NBC 10Warwick police said Wednesday that the actions of an officer who fatally shot two dogs that attacked a man and his dog and then turned on the officer were “lawful and necessary.” The officer responded to reports that the dogs, which police described as pit bulls, were attacking a man and his Sheltie-mix on Titus Lane at about 6 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses told NBC 10 News that two pit bulls jumped the fence and attacked the man, who was walking his dogs on Titus Lane at about 6 p.m.

Police said the officer found a man on the ground with three dogs, two of which were attacking a smaller dog. Police said one of the pit bulls turned on the officer, who had his Taser drawn. They said he tried to use the Taser to subdue the dog, but he was unsuccessful. Police said the second pit bull then turned on the officer. “Oh, he was right on top of him, shaking him like a rag dog,” Paul Taylor, who said he saw the attack, told NBC 10.

“I noticed a dog on top of another dog, giving it a good beating,” he said.

Taylor said the pair of pit bulls wouldn’t let go of the man’s Sheltie-collie mix. The man’s second dog ran away. “I ran down there and I was going to help anyway I could,” Taylor said. “Thank god the police officer was there and took care of it very quick.”

“Fearing for his safety and that of other people on scene, the officer discharged his service pistol two times striking the dog and ending its threat,” a police news release said.

Police said as the the officer approached the man, the first pit bull went to attack him. The officer tried using physical force to stop the dog, but it continued to lunge at him. Both pit bulls were killed. The man who was attacked was treated at Rhode Island Hospital for dog bite injuries. His dog was taken to a veterinarian.

It sucks that two dogs had to die, but what are you gonna do? They were attacking another dog, another human being, and were attempting to attack a police officer. He even tried tazing the dogs, but that didn’t work. He had no choice.

The person to blame here is obviously the owner of the pit bulls. I’m not one of those anti-pit bull people. But the fact of the matter is that pit bulls do have the physical capability of fucking shit up in ways that other dogs can’t. I do believe that pit bulls are capable of being friendly and loving companions. But if something like this happens the owner has obviously failed them. And when you buy a pit bull you have to be more cautious than the average dog owner, because your dog is capable of fucking shit up when provoked. It’s like a owning a gun – you should be allowed to own one, but the burden is on you to make sure innocent people don’t get hurt. You should know where they are at all times. If you let them in your backyard you should have a fence that is AT LEAST six feet high. And you should probably have them on a leash as well. Obviously that did not happen here.

I’m sure there are some wonderful pit bull owners out there. But we profile ratchets for a living. And the trifecta of ratchetry usually includes, 1) a flat brimmed Chicago bulls hat, 2) a chin strap, and 3) at least 1 pit bull. Assholes are much more inclined to buy pit bulls than they are to buy Beagles. That’s just a scientific fact.

The bottom line is that the dogs jumped over the fence to attack another dog that was most likely barking at them. Then they attacked an owner and wouldn’t stop. Then they attacked a cop. Obviously they had to be shot. Obviously.

Anyway, the pit bull’s owner posted this:

And as you can see, Jimmie Lee Hutchins fits the profile:

A grown ass man who rocks a chin strap, drinks Mike’s Hard Lemonade, and owns pit bulls. I already know everything I need to know about him. And the fact that this happened to his dogs is the least surprising news I’ve ever heard.

According to Jimmie Lee Chudstain, it was the man’s fault for jumping in the middle of a dog fight:

Yea, I guess the owner should’ve just stood there and let his dog get killed. It was his fault for intervening. And Sara makes some great points too. Neither one of those dogs would harm someone or another. That’s why they jumped over a fence and several witnesses saw the dogs attaching human beings and another dog. Obviously the smaller dog must’ve attacked them first by FORCING the pit bulls to jump over the fence. Because that makes TONS of sense. And because you have personally never seen them attack another dog, it must mean they’re physically incapable of doing so.

Sara seems to think there is more to the story:

Yup, “minor” and “unknown” injuries are two totally different things. You cracked the case girlfriend!!

According to Jimmie Lee the news is slandering him:

Good point Jimmie. They weren’t vicious at all. It’s not like they jumped over a fence and attacked a man, a cop, and a dog. Perfectly normal. Luckily for you Gabby Rose is going to “post suttin” so this will all be taken care of shortly. Right after she sends in her audition tape for teen mom.

And Jimmie Lee is really helping out by making sure he’s telling the whole story on social media:

Yea, the dogs were just “loose.” They went down to the park to take a shit, stopped at Cumberland Farms on their way home, and were just about to go lie down for a marathon sesh of Black And White Is The New Black, when they got pit bull-profiled and shot by a Nazi cop.

Other friends began chiming in:

Oh good, the dogs are trained to attack. That’s normal. I guess the dogs were doing the right thing then by protecting their property. Because the sidewalk on the other side of the fence that the dogs jumped over is still your “property,” right Amanda?

Ahh yes, the Facebook dog filter. The female version of the flat brimmed Chicago Bulls hat for slugrake chicks on the Internet.

