This headline is so bad ass:
This Turtleboy just so happens to be Irish, but I will say this about my people – we aren’t as good at running cities as Italians. They are the best. Leominster’s had the same Italian mayor for the last 50 years, and not coincidentally it’s become a significantly nicer place to live than Fitchburg. Rudy Guliani cleaned up New York. And now this guy is probably gonna end up making Springfield a more desirable place to visit than Worcester. And that’s just sad.
Why can’t Worcester have a “not fucking around” Italian guy like Domenic Sarno leading the ship? Oh yea, we did. His name was Ray Mariano, and he was the last real leader we’ve had in the big man’s chair. Then we handed it off to a bunch of Irishmen and the next thing you know we’ve been taken over by the Circlejerk and we’re handing out checks to Mosaic like hot cakes.
This excerpt was awesome from the Masslive article:
“Drug dealers and criminals, be forewarned,” Sarno said during his prepared remarks. “We are coming after you – all of you – in a relentless way.”
In the next sentence, Sarno said the city cannot do it alone, asking the public for its assistance in the war on crime.
“I need your help,” Sarno said.
While the crime rate has gone down in Springfield, Sarno said, “let’s be candid, we still have a long way to go in controlling crime.”
The guy got up up there during his inaugural address and told criminals that he was gonna shove his boot up their ass. Mayor Joe Petty stood up at the Worcester inauguration and whined about Turtleboy.
This guy got up there and said that even though the crime rate had gone down under his watch, Springfield is still Springfield and they need to clean it up. Mayor Joe Petty stood up at the Worcester inauguration and bragged about how safe Worcester’s streets are because of him, and of course “working together.”
I also liked this:
He has also been critical of trial judges who he believes have granted low bail and lenient sentences to repeat offenders and violent criminals, and of certain bars that he believes are not doing enough to curb late night violence.
Imagine Jumpin’ Joe Petty EVER calling out a judge for being too lenient. It would never happen because Jim McGovern would have to give him permission first. But Italian mayors answer to no one. When you elect an Italian guy you know shit is gonna get fixed. Period. Sure, there might be some shady situations going on behind the scenes and some questionable characters will get some city contracts, but the bottom line is shit gets fixed.
Just look at Providence. That place looks like the Emerald City when you drive through it because the Mafia built it. Granted Buddy Cianci had to do a stint in the clink for it, but at least Providence attracts people from all over who spend money in their businesses. No one comes to Worcester to spend money unless you’re in the market for heroin.
All you have to do is compare the way Petty handled the black lives matter terrorists and how Serno did in Springfield. Petty allowed them to shut down Lincoln Square and then started cutting them checks via Mosaic. Serno had them all arrested and sent to jail.
Is Mike Gaffney Italian? I dunno. Maybe he can change his name before the next election. At least he’d be guaranteed to win Mount Carmel precinct if he changed his name to Michelangelo Gaffigio. Either way, we need someone different that isn’t afraid to get up there, acknowledge that the city isn’t perfect, and point his finger directly at the REAL problems, not some boy on a turtle.
