Good news for Michael Gaffney’s campaign for mayor today as City Councillor Konnie Lukes announced she would not be running for mayor. And the press release she emailed us was one of the most scathing, in your face, truthful bursts of knowledge these eyes have ever seen. Her comments are italicized and our thoughts follow in bold:
I have never in all my years in public office seen Worcester plagued by so much discontent, gang, school and gun violence, coupled with an opiod epidemic and racial stress. Random construction projects and tax incentive deals for big developers cannot substitute for a safe city.
Exactly. Joe Petty will brag all the time about how he’s “worked together” to develop City Square. Check out Joe Petty’s interview in the Telegram and Gazette. He says “working together” eight times, including three times in one sentence. Because it means nothing but it sounds good. One day there may even be a hotel there that no one will stay in, so long as we continue to “work together.” So as long as you value new hotels at Washington Square more than you do school and gang violence, waste of time and money DOJ meetings, and crackheads standing on street corners and robbing you homes, then you will agree with Joe Petty that things are going just fine.
The importance of public safety is being sidestepped by too many of the candidates. A campaign strategy of silence, denial and caution is a safe way to fool voters into accepting the turbulent events as routine and inevitable. And so voters can conclude that there is no need to vote, since nothing can be changed and it is useless to fight a blind City Hall.
Yup. Pretty much all we’ve heard from Petty and his loyal band of merry men is how Worcester is relatively safe compared to other New England cities. As if that’s supposed to make you feel better when your car gets stolen, or you can’t send your kids to a public school because you don’t want their education being continually disrupted by behavior problems that administration refuses to discipline.
We’ve heard the LIE over and over again from Jumpin Joe that Worcester is safe. If you believe that then you are very, very dumb. And I feel bad for you that your loyalties to an empty suit who was handed the mayoral job because he was half a step up from Dicky Rushton, blind you to the fact that you are being lied to.
She’s absolutely right that voters have concluded that it is pointless to vote. Why would they? Every year we bring the same idiots back. But THIS is the year we can change that. Grafton Hill, Webster Square, Quinsigamond Village, Burncoat St, West Boylston St, and other neighborhoods with blue collar taxpayers NEED to get off their butts on November 3rd and vote for Michael Gaffney. The beauty of democracy is the people get the government they voted for. So juice up the minivan and pick up everyone you know and have them vote for Mike Gaffney.
Too many candidates are avoiding the real issues because its safer to depend on the city’s political machine to get out the vote of those candidates who are loyal to the machine. The inbreeding of the political entities in Worcester including our Congressman’s office, the Chamber of Commerce, numerous non-profits and community groups, some of whom depend on the receipt of public monies are like a cancer infecting the political and financial health of the city.
Preach sister! Are we all just FORGETTING that Petty and Rushton and Rivera ignored the fact that Mosaic was stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from the city? Are we just IGNORING the fact that they all predicted the audit would come back clean, only to see the initial audit immediately come back dirty?
So why do they have this power? Because as Konnie said, the machine has their back, and the machine has all the money. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are donated to Petty’s campaign directly from people living outside of the city. The teacher’s union endorsed Petty, despite the fact that he told Lenny to shut the hell up when confronted about the incompetent principal at North High, because Lenny is your typical corrupt machine soldier.
All this power and influence comes from Jim McGovern and Tim Murray, both of whom are campaigning heavily for Petty. You have the power to take it back from them on November 3.
Dividing and conquering the few free spirits who are unafraid to challenge the status quo will doom any real solutions to the problems facing the city. For those reasons, I have decided to ask the voters for their vote to reelect me to the City Council where I can continue to uncover and reveal the issues while fighting for solutions that we so urgently need and to vote carefully for their choice of the next Mayor.
AKA Konnie Lukes and Mike Gaffney have been the only two people on the council who haven’t been afraid to take on the corruption that is keeping this city down. So if she ran then the normal people would have their votes split in half between the two of them and Petty would win by default.
Look, I’m sure there’s some nice people who vote for Joe Petty. But the problem is they don’t know why they’re supporting him. They’ve been convinced that Konnie Lukes and Mike Gaffney are “obstructionists” and “Tea Party,” because that’s the lie that Paul Giorgio and Joe Petty have fed them. They are bigger liars than Roger Goodell though, and none of this is actually true. Here’s a couple examples of what I’m talking about:
I don’t know Andrew, and he seems like a nice guy. But clearly he hasn’t been paying attention to what happened to people like Janice Harvey under Joe Petty’s watch. You may recall that Janice taught at North High School. After writing an op-ed in Worcester Magazine in which she stated that the was “color-blind” when looking at her students, she was publicly reprimanded and humiliated by her principal Lisa Dyer, who outright called her a racist in a schoolwide email meant to embarrass her.
What does this have to do with Joe Petty? Well the Teacher’ Union, led by Petty supporter Lenny Zelauskus, demanded that Lisa Dyer be removed as principal. Not only was she not removed, she wasn’t reprimanded, AND her contract was renewed. Superintendent Melinda Boone applauded the way Dyer handled the situation, as did Joe Petty. Here is a recording of Joe Petty reaffirming his support for Lisa Dyer’s actions and silencing Lenny, who just so happens to be a financial donor to Petty:
If Andrew knew that he probably wouldn’t be supporting Petty. But it’s easier to be oblivious and vote for the guy the machine tells you to vote for. Make no doubt about it though, Joe Petty is as anti-teacher as you get. North High School was lucky to have Janice Harvey, but she was forced out of there directly as a result of his unwavering support for Lisa Dyer.
Then there’s this:
Yup. Best in America. Someone actually believes that. Who cares if this isn’t backed up by an facts and completely ignores reality? As long as you smile and hold a sign with Petty on it that’s all that matters.
This is what I’m talking about right here though:
Here’s a couple facts:
- Joe Petty opposed cops at North High School even after four vice principals were assaulted by students.
- Kids aren’t as dumb as people like Ben Moore think they are. They possess the ability to think for themselves, as can be seen in the fact that over half the student body at North High signed a petition asking for cops in their school.
- The police at North High School were an overwhelming success, just as we knew they would be. Seniors at North High graduation gave a special award to the police officers who patrolled the hallways of their schools, keeping students and teachers safe while building relationships with the community.
- Ben Moore has never spent a day in a public high school and has never spoken with a single student at North High School. Yet he feels that his opinion is valid because he is regurgitating lies that are being fed to him by Joe Petty and the machine.
Konnie and Gaffney both made substantial progress in the recent election. Konnie went from 3rd to 2nd, while Gaffney went from 6th to 4th. Their work is not done though. We need BOTH of them back on the City Council in November, and we MUST elect Gaffney our new Mayor on November 3. Do the right thing. Share this article with a Petty supporter who is blindly supporting him without knowing the facts.
Take your city back.
