We got an email last week from an app developer who has had their eye on Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia, AKA the Baby Face Boner Champ. Check this out:

I have been following Jasiel Correia for several years, now. Since right before his initial campaign run. I am an app developer, who also acts as an investor for promising technology in the South Shore area. The thing that caught my eye about Mr. Correia, was that he was not going through traditional investment channels.  He was not attending business development conferences or networking events.  He doesn’t have any noteworthy familial connections, nor impressive alumni from Providence College.  He didn’t even attend an event at Providence College specifically to connect entrepreneurs with investors like me.

Then one day, he fucked up. He lapsed on his payment for his GitHub account, and all of his code repos were temporarily public. I got a glimpse of all the code backing SnoOwl, and it’s exactly what I guessed: a cookie-cutter app template he purchased for $45, and a handful of cheap $5/hr Indian developers off Upwork committing updates that were simple enough to swap out colors & logos, while mimicking the promised functionality.  All-in-all, there was under $200 worth of “work” done on the app, none of which was done by him.

So how did this kid with no connections, and no skills, and no working PoC, manage to raise that amount of money?  Curiosity got the best of me. The investors in this area are a tight-knit social circle. We all know each other, we all get drinks together, we all compete together for the best investments, and talk shit together about the worst.  However, I don’t know the investors in SnoOwl — and neither did anyone else that I associate with.

Not a single dime was “invested” in SnoOwl because they thought the app was promising.  These were flat-out bribes, and the monthly cash injections were directly keeping Correia on their payroll. The Feds, DoJ, IRS, staties, etc. all know this. Each of his “investors” is significantly more interesting than Jasiel Correia himself. It’s a cabal of corrupt business owners and politicians, all of which will come crumbling down publicly, thanks to their associations with this kid.

Alright, what we know for sure is that the app was a cheap piece of shit that anyone could make. He’s also incompetent, and doesn’t know much about app development, which is why his codes became open to the public. This means he didn’t need $360K to get it started, which begs the question – what was the money really for? Were his investors really that naive to give someone this amount of money based solely on their word that they were experienced in app development? And wouldn’t it make perfect sense if this cocky little shit, who clearly thinks he’s the Portuguese Buddy Cianci, told these investors that he would use his influence as mayor to get them contracts that they never received? Wouldn’t you be furious if he didn’t deliver?

Here’s another thing to keep in mind – Fall River just granted three companies licenses to sell medical marijuana in Fall River. Sure, it could be a coincidence, but there is a lot of money to be made in marijuana. Does anyone really think after watching Correia’s press conference that it’s above him to promise some investor that they’ll get a license to grow in the city, and then not deliver for them because he doesn’t have that power?

What person in their right mind would invest that much money in some 23 year old’s stupid app? Does anyone believe people with that kind of money are that stupid? Check out the entire federal indictment:

We can’t prove that Correia’s investors actually were bribing him for tax breaks and city contracts, but we have filed a Freedom of Information Act request, which takes a couple weeks for them to get back to us. If you read the entire federal indictment you will see that not a single person’s name is listed. Investor #1 is listed as an orthodontist. That is likely Dr. David Cabeceiras, who has already admitted to being an investor. According to the indictment he kept giving Correia money, starting with $50K

Then another $15K

Then another $6K

Then another $4,500

Then another $74K!!

Why would anyone EVER hand over that kind of cash to their friend’s idiot son? He was never allowed to see the books either, and this went over for a couple years. This guy must be the biggest sucker who ever lived!!

Investor #2 is a Rhode Island business owner who gave him $50K

As you can see, Correia used all his money to live the thug life.

Investor #3 and #4 are business owners from Florida and the south shore who each gave him $25K:

Why would anyone give this clown all this money based on his word that he’s making an app? He met investors 2-4 while he was a City Councilor and was planning to run for Mayor. It doesn’t prove that they were bribing him for city contracts, but it certainly opens up a fair line of questioning. It would make perfect sense. The app was all just a front and they knew it. There had to be a plausible reason a politician was getting this kind of money from business owners. The app could’ve been their alibi. We need to know these people’s names. Let’s see if the US Attorney’s Office complies with our request, or if they choose to continue to give these investors anonymity.
