MassliveAfter news Wednesday that the driver in the crash that killed Trooper Thomas Clardy was allegedly under the influence of medical marijuana, the head of the Commonwealth Dispensary Association issued a statement condemning those who drive while impaired.

“The Commonwealth Dispensary Association’s strongly held belief is that no one should be behind the wheel while impaired –€“ whether it be by alcohol, pharmaceuticals, medicinal cannabis or illicit drugs,” wrote Executive Director Kevin B. Gilnack in a statement issued late Wednesday.

David Njuguna, 30, of Webster, allegedly visited a medical marijuana dispensary and bought three marijuana cigarettes an hour before the crash on March 16 that killed Clardy. Prosecutors said during Njuguna’s arraignment on manslaughter charges Wednesday that an entire marijuana cigarette was missing and another was found half smoked in Njuguna’s car after the crash.

Reacting to the news that Njuguna may have smoked medical marijuana before the crash, Gov. Charlie Baker also issued a statement Wednesday reiterating his concerns about legalizing the substance for recreational use.

“Governor Baker has serious concerns about the negative effects associated with the proliferation of marijuana use as evidence shows that legalization leads to harm, especially among young people, and hopes the person responsible for this tragic incident is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Baker press secretary Lizzy Guyton said in an emailed statement.

“Along with a bipartisan group of public officials, the governor is working hard to oppose the legalization of marijuana that would lead to expanded use as the Commonwealth fights the deadly opioid and heroin epidemic,” she said.

Well that sucks. What a moron, making pot look bad for the rest of us. As soon as I saw that it was reported that he was high I KNEW Charlie Baker was gonna chime in and make this political. We like Charlie Baker on a lot of things, but this isn’t one of them. He is the definition of a square. Honestly, it’s 2016. Anyone who cares about weed anymore is a moron.

The more I think about it, the more I realize how low this is. A State Trooper and father of seven was killed and Charlie Baker sees it as an opportunity to push his bullshit agenda, knowing full well that outlawing weed would not have stopped this from happening. It’s a senseless tragedy, and it’s all the fault of this dooshnozzle:

Ciw7ITTVEAE2szi

But guess what? When you’re high, you don’t drive 81 mph. You drive 50. And you certainly don’t careen across three lanes of traffic, and then straighten your car out in the break down lane and aim directly at the parked state trooper. How can you not think this was intentional?

And Charlie Baker is using this tragedy to score political points. Guess what Charlie? People are gonna get high. That’s just the way of life. Normal, productive, contributing members of society smoke pot on a daily basis. If you use it safely and responsibly and you don’t drive while impaired, then what’s the harm?

Screen Shot 2016-01-18 at 4.54.34 PM

Charlie Baker is a fairly strong supporter of the second amendment, which makes him an even bigger hypocrite. He thinks people should be allowed to buy guns because responsible gun owners shouldn’t have their freedoms taken away because some people abuse guns. But he thinks pot should be banned for responsible pot smokers because some nudniks make stupid decisions while high. Yea, that makes sense.

Oh yea, and by this logic we should also ban booze, or anything that could impair your judgement behind the wheel of a car. After all, we have to assume that legalizing something means people are gonna consume it and automatically get behind the wheel of a car and slam into a parked car on the side of the highway. This is what Charlie Baker thinks people are dumb enough to believe.

And please, spare me the whole “gateway drug” bullshit. Ya know what the ultimate gateway drug is? Booze. At least 90% of people who are addicted to cigarettes (which actually kill you, unlike pot) started when they were drinking. That’s how it always starts. Then you smoke a little pot and most normal people stop there. But people who get addicted to opiates and heroin started by raiding their parents medicine cabinet, not by smoking blunts.

If we banned booze then pregnancies would be cut in half, ugly people would never get laid, and there would be no DUI’s. We should do that. Oh wait, we already tried banning booze and people kept drinking and doing all of those things anyway. At the end of the day it just made criminals rich. Because ultimately the thing that makes us American is the fact that we crave freedom. We LOVE the fact that we are responsible for our own destinies and we hate when the government treats us like children. The same standard for booze should be the standard for pot. Don’t drink and drive. Don’t smoke and drive.

Baker, should have kept his mouth shut on this one. Came across the wrong way completely. Plenty of other examples out-there, he can use. Not right !

Eric – I will not debate but I gotta share this one. When I was a yute back in the day I was hanging with my buddies in one of my buddy’s basement at his parent’s house that had a kitchen and pretty much was sound proof from the above floors. Ok so you already know where this one is going.

Anyway my buddy got this weed from somewhere I have no idea. It was definitely or maybe laced with something real fucking funky. So after some bong rips out comes the chocolate chip cookie dough. We decided to deem chocolate chip cookies a vegetable (change their status) so it seemed better more healthy for us. Suddenly we were Nutritionists or some dumb shit.