Then there was tin foil hat lady:

Yup, you cracked the case lady!! It was Lee Harvey Oswald in the conservatory with the dildo!! The cops planted the dead carcasses of two pit bulls to make it seem like……..well, I’m not sure the motive, but there’s definitely conspiracy afoot!! Or the one dog could’ve been killed attacking the cop and the other attacking the dog owner as the witnesses said. One or the other.

The fam is pretty pissed at the cops for not tazing the dogs and choosing to shoot them instead:

“They also didn’t attack the man.”

“Only one pit was involved in the attack.”

Two completely contradictory statements, in the same sentence nonetheless. Oh, and the cops DID try to taze the dog and it failed. But nevertheless, she seems credible.

Yea, how dare that guy walk his dog on the sidewalk? Who the hell does he think he is?

This brought the “fuck the po-lease” crew:

Yup, those damn cops shooting pit bulls for no reason!!

#PitBullsLivesMatter

Yea, you cops disgust this thing:

I’m not quite sure which is the dude and which is the chick, but I value what they have to say immensely.

According to Shanna Marie the cops could’ve done more to spare the lives of the pit bulls:

Because I know cops love taking deescalation advice from the tittoo-clad GED express.

Others were upset that pit bulls were even mentioned at all:

Newsflash – pit bulls make the news like this more often because they tend to be owned up chinstrap-laden slug sandwiches. And why would the news report it as a pit bull attack? It’s not like two pit bulls attacked a dog, or pit bulls tend to attack people more often than other dogs, or anything like that. Sounds like NBC 10 needs some pit bull diversity training stat!

More rational people pointed out that the guy walking the dog was simply minding his own business when it all went down:

The bottom line is, this is 110% on the owner. He took a gamble by taking in a higher risk breed of dog. Not one of them, but two. He lives in an urban environment where other people live and walk their dogs. He obviously did not have a good eye on them, and did not properly protect them by having them on a leash, building a taller fence, or training them not to attack other dogs. But as usual in ratchetland, it’s all the cop’s fault and no one is ever responsible for their own shitty behavior. Ever.

I can see the writers point on the fact that the owner should take more responsibility for his dogs. But to just attack everybody who commented is just rude. Which makes me more sad for who ever wrote this, it’s a sad situation and tragic things happened to the owner, the victims of the attack, and the dogs. I hope one day you will read this and consider complimenting people some day instead of being filled will insults and hate towards everyone in the situation. Even his neighbor said she didn’t want him owning dogs again because of this incident but before he was an ideal neighbor. It really is sad how you feel the need to shit on people after they are already down and out. I hope one day somebody will show you compassion in a time of weakness. Instead of being a dick. Good day sir. May your negativity dissipate. Asshole

It’s sad the dogs were killed, but they would have been put to sleep after the incident anyways. If I were a cop I would have done the same thing. They shouldn’t have to get hurt breaking up a dog fight. But whoever wrote this article didn’t need to pick apart the owners Facebook. Seems unreasonably low or whoever wrote this. They are allowed to grieve, and in doing so speak their minds on their own social media. The only ratchet here is the author….. mind you, I have no idea what ratchet actually means, besides what is in my tool box

With pitbulls it’s as simple as this: The majority of people who own one, aren’t intelligent enough take care of themselves. Add a pitbull to the mix and this is what you get.

If I were to get a pitbull tomorrow, license it, keep up to date on vaccines and keep it for it’s whole life I would be part of an elite group. There are more people that have been attacked by Great Whites than there are responsible pitbull owners.

Go in any shelter. Wall to wall Pitbulls.

Very sad for the man his dog . If you have dogs you need to be responsible/ especially pit bulls
The dogs had a 4 ‘ fence I believe and even my fat dog can clear a 4’ .
You can never leave them unattended, and these dogs were left out with no one home ☹️ The dogs do what they do to protect their territory it is what it is it’s our jobs to keep them secure.

I would not want to live in a world with no dogs. That being said, I despise someone that thinks he’s a man because he owns pit bulls. If a man has fighting to do, he should do it himself! These twinks that think they’re bad because they own pit bulls are usually the ones that fold like a bitch the first shot they take. And any idiot that says let the dogs fight is a piece of shit in my book. Anyone that loves their dog is not going to stand by while their dog is torn apart by two pit bulls.
And, while there may be responsible pit bull owners, there are many, many pit bull owners that own them because they fight them. They train them to fight. They grab peoples dogs and cats and throw them into the pit with their dog so that he can learn to tear another animal apart. They fight them. The loser is disposed of. The winner is bred so that the breeder can say that that the dogs come from a line of fighters. And then people are surprised when a pit bull kills a 70 year old woman and her poodle, who were out innocently taking a walk. Pit bulls are bred to be fighting dogs and are very good at it.
I never cease to be amazed at people that are proud of the fact that they own bad ass dogs and, when something happens, are incensed when someone says that pit bulls are bad ass dogs. Pit bulls have been bred through the years to be aggressive fighters. And they have the physical qualities. People should not be surprised when they revert to their inbred qualities. The frog and the scorpion thing.

