In the least surprising news of the day, these two things happened:
- Moses Dixon is now blaming the victim who swore under penalties of perjury that he choked her until she was covered with red marks
- The Turtlegram and Gazette completely stole our story (a story they were aware of and were too gutless to report) and didn’t bother citing Turtleboy because they are a joke
But since we’re not a low class smut newspaper, we will at least like their article here:
The Democratic candidate for state representative in the 17th Worcester District, Moses S. Dixon, this week is defending himself against domestic assault allegations made four years ago by a former “college sweetheart.” Courthouse records published on May 10, 2012, in the Telegram & Gazette indicated that Mr. Dixon, of Worcester, was charged with assault and battery. The court record said the case was continued to June 18 of that year. The case file was later sealed and no disposition information was available to a reporter this week at Central District Court.
In a restraining order affidavit, dated May 8, 2012, obtained by the Telegram & Gazette in Central District Court this week, Kristal A. Hansley alleged that at 9 p.m. May 7, 2012, Mr. Dixon “physically choked” her and “pinned” her up against the wall in the Main Street apartment the couple shared. Ms. Hansley stated that she broke away by resisting Mr. Dixon’s assault, which left her with “red marks” on her neck, forearms and chest. Mr. Dixon this week claimed the allegations made in the restraining order, and the charge of assault and battery, are false.
“Anybody that knows me, know that I respect women, know that I value women, including my own mother working tirelessly to provide a good education for me,” Mr. Dixon said. “To really have this come up when I’m talking about how we can make sure that we’re providing the best opportunity for people in the district is really concerning to me.”
In other words, he’s trying to change the subject. Why talk about his arrest for domestic abuse when we should be talking about the issues? It’s not like domestic abuse is an important issue or anything like that.
Mr. Dixon continued, “The reality is Kristal and I were college sweethearts and we were best friends and we’re still best friends today. There was an incident that happened that I was in the process of making some adjustments. … We had a dispute about financial (sic) and it (the allegation) was retaliation to try to get back after me.”
Wait…..what?? There was an “incident?” So what happened exactly? Did you put your hands on her or not? You’re running for office, so you owe it to the voters to let us know exactly what happened. Did those red marks that the arresting officer saw magically appear on their own?
Love how he’s blaming the victim for “retaliating” against him, and in the same breath alleging that they are “best friends.” Because lots of friendships go through a phase where one party files a restraining order on the other, calls the cops, and alleges that you choked her until she was covered in red marks.
In a Thursday evening telephone call, when asked about the allegations she made against Mr. Dixon, Ms. Hansley told a reporter, “Due to the allegation made that I committed perjury, my attorney advises me not to answer that question.” Her attorney, Andrew Clark, participated in the call from Washington, D.C., where Ms. Hansley works.
“Due to the allegation made that I committed perjury.” The allegation made by Moses Dixon and his attorney. Because if she LIED about this incident and signed that document under penalties of perjury, then she committed perjury. Hmmmmm….let’s see. If a woman had me arrested, made up a story about domestic abuse, punched herself repeatedly so that she was covered in red marks, and took out a restraining order against me, I probably would want some sort of justice when she admitted she made it all as part of some sort of “retaliation” scheme. But that’s just because I’m a normal human being.
Attorney Luis G. Perez, who represented Mr. Dixon in the 2012 assault and battery case, said he showed the assistant district attorney an email dated May 15, 2012, that Mr. Dixon received from Ms. Hansley in which “she apologized for lying to the police.”
With the subject line “sorry!” the email briefly states, “sorry for lying on you to the police! forgive me, Kris”. In addition, Mr. Perez said Mr. Dixon wasn’t even at the premises at the time the allegations placed him at the scene. “It never happened,” Mr. Perez said of the allegations made against Mr. Dixon. “They were having personal issues and she completely made a false accusation.” Despite the case being dismissed, Mr. Perez said the police were quick to arrest Mr. Dixon when Ms. Hansley made the allegation.
Wait…..that’s the proof that he didn’t assault her? An email that no one has seen? Why not produce this email? And how do we know it’s even from her? Any idiot can make up an email address. How do we know she wasn’t paid off in order to drop the charges like so many other victims are?
