Yesterday we published this blog about a local busy body in Groton named Leslie Lathrop who hired the ACLU to sue Groton-Dunstable Regional High School because their award winning show choir was chosen to perform at St. Anthony’s Basilica in Italy on Easter.
She believes this violates the separation of church and state, which of course is laughably funny. No student is being forced to take communion, nor are they required to convert to Catholicism. They are the help. They are being brought there to sing songs. That’s it. That would be like telling Shrewsbury High School they can’t play basketball at St. John’s because it’s a catholic school. Silly.
The community seems pretty upset about it, and rightfully so. After all, Principal Mike Woodlock basically just gave into this ONE woman, who has no kids in the public schools, because he didn’t want to waste money fighting it. So basically he is setting the precedent, that you can hire a bunch of thugs at the ACLU to sue GD for any frivolous thing you want, and the school district will back down because it costs too much to fight you.
We urged turtle riders to contact the school by emailing Principal Woodlock with their concerns. Here’s a response one turtle rider received from him:
You are clearly very passionate. Rest assured our kids will be performing in multiple locations in Italy as well as Croatia. I think you may be missing a larger part of the story. The decision was not my decision to make and with the Supt. We are working to book a comparable venue. Thanks for taking an interest in our Choir group. They are a hard working bunch and I am sure they will have a wonderful trip.
Sincerely,
Mike Woodlock
In other words, he’s continuing his gutless stance of selling out. Newsflash – finding a new location to sing means the bad guys win. Your kids were chosen out of 800 to perform at THIS church. Singing at the backup church isn’t an honor. Another public school will take their place, which goes to show you that this has nothing to do with the separation of church and state. Your kids are honored and looking forward to it. This one woman is using the ACLU to bully them into submission and take away this once in a lifetime opportunity.
If you’re not going to stand up for your kids, then why are you a principal? And please, don’t try to pass the buck onto an unnamed person who made the decision. The buck stops with you and the Superintendent. I’m sure the Groton-Dunstable Regional School Committee will have your back if you take this woman on.
Oh yea, and for the record, a real life lawyer actually contacted us on Twitter after reading about this case. He thinks the woman has no case:
The Establishment Clause of the Constitution prevents a state religion, a la the Church of England

The Free Exercise Clause protects individuals from govt interference with religious practice.
— Brian J. Hughes, Esq (@BrianJHughesEsq) January 19, 2017
Being present in a church while others perform a religious ceremony does not implicate either Clause
— Brian J. Hughes, Esq (@BrianJHughesEsq) January 19, 2017
That is all the First Amendment to the Constitution protects, religion-wise.

His website checks out too. He’s a legit, real life lawyer based out of Taunton. Sounds like he knows what he’s talking about.
Quite frankly I’m beginning to think that Principal Woodlock agrees with this decision. This is an easy one to fight. It has nothing to do with separation of church and state. Plus there’s a million ways around it. You can just say that the choir isn’t affiliated with the school. Just a bunch of good singers from the same area who are taking a vacation in Italy and they’re doing some singing to pass the time.
Do the right thing Principal Woodlock. Stand up for your kids. They’re counting on you. In the meantime, feel free to keep emailing this guy with your thoughts about this. We’d also love to hear from any parents in the district who have thoughts about this. Feel free to email us at turtleboysports@gmail.com or message us on Facebook.
We urge you to support the Turtleboy Sponsors by doing business with them. Without them none of this is possible. Click on any of them to check out their sites or Facebook pages.

Kinda funny that you say the school should go battle it out in court, considering how fast you caved when Lauren Larson sued you.
Why did you remove all the posts about her instead of standing up for your right to say whatever you want about whomever you choose?
If I was one of those kids parents, I would sue the school for denying my child’s first amendments right to sing.
This is also happening in a different country, so why would the Constitution apply outside our borders?
She’s a fucking God hating asshole. She will ultimately be judged. She should mind her own fucking snowflake business. This does not concern her. If the students wish not to perform, that is THEIR choice. FUCK OFF LESLIE!
As a member of the Groton dunstable chamber choir I do not support this article and its message. We stand by our administrations decision to save taxpayer money. It never was our principals call to make in the first place. it was the superintendent (mr woodlocks boss) who made the call.
Thanks imposter posing as a student. Liar. The trip was to be funded privately, stop protecting losers and cowards
Lol okay sure. It’s funny cuz I’m sitting in school rn. Yes the trip was privately funded but that’s not the point I’m making. If the school wanted to fight the lawsuit it would have cost the school a shit ton of money. They already spent a decent amount of money just consulting their lawyer about the letter because they pay the lawyer by the hour. We were hoping that the superintendent would decide to fight it but we understand why she made that decision. Mr woodlocks is extremely supportive of us, much more than our last principal. He even aloud the media into our school to talk to us witch he did not have to do at all but he wanted to help. It’s terrible to see him attacked when he plays no role in this at all
SHUT DE FUCK UP YA MORON. AND LEARN TO SPELL.
I think Brian Hughes Esq. should step up and take this case pro bono. Be some good publicity for him when he sends those SJW’s scurrying back to their safe spaces.
As a taxpayer I’m all for my money being used to fight this in court.
These are the type of women who can never get laid, that’s why they are so uptight, a good pussy grab might straighten her out
I honestly don’t think that thing was born a female. Someone check that birth certificate.
