So yesterday one of the Turtleboy’s wrote this blog about a local rapper named Big O, who purported to be paying for an expensive steak dinner in Boston using an EBT card:

Big O and his legion of followers were none too pleased about this. Here’s what he had to say about it:

Alright first of all, the fact that he’s calling Jim McGovern a stand up member of the community only confirms for me that this guy has no problem sucking off the public tit. Secondly, I don’t get it. So this is all just a joke? This is all just an identity and brand he’s going for? An unemployed 30 year old rapper balling on straight cash while using his food stamps from time to time? That’s what’s hot on the streets right now? I guess Turtleboy is old.

Apparently Big O has a cult like following, and the Big O Groupie Mafia was out defending their man’s honor:

Well actually, it is our business. If he’s using EBT cards when he doesn’t need government assistance, that’s the definition of our business. Because where do you geniuses think that money comes from? The magic government tree? Ya see, some of us actually pay taxes, and we don’t seem to get much in return because so much of it goes to folks like the “fictional character” Big O. And I know this sounds crazy, but we think that money would be better spent on schools, roads, and public safety.

Oh, the EBT card isn’t even active? Cool story. Here’s my question – why would an able bodied man in his 20’s EVER have an EBT card? See, that’s our beef right there. As you know from the blog since you’re obviously wicked good at reading, we understood that a high rent steak house in the Back Bay wouldn’t actually take EBT. We get that. But why does have even possess an EBT card? Why do we live in a country where able bodied men get free food from the government? We already have unemployment and a million other safety nets. But food stamps are for single Moms with dependent children, the elderly, and disabled, not 30 year old rappers.

And he speaks to kids at the library? Well why didn’t you just say so? Clearly this man is building a brand and image that is a great role model for children.

Oh that’s right, it’s all just a joke. Silly Turtleboy. Just an image he’s going for. Because nothing sets a better example for kids than pretending to be an unemployed drug dealer collecting from the government while driving around in a BMW.

Yes, that’s actually exactly why people are mad. Because a lot of people work 50-60 hours a week and don’t have anything as nice as Big O.

Ummmm, it matters when Turtleboy and other taxpayers are the one’s financing it. Just sayin. 1oo, 1oo, 1oo!!!

True that!!!

So like, did Turtleboy get Turtleboyed again? Because if so, we still don’t get it. You’re telling me that this guy makes money by giving the illusion that he is a welfare abusing drug dealer? Is he actually on board with Turtleboy and agrees with us that food stamp abuse is a problem? Is he just doing this to build awareness that this is commonplace? How exactly do you monetize that brand? Was he planning on baiting Turtleboy with this, knowing we’d write about it and in doing so bring him new followers? Because if so, we have to tip our cap to Big O. Still doesn’t explain why a Worcester Academy graduate possesses an EBT card that is only a couple years old. But nevertheless, our beef was never with Big O. He’s just doing his thing. Our beef was with a system in which you can go down to government subsidized housing projects and see people driving Escalades with new rims.
