax season. Brilliant.

I love stuff like this too:

No one should ever have to borrow money to pay for goods and services. Why? Because…..we said so. And it makes us feel good to say that.

Anyone who thinks you shouldn’t have to borrow money to go to college is a moron. College is an investment in your future. It costs money. If you don’t think you’re going to leave college with a degree that can help you make more money than someone without a degree, then don’t waste your time and money on going to college. It’s perfectly fine if you don’t go to college. Plenty of people start their own business or learn trades and do better than people who graduate with degrees in Women’s Studies from Hampshire College.

This Turtleboy is in his 30’s, and he’s still paying back loans every month. In hindsight we should’ve just started this blog back in ought four instead of wasting time getting a college degree. But then again I got a four year party vacation out of it and I learned how to write. When I write that check to ACS student loans every month I think about all the Keystone Lights, lifelong friendships, and beautiful girls I met in college, and I don’t feel so bad because I’m paying for something that I actually enjoyed and got something out of.

Anyway, it’s pretty hilarious that these idiot college kids are still following Bernie around after he completely sold them out. Everything Bernie did was for nothing. Everything. Ultimately he knew he was going to lose the entire time, and he got all these morons to give him money so he could build his personal brand. Two years ago he was an irrelevant nobody Senator from a state no one cares about. Now he’s the Bern.

The only Bernie people keeping it real are these amazing angry chicks we met in Philadelphia when we hung out with protesters all day outside the DNC:

Bernie talked a big game about a crooked system and Washington insiders, but when push came to shove he ended up throwing his full support behind this two party system and the Washington insiders. And it worked perfectly because all these idiots are still following him, and they’re all gonna vote for Hillary just like they said they’d never do. More than likely Bernie took a nice little under the table pay off to bring his band of lemmings to Hillary. He got paid twice and you all fell for it. Nice going morons.

Back in the old days you actually had to be smart to go to college. Every college required good SAT scores. My grandparents (both sets) never went to college, nor my father did. They did ok. Now it seems like you need a 4-yr. degree to clean a toilet! Both my grandfathers were WWII vets, and they wouldn’t recognize today’s USA.

I think the Feds should get out of Education (except for patriotism), even abolishing the student loan program. The Federal student loans for colleges are like Section 8 for landlords: these gov’t vouchers have inflated education and rental housing.

When an 18-yr. old signs his name away for unlimited financial aid, upon enrollment We the Taxpayers are sending the check directly to the school. The college pretty much has the guaranteed money under the conditions the Dept. of Ed. sets. Often times the conditions for colleges accepting Federal aid include these “diversity” programs and Title IX officers, which cost money, hence the higher bill.

The same works for Section 8. I was told by a property owner that Section 8 vouchers are only 2/3 of the rent paid by the Feds, and HUD is actually leasing the units, not the tenants. Any landlord who accepts Section 8 vouchers doesn’t have any say in who lives in them. The most prime example is that a single person cannot rent a 3 BR Section 8-subsidized apartment. Section 8 was started as an alternative to building housing projects which became so expensive.

This explains why most people living in Boston are on it: once the landlords started taking the vouchers they inflated the rents. A $1500 apt. normally would cost $1000 years ago.

Free college would make sense if it was just for majors whose name doesn’t end with the word “studies”

Everyone seems to want something for free. Free college. Free housing. Free food.

Next they will make upscale restaurants offer free food and drinks for those who claim they cannot afford it.

Nothing is free in life. All that happens is the cost is passed onto someone else in the form of higher taxes and use fees, or they are charged more for the same thing in order to subsidize others.

It’s simple: If you’re poor and black. you don’t get to go to college. Sorry not sorry.

Why give education away for free? Military service, teacher’s colleges and other quid pro quo arrangements worked in the past.

Oh yeah, paying debts is unfair!

Let’s not forget the fools that pay community colleges to earn GEDs or to take remedial classes to learn things they should have picked up for free in high school. But let’s give it to them for “free” on the backs of taxpayers so they can waste another few years of their lives.

I’m pretty sure all that was promised was ‘free tuition.’ Tuition at state schools now, for in-state students, is only like $500-$1,000 per semester. Nothing to sneeze at, but the cost is really in the fees, etc. That’s how they get around it. The line item for tuition is a small cost compared to the total expense of college when all of the fees are added in. Right? I mean, did anyone else pick up on this or am I wrong?

