This Turtleboy was driving down Pleasant Street in Worcester, because I’ll basically do anything to avoid the abortion of a light at the intersection of Park Ave and Chandler Street, especially during rush hour on a Friday. Then this happened:
And it needs to be addressed. Anyone who drives on Park Ave during rush hour should be hung their toes and have tomatoes thrown at them. There is simply no excuse for it. Ever. Like, if you saw this gigantic line of morons going nowhere, and you thought yourself, “I’m gonna jump in that clusterfuck” then just go ahead and kill yourself now. Is your sense of direction that useless that you can’t figure out how to maneuver the side streets? I can get all the way from Webster Square to WPI without touching Park Ave once. It’s a city. There are side streets EVERYWHERE that run parallel with Park Ave. Florence to Dewey Street. Use it.
If you haven’t figured out how they work yet then you have no business driving in the city. Move to Colrain or some place God awful place filled with dumb people where traffic will never, ever be an issue.
Oh yea, and the dingbat in the red car and in the white CRV should be castrated. No questions asked. Their crimes are unforgivable. They are savages. If you see that the light is green, you don’t have permission to go through it unless you are guaranteed safe passage ALL THE WAY THROUGH to the other side. Period. When you know the next light that all these idiots are stuck at is the Chandler Street/Park Ave light, then you know that those people aren’t moving for a while. Don’t get in the way of the civilized people who are trying to drive down Pleasant Street.

The intersection blockers are likely the same dipshits that will do the speed limit in the left lane on the interstate. KEEP RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS.
Or the ones that cut you off to get in the center lane even though there is no car in sight in the right hand lane. Then they do 60 when the speed limit is 65 and most everybody is doing 70-75.
I’m going to have to ahead and disagree with you there. I don’t think advising people to use side streets is sage advice. I’ve lived on the same side street for years, and back, say 20 years ago, there was hardly any traffic on my street. People didn’t drive down it unless they had reason to. Now everyone and their uncle is using it as a cut-through. The increase in traffic in the past few years is crazy. I’m actually considering moving because of this. It’s not as quiet as it once was.
Total NIMBY response. God forbid people drive on “your” street. But seriously, I know it sucks, but its going to happen when the main arteries are overloaded. As long as they are driving safely, there’s nothing you can do to stop it.

All pick-ups should keep their plow blades on year round to clear intersections;.
I always stay back from the intersection when there is traffic. It is important to keep it open, not only to help traffic flow, but to keep it open for emergency vehicles.
What usually happens is some moron behind me, on a cell phone, starts honking their horn and waving their hands at me while saying, WTF!
The traffic in Worcester is nothing compared to what I have to deal with at my vacation home in Bora Bora! Fiesty what ever happened to the nights when we would chat until the wee hours of the morning? We would laugh, love and talk about our future together and hooking up. I would send you cool computer roses like this one —–,’@ and you said you loved me. Then ProfM got all jealous of all the attention you were getting and drove a wedge between us. I’ve always found the quickest way to negotiate Park Ave on a busy day is to purchase a Peel P50 then proceed travel via sidewalk. Just beep at those stupid sidewalk pedestrians and they’ll move.

I know every side street to take to avoid this shit and I know what the timetable to take the side streets. You definetly get thru the traffic much quicker. Lord knows nobody likes sitting in traffic, but that doesn’t give you the right to block intersections. I always think about the emergency vehicles that have to get through this shit. I wouldn’t want to be the reason why someone dies because some idiot caused this kind of cluster. The time table is between 2 pm and 7 pm…I give an hour adjustment either way. I have learned this from bringing my kids around the city almost everyday after school.
I always take Park Ave. The side streets are full of potholes, stop signs and parked cars you can’t see past. The trick is just to never use the left lane.
You can’t teach common sense.

Although I can’t stand panhandlers because they do cause disruption and some a holes push the “walk” button which builds traffic …… The people that block the intersection are simply self absorbed self centered jerks. Another pet peeve, don’t you hate when you go out of your way to let someone pull out or go , then the jerk doesn’t even give a wave or acknowledgment to you …..