So we made the chocolate chip cookies into an Italian salad with bologna, friggin’ a couple different cheeses topped off with peanut butter and whatever else we could find.

After that here comes the freak out session. Fucking faces changing shape, voices going in slow motion and on and on and on. Last time I smoked and will never do it again. Well maybe never is a strong word.

Yeah laced weed is no joke. I have a buddy who unknowingly smoked some laced weed and it changed his life forever. He is not the same person he used to be. He freaked out and was sent to an institution. This is where recreational facilities will come into effect. You know you are getting some good stuff that is safe. And also the fact you will be able to choose the type of bud based on the experience you’d like.

Totally agree with that. Some times regulations are a good thing. And in this case yes. Good point.

TB is right. Nobody smoking weed is doing 81. Something else going on here besides the Carlie Baker agenda.

The police said they found half a marijuana cigarette on the floor of the car. Dude probably dropped it and while trying to pick it up, wasn’t paying attention to the road and this tragedy happened. All you on here who say using marijuana should continue to be illegal should really do some fact checking between that and the dangers of drinking alcohol. I’ve always said if I had to choose to give one up to use the other I’d be saying bye to the bottle. And please don’t get me started on the prescription drug usage and abuse. That’s a whole other ballfield. If anyone cares to debate please feel free. Cuz this is one debate I refuse to lose. PS… I have smoked weed for 5 years and have recently given it up in order to find a career. #notaddicting

Baker is right it’s better to drink and drive. Ted Kennedy showed all of mass.how much safer it is and was a senator til death. If your gonna kill someone at least use alcohol so you can invoke the Kennedy clause.

I know I’m in the minority but I’d see rather all drugs including alcohol be illegal. Only weak and insecure people need that stuff and they don’t need to procreate.

Politicians will never let a catastrophe go to waste if they can push their agenda with it.

    May 19, 2016 at 2:46 pm

Exactly. This isn’t a difficult thing to understand. I really can’t stand that Baker ALWAYS has to chime in about how he disagrees with marijuana legalization whenever he can – anyone who thinks pot is dangerous is just an idiot. Plain and simple. I don’t smoke pot anymore (sometimes on rare occasions) but I still sure as shit know that it should be legal and isn’t harmful.

I sometimes think Baker is lying when it comes to this shit. He strikes me as the type of guy who likes to get high…or who has family members who get high. There’s obviously not going to be some story that surfaces about how one of Charlie’s relatives OD’d on pot or anything…I just want to know what his actual reasoning behind his anti-pot stance is; because it is laughable and ridiculous.

Back 15 – 20 years ago I used to talk with my grandfather about pot at family get togethers and he told me “before the end of your lifetime pot will be legalized – because it shouldn’t be illegal, and it’s ban is purely political” as we were once discussing the principles behind its ban. My grandfather was a wonderful man, a history teacher for the US Army, a college professor, and an all around killer guy. So, if an 80 year old man who doesn’t smoke pot (back 15 – 20 years ago when things weren’t as lax as now – this was back when many people were still clueless) can understand the insanity of it being illegal, why the hell can’t Charlie Baker get it now? It’s 2016 for crying out loud,

He’s a politician, he’s probably taking money from big corporations and lobbyists who tell him what to say.

        May 19, 2016 at 3:47 pm

        I agree.

It’s also true that many people and politicians alike tend to be strongly opposed to something they’re secretly doing. Like when the anti-gay conservative rep, or the super religious “conversation therapy” counselor turn out to be flaming homosexuals…maybe the same is true about Baker with pot. He could be a closeted pot smoker who’s just been lying about it for so long (stretching back to when people legitimately thought it was bad) that he has to stick to his guns, and continually speak about ‘how bad pot is.’

Someone get this guy on camera smoking a blunt.

          May 19, 2016 at 5:04 pm

Baker does have that look like he got all sorts of high back in the day. Baker getting baked. I bet in his day he could rip on a bong better than Cheech and Chong.

Me, I never could get into weed. Just didn’t like the feel. Always afraid that if it were to be some bad weed then I’d end up like Chandler Jones running around outside half naked in the middle of February. Give me a cold lite beer, a bad of cheese doodles and I’m good to go.

True that man…with a name like Baker…bet he was a huge pot head. Or, here’s another thought, maybe he got made fun of all the time because of his name “Baker’s getting baked…hahaha” and he hated it so much that he decided to go on this anti-pot crusade for the rest of his life.

“It’s also true that many people and politicians alike tend to be strongly opposed to something they’re secretly doing.”

So you are opposed to pot being illegal because…you secretly want it to be illegal?

I think legal weed would help the opioid epidemic. You got a lot of pain? Go to the store and get some weed, don’t get a bucket of pills from your doctor. You could probably knock out 50% of the crisis right there.
