Just wanted to pass along a congrats to some local kids who dominated life this spring. This weekend at the New Balance Track and Field National Championships, a bunch of kids from Worcester killed it. The stars were these two:

Rodney Agyare-May from Burncoat and Adja Sakor from Worcester Tech. Both are juniors. Adja finished fifth in the entire country in the triple jump, breaking 40 feet:
That’s insane. Fifth in the entire United States of America. Worcester girl. Still has another year of high school. She also won the Massachusetts State Championship in the long jump, and competed in the sprint medley relay in the National Championships.
And Rodney, fresh off his back to back State and New England Championships in the 400 meters, broke 48 seconds (47.67) to finish 9th in the nation:
FYI the 19 denotes that they are graduating in 2019, not that they are 19 years old. Apparently freshmen won both of these events. Sick job by these two. Love to see these two go on to get recruited by BIG TIME schools. I’m talking LSU or Texas or something far, far away.
These were two of just a bunch of local kids who had disgusting spring seasons. Here’s some more:
- Doherty’s Wadeline Jonathas finished second in the state in the girls 400 meters (55.81)
- Worcester Tech’s George Biney finishing 2nd in the state in the 100 meters (10.97), followed by Holy Name’s Kevin Mensah in 7th, and South’s Monnaseh Konadu in 11th
- Biney also ran in the Worcester Tech 4×100 relay team which finished 5th in the state (43.07)
- Greg Moschella (St. John’s), Grant Hauver (Wachusett), and Max Michaud (Algonquin) finishing 2-3-4 in the boys 800 meter state championship
- Yulenny Ortiz (Auburn) finishing 6th in the boys long jump
- Groton-Dunstable baseball team for winning the Division 3 State Championship
- Oxford High School baseball team for making the State Championship, following up their boys basketball team’s run to the State Finals in the the winter
- Doherty High School softball team for winning the Central Mass Division 1 District Championship (can’t remember a Worcester team ever doing that), beating Agawam in the State Semifinal before falling in the State Championship to King Philip Regional.
- Turtleboy’s friends up in Turners Falls, winning the Division 3 State Softball Championship
- Grafton High School boys lacrosse, an annual small town powerhouse, which lost in the Division 3 State Lacrosse Finals.
There’s a million more kids we could give shoutouts to, but you get the point. Some pretty talented athletes around the 508.
We urge you to support the Turtleboy Sponsors by doing business with them. Without them none of this is possible. Click on any of them to check out their sites or Facebook pages.