And how the hell is he gonna say that that Moses wasn’t “at the premises at the time the allegations placed him at the scene?” So she was just sitting around her apartment by herself and decided she’d call the cops and say that her boyfriend was choking her? What was her plan when the cops got there and found her alone? And if he wasn’t at the apartment when the incident took place, then how was he arrested at the apartment? How dumb do you have to be to believe this?
FYI Luis Perez is probably the most infamously lenient judge in the history of Massachusetts courts. Everyone knows they call him Easy Louie. The king of seventh chances. Not surprising that he’d take up the side of alleged abuser, and shame the alleged victim by calling her a liar.
“In a domestic issue, police take it very seriously and, without any explanation allowed by Moses, they arrested him. But, we had an email from her (Ms. Hansley) apologizing that she had lied about this situation,” Mr. Perez said. “As a result of that, that case was dismissed, complete dismissal on this matter.”
This is such a shitty thing to do to a woman who says she was abused. Especially when studies have shown that 80% of domestic violence charges end up getting dropped when the victim gets cold feet. Compare that to DUI charges, of which only 34% end up getting dropped. Because the arresting officer who has to testify for a DUI case doesn’t have to relive a traumatic event like the victim of domestic violence does when they are forced to take the stand. Would you want to have your character ripped apart by a vicious attorney like Luis Perez? Would you wanna get slut shamed? Would you wanna relive the worst moment of your life over and over again in public, and have it drag on for months? Of course not.
So even if she did in fact write this email that they haven’t produced, it means nothing. Because it’s common behavior from victims of domestic violence. Oh yea, and if you wanna see classy, then check out how Kate Campanale is handling this situation:
Rep. Kate Campanale, R-Leicester, is running for re-election to a second term in the 17th Worcester District that includes Leicester and portions of Worcester. Ms. Campanale said she found the allegations made in the restraining order “difficult” to read, but added, she doesn’t have any intention to make it an issue in her campaign.
“I’ve represented this district for two years now. I got to know the people and I think this is really a question the voters will have to decide,” Ms. Campanale said. “I’m not bringing it up as an issue in the campaign but it does bring up an issue of domestic violence and that’s serious and important to me and I think a lot of voters out there.”
Ms. Campanale said we need to empower women to break away from an abusive situation. “You see a lot of victims that are intimidated and don’t have the strength to break away. They are scared and terrified in their situation. And they have fear of retaliation,” she said. “There is a victim here. We can’t ignore the action. But, as a victim myself of sexual assault and stalking … it brings up those feelings that I had when I was in this situation,” she said.
Wow. Talk about taking the high road. You think if they had any dirt on her they’d be this nice about it? Guaranteed if she didn’t do this then they’d release the names of every guy she’s ever dated. Because that’s just what they do to women who cross them – they destroy them.
Of course the people who instinctively believe every Donald Trump accuser are the same ones victim-shaming this woman now:
Hey moron – what part of, “no one has seen this alleged email” do you not understand? Only someone who truly hates women with every ounce of their being would instinctively believe a story from a man who is paid to get off sleazy criminals. Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me
Brendan Melican Sean Duro.
Oh, and for the record – Kate Campanale has had nothing to do with digging this up. We actually approached her on Facebook about advertising on our site and she said she wasn’t interested. Because she didn’t want an ugly campaign. We found out about his arrest from a comment someone made on our blog in September. We’ve been researching relentlessly since.
Anyway, the mere fact that this was even alleged disqualifies Moses Dixon from holding office. This doesn’t happen to normal people. Normal people don’t randomly have ex-girlfriends arrest them for domestic violence, and then claim to be best friends with them four years later when they ran for office. And if the case was in fact sealed then how come there are no records of it anywhere in the computers at the courthouse?
The mere fact that Maura Healey came all the way to Worcester in June to endorse him shows you that the most powerful people in the state are heavily invested in his election. They could easily make this all disappear. When cases get sealed the minutes from their day in court don’t disappear. Someone did that. Plus, why did we have to dig this up in the first place? Why wasn’t he honest about it? How can anyone in good conscience vote for someone with so many unanswered questions lingering over their heads? You can’t. If you’re still voting for Moses Dixon then there’s no way around it – you don’t respect women nearly as much as you do the party.
