WHDH: Clinton High School is defending its decision to let a basketball player play after he was arrested for allegedly beating his girlfriend. According to court paperwork, Herberto Rojas Jr. and his girlfriend got into an argument when driving in Fitchburg. His girlfriend said he punched her in the face multiple times. Police said the girlfriend had “swelling to the right side of her face and her lips as well as red marks on the side of her face.”
Rojas allegedly got out of the car and fled. Police later showed up at Clinton High School and arrested Rojas. Rojas went to court on Friday, where he was arraigned on charges of assault and battery. He then returned to class and played basketball for the high school that night. School officials said since Rojas was not convicted, he is innocent until proven guilty and they permitted him to play.
This asshat is a real winner. And of course he spends his weekends in Fitchburg. Because Clinton is basically just a smaller version of Fitchburg.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – society does not take domestic violence seriously enough. Not until someone dies. Like with Jarred Remy. He beat the shit out of his baby’s mother on multiple occasions. But it was all good and society treated him like a normal human being instead of the savage that he is. Then when he finally killed her everyone said, “we should’ve seen that one coming.” Well, yea. Obviously. But I guess we’re just never gonna learn our lesson.
As a matter of fact this kid could run for State Representative and Maura Healey would still endorse him if he ran with the right letter next to his name. After all, by continuing to endorse woman-beating Moses Dixon for State Rep she clearly sent the message to young men like Heriberto Rojas – you are allowed to hit women when you’re angry. Domestic violence is the number one issue affecting women, but politicians never talk about it. Instead the people who endorse and support women beaters are the same people who campaign on lies and myths about gender wage gaps and overturning Roe vs. Wade.
That’s basically what Clinton High School did by allowing this guy to play basketball. “Innocent until proven guilty.” The 1915 Clinton High School men’s basketball team would never have stood for this.
Those guys don’t beat women. They beat West Boylston.
Imagine the New England Patriots pulled this “innocent until proven guilty” stunt with Aaron Hernandez? I’m sure that would go over well. Plus, the cops came INTO CLINTON HIGH SCHOOL and arrested his ass. And he played basketball for the school later on that day!! That’s INSANE!!!
Newsflash CHS administrators – he did it. It’s not even in question. The girl had a swollen face and red marks that are consistent with being struck in the face. You don’t get to punch women in the face one day and play basketball for your high school the next. Education might be a right, but playing basketball isn’t.
And for what it’s worth, the kid isn’t even any good. He scored ONE POINT in the game in question. One. They were playing St. John’s. Now I haven’t had the chance to follow much high school basketball this year, but I can guarantee St. John’s won that game by a million. So why would they bring this sort of public scrutiny on their school for such a meaningless game?
Here’s my question – where the hell is the MIAA? This is an organization that suspends kids for smoking cigars at their graduation parties. This is an organization that brought a high school student to court to try to prevent him from playing football at the high school he attends. But they’ll overlook an arrest for domestic violence? Yea, that about sums up the priorities of the MIAA. It’s Roger Goodell for high school kids.
Anyway, Clinton High School administrators owe the public an apology. They owe survivors of domestic violence an apology. The owe the victim in this case an apology. Because let’s be clear – allowing this kid to play is an endorsement of domestic violence.