If that’s the case, this whole thing is just a marketing ploy with no real substance.

They already do this for smart students in Massachusetts via the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship.

In order to be eligible for the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship, Massachusetts public high school students must:

      – score at the Advanced performance level on one of the three high school state assessment tests in ELA, Mathematics, or STE (Biology, Chemistry, Introductory Physics, or Technology/Engineering); and

      – score at the Proficient level or higher on the remaining two high school state assessment tests; and

      – have combined scores from the three tests that place them in the top 25 percent of students in the graduating class in their district.

There’s a large list of Massachusetts State Colleges and Universities that Accept the Adams Scholarship.

      INCENTIVES for smart students.

    How about
    – lowering the overall cost of college (do professors need to be paid that much?)
    – eliminating useless degrees that have little prospect of jobs in the future
    – giving more merit grants to students with a high GPA (incentive to do well). Low GPA in high school, give those students more incentive to learn a trade (trade schools take much less time to complete).

Average cost per year for state college in Mass is $24-30k; private is around 50k

For those families that have little to no savings, total loans will be over $100k for a 4-year college. Hopefully, it will be a major that can produce a decent paying job upon graduation. Choose wisely.

A big reason for the high cost is that the gov’t gives away college loans like candy. Instead of loans the gov’t could help sponsor work-study type things with companies who hire the students after graduation while they learn things needed for the job the company wants them to do.

      • Mediocrity
        September 29, 2016 at 4:06 pm

It would be hard to get companies to do this – and I would not blame them for balking. How many students do you know that changed their major because they were unhappy and didn’t like what they were doing?? No way would I invest in a student while they are in college; too much of a risk.

For trade schools I would agree that companies could handle a sponsorship, because students need to complete their internship for “X” amount of hours after trade school completion.

There needs to be an accountability for WHY colleges are raising their tuition dramatically. We know it’s because a college can easily get this money via government grants. But who is watching the money till for the government? And WHY should a college accept a student with a low GPA that can get 100% government grants vs. NOT accepting a smart student with a high GPA, because they need to take out loans?? Because colleges know it’s easy money for them. And tons of the low GPA students with govt grants drop out, or switch majors, or switch schools because they are frustrated with falling behind academically. What a waste of money.

Obviously you either did not go to college or your parents gave you a free ride because tuition is a minor aspect of the overall cost of college. It does not cover all fees. She is not saying she will make college free. Only eliminate the tuition fee.

    • kingsraisins
      September 29, 2016 at 3:21 pm

Exactly. I posted below before I saw this. I thought I was going crazy to be one of the only people that seemingly understood this. In state tuition costs next to nothing now. The real cost is hidden in the fees, etc. It’s just a good talking point for her. So at the end of the day, even if she somehow manages to pass this into legislation it will just be in the form of a tax deduction for an additional, what, like $500-$1,000 a year for a family? I’m not saying that’s chump change, but by the way these kids are reacting you would think they are under the impression that the government is going to be paying the entire bill, which is not the case at all.

The state college TUITION is like $500. The fees are $12,000. So instead of 12,500, college will be $12,000. Its not a LIE to say tuition will be free, but she is saying you shouldn’t go into debt to pay for college, but $48,000 WILL put a lot of average folks in debt. Its the same lie the Mass public schools pull – earn high MCAS scores and you can attend state college for “free”, ie, no TUITION ($500 savings only). She’s only pandering for votes from people who don’t know any better.

    • Hugh Beaumont
      September 29, 2016 at 3:24 pm

No shit. They make tuition look cheaper with bigger “fees” so they can rake in more money because many scholarships only cover tuition. It’s a scam. Colleges have become bloated with non-faculty, like the gov’t. Making college or tution free isn’t going to fix or solve anything. Nothing is “free”.

Exactly ! Just looked at Worcester state and room and board and fees close to $15000 year I’m sure there will be no extra money in grants etc if you are already getting free tuition. So the free collegr still going to cost about $60000 for 4 years.

There is currently income driven repayment available for student loans… You only pay 10-20% of your DISCRETIONARY income, which when youre living way above your means can be 0$ a month and it counts as a payment when counting the months until forgiveness. That’s good enough IMO

Good to know that these uber-liberal overpaid college professors are going to be willing to forfeit thier salaries and now work for free! And the support staffs will now volunteer too. Welll, its either that or the biggest tax increase you ever saw! Which is it?
