Fox 25 News: An Athol couple is warning other drivers after they say their car was pushed off the road in an apparent road-rage crash Friday night. Stacy and Joseph Schweitzer were heading home from dinner on Rte. 2 in Athol near Exit 18, around 10:30 p.m., when they say a truck began tailgating them on the single-lane stretch of highway. Stacy says she slowed down and the truck struck them the first time, and then twice more.
“I pushed on my brakes to let him know he’s following too close, and next thing I know, I told my husband, ‘He’s going to hit me,’” Stacy said. “And that’s when he hit me once. Then as I went further, he hit me again. So I went to turn into the break-down lane, and that’s when he hit the side of me and sent me off the side of the road.”
The Schweitzers’ car smashed into a barrier and nearly flipped, the front bumper falling off.
“[I’m] screaming, holding onto the brake, trying to get the car to stop,” Stacy said. “When I got out, I had to sit on the ground for a little bit, because I was really dizzy and just couldn’t walk at that moment, very shaken up about what just happened.”
Joseph called 911, and State Police responded but were not able to locate the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle.
“He shut his headlights off,” Joseph said. “So once we spun around… I looked to see if I could see the truck, and all his tail lights, everything were off. [I] couldn’t read the license plate or anything like that.”
The Schweitzers were only able to tell police the vehicle appeared to be a dark-colored pick-up truck. State Police tell Boston 25 News investigating the case is difficult without a more specific description of the truck.
Just to review what allegedly happened here.
- They were driving 60 mph on Route 2 when a truck hit them not once, not twice, but three times
- The truck that was tailgating them decided to turn their lights off for no apparent reason
- When they finally pulled over (after being hit 3 times) the truck decided to sideswipe them too
- After that they hit the jersey barrier, the bumper fell off, and somehow drove on 2 wheels before she got the car down and “landed” in the middle of the highway without flipping over
- They don’t know anything about the truck that hit them besides the fact that it’s a dark colored pickup truck
I’m no car expert, but it would seem that if a truck smashed into their bumper THREE TIMES, going 60 mph, at least one of the vehicles would crash from that. Unless of course this was a stunt driver looking to fuck up some innocent people for absolutely no reason. Does this look like a bumper that was hit going 60 mph, three times?
My bumper looks worse than that just from parallel parking.
Now this is just me spitballing my opinions right now, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say none of this ever happened. Maybe, just maybe, the dude had a little much to drink, hit something, and then they said the chick was driving when the cops go there. Maybe.
They also hadn’t filed a claim with their insurance company days after the crash.
Conveniently the guy turned his lights off so they couldn’t get his plates. Plus they were dizzy from all the spinning and driving on two wheels.
Oh, and also no injuries whatsoever because….angels.
But they found a post on Facebook from someone in Rhode Island who also got hit by a truck, so it must’ve been the same guy.
According to a friend Stacy and Joe should’ve told the state police about “the other girl” because it “would’ve helped get your car fixed with insurance.” But the MSP told her she wasn’t allowed to mention this “other girl” on TV because “they can get in trouble.”
Yea, there’s nothing shady about this story whatsoever.