My friend is a cop and he was attacked by a pitbull once and his taser

It drives me nuts how pits are like some ghetto fabulous accessory for tic tac dicked wannabe gangsters, who then proceed to “train” them to act like just as big a holes as their jackass owners!
Gives a wonderful breed a bad rap, and Jacks up homeowners insurance rates for the rest of us responsible game-breed owners whose dogs will never misbehave because we train them responsibly as PETS, not sidearms, and know how to use a damned LEASH!
I love my super sweet bullies and would never put them in danger by letting them out into the world unsupervised. This waste of oxygen never deserves to have a dog again. He and his dumpster fire of a crew can go to hell.
Best wishes to the guy and dog who were attacked 🙁

Not sure why they are all upset the officer shot the dogs when the tazer didn’t work when in reality they would have been probably been put to sleep anyone, at the very least they probably wouldn’t have got them back. They should be thankful the officer stopped the dogs from killing anyone because they would be serving lots of jail time. They will be lucky if they get out of this only paying a few thousand dollars for vet bills and the man’s “minor” injuries.

For what it’s worth, no breed of dog is more likely to attack than any other breed. Pit Bulls are not any more likely to attack than any other breed. They ARE incredibly strong and they have a maul mentality as opposed to a bite mentality. But none of that changes the fact that someone who very clearly knew the owner admits that THEY WERE TRAINED TO ATTACK!!!!! For some reason these dogs felt threatened and did what they were trained to do. They would still be alive if they belonged to a responsible owner.

I was actually at the Warwick animal hospital at the time the dog whom was attacked got brought in. I personally own 3 pits and they are amazing with my son’s 1 is 2 1/2 and the other is 6 months my dogs love everyone it’s falls on the owner my dogs r spoiled and very loved so in turn they show love here is a fact for your tiny brain.
The American Temperament Testing Society (ATTS), an organization that promotes uniform temperament testing, has found that the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and Staffordshire Terrier all had a higher than average passing score, which is 83 percent, and did better than many other breeds, including Golden Retrievers, when it comes to stability, aggression and friendliness, among other traits.

OMG. Glad that the man and his dog will be okay. Question for Jimmy though… when his dog went to the park to take a shit ….I don’t suppose you had any bags to pick up the after them did you?? I’m guessing NO.
PIT BULL owners need to be extra vigilant with their dogs because they already have a reputation. There are 2 in my neighborhood that are sweet as can be but they are always watched!!
To say the dog didn’t attack the man it was the dog and the man jumped in the middle…you can count on anyone of us that love our dogs to do the same! My girl is my world and I will watch and protect her the same way she does for me

I love dogs so much, but pitbulls are demonic dogs. They were bred many years
ago to fight and the instincts to attack don’t leave, similar to how my beagle doesn’t
forget to hunt small animals. Look at the 2 elderly woman who were just mauled
to death in two separate incidents. Google “pitbull mauls” new story comes up
      every week.

AS An owner of many dogs from various breeds for several years I have to first give good advice to those that walk their dog’s frequently Carry an Umbrella if another dog comes after yours open it and use it as a barrier, normally just opening a good size umbrella near the aggressive dogs face is enough to ward it off.
Second I hate too single out any breed as ” aggressive ” But some are more prone to aggression than others, certain breeds like pit bulls, German Shepard’s and the like should NEVER be trained in a manner that may add to their less than passive tendencies, All dog’s regardless of breed are territorial and will protect their home and family, so No need to take a breed that may be more prone to aggression and try to put it in a Hyper state of aggression. I didn’t witness the attack so I can’t comment on the actions of the officer, I can see this from all sides since I have had a dog attacked by a much larger dog while I was riding my horse out on the trails in Belchertown years ago, my response was to jump off of my horse and land on the dog that had my little black lab mix by the throat and on the ground, a good bite on the aggressors ear was enough to get him to let go of my dog and flee. I was fortunate as things could have easily taken a turn for the worse. Dog’s are like children they require constant care, supervision and corrections of any aggression. My heart goes out to all involved, The owner of the dog That was attacked, the owner’s of the two beautiful pit bulls that were shot and the police officer that shot them, rest assured He didn’t want to be put in such a horrible position! An ounce of Prevention is Worth a Ton of cure!!

Big Al, Pit Bulls were absolutley bred to be fighting dogs- or at least their progenitors were. Read Dr. Victoria Voith’s DNA research regarding the breed- it’s clear that they were bred in an attempt to create the “perfect” fighting canine. In the late 19th century, the lower-classes in the UK were primarily responsible forsaid breeding- they looked upon dog-fighting as a sport. So, obviously they’d want to create the “deadliest” breed they could.

All that said, when one speaks about training a dog, it’s about training the owner, in all actuality. Point being, Pit Bulls can be great companions, as long as they’re not owned by some douchefuck.

It’s no use denying that their de facto use was as a fighting dog. Accept it, and move on. Doesn’t make Pit Bulls a “bad” breed.

By the way, your comment makes you look like you were eating a bowl of lead paint chips while huffing a can of insecticide for the added flavor. Jump to extreme insults immediately, and no one will take you seriously. Nor should they, since your contention is incorrect to begin with.
