Reader EmailI’ve been at war with the city about cars parked on Williamsburg and Outlook Drive. Clearly states no parking anytime, both sides of the street. I called the police department as I was told to do by the city of Worcester if it’s a weekend or night. Their response – well are they having a yard sale?? Shit you not. My response – “it doesn’t say no parking unless you’re having a yard sale.” Here’s another I called about. Right in front of the hydrant. Still no response front the police dept.

16325888_10155760775529278_618685365_o

Not sure why they have 3 cops ticketing downtown everyday but can’t be bothered with this hellhole. Sadly I live on the dirt roads behind here and it’s the only way in.

Hey City of Worcester? What the hell dude? You can’t be parking in front of fire hydrants. That shit’s dangerous. If I don’t feed the meter at the public library I get a ticket. But these ratchets can block fire hydrants at public housing and disregard the law and you ask the person reporting it if they’re having a yard sale? Get your shit together. Do your job. Get rid of the cars.

By the way, funny this woman should write to us. Because her neighborhood was the site of a 10-car crash in Worcester, because once again the City of Worcester did not plow or sand the roads:

Screen Shot 2017-01-31 at 5.22.33 PM.png

MassliveResidents of Williamsberg Drive in Worcester arrived home to see a crash involving 10 or more cars on their street Tuesday. The accident happened around 4 p.m. and was cleared about an hour later. “It looked like a big pile of maybe like 10 or 12 cars,” Jana Babineau, who lives near the neighborhood, said. Babineau said residents were cautioned by police not to drive up the slippery, steep hill until the scene was clear. She and others from the neighborhood were idling their cars in a line and standing outside, waiting until the hill was sanded and safe to drive on.

So let me get this straight. The City of Worcester waited until AFTER a 10-12 car crash before the sanded and treated the roads? Ever think about, I dunno, doing that BEFORE, or when it just starts to snow? They have weather apps on iPhones now. You can find out when it’s gonna start snowing. It’s really not that hard. Oh, and an ambulance couldn’t get there either:

Babineau said that an ambulance had to be rerouted due to the slick road conditions. The snow prevented it from safely getting down the hill.

Unreal. And yet City Manager Ed Augustus just got a hefty raise to almost $250,000 a year, which is $100,000 more than the governor of the commonwealth makes. Because that makes TONS of sense. And Ed Augustus hired his buddy to be the guy in charge of clearing the roads, DPW head Paul Moosey, and he makes well over $150,000 and doesn’t even live in Worcester. This is the same guy who just last year said that Worcester did a great job plowing, and that the roads were fine, even after a fire truck crashed along with over 60 other vehicles in one day.

Oh, and here’s a picture a turtle rider sent us from her street near the Worcester/Auburn line. Guess which part is Worcester?

16409992_10210047066326185_1103497500_o

16422677_10210045419285010_3902974241751555446_o

I’ll give you a hint – it’s the part with all the snow on it. Because in Auburn they use taxpayer money to treat the roads. In Worcester the policy for snow is “fuck it.”

So as usual, taxpayers in Worcester get nothing for their hard earned money. They come home from work but they can’t go home because a 12 car crash has made that impossible. When the mess is finally cleared up they can’t get home because people are illegally parked on both sides of the street, including one buttnut parked next to a fire hydrant. Welcome to Worcester.

P.S. If winter ever stops acting liking a little bitch, and decides to finally pound us with some real snow, we’re gonna start going through 20 towns at a time and ranking how they do on plowing. Hey winter, stop being such a pussy.

Rules don’t apply to these folks. What don’t you understand about being a “protected class of people”? Don’t be worryin about how they do. What’s the point of being a /Vi99er unless you can act like one.

Personal observation showed main roads at pavement. In fact last night and this morning pavement was being plowed in TB very own neighborhood.

I didn’t take and fail my drivers license test five times so that I can drive around on streets that aren’t properly cleaned!

I’ve just about had all I can take from this storm. Why didn’t the Mayor declare a state of emergency and bring in the National Guard???????

I was coming home from Barre down RT 122. I was behind a sand truck all the way until the Worcester line. The man in charge of taking care of the roads couldn’t take care of the roads last year and we had no snow. So they hire 2 guys to assist him and still the roads were a freaking mess. Were they ALL on vacation in Florida or something. What the hell is going on in this city. Give me his yearly salary and I won’t do anything either. What the hell. It seems our head honchos get paid for doing nothing!!! This is pathetic

When there is this much snow accumulation it is very cost effective to send out every plow and sander and have them running continuously for 24 hours

I have parents who live at Washington heights (over 40 years) and both of them are retired from working all their lives. The parking up there sucks …if you don’t have a resident sticker, you MUST PARK in one of the few visitor lots (2 or 3 which have fewer than 15 spaces each) OR I GUARANTEE YOU Boulevard Towing will tow…they seem to like to hook up the truck until you come outside shocked and they tell you…pay $ 100 now or $ 140 at the tow yard…Happened once to me, my brother and my aunt. The driver actually tells you as he puts the money you paid him from his sweaty fat palms into his pocket “park in the street…the Worcester PD NEVER ENFORCES the No Parking signs…which is true. Whenever I visit and the visitor spots and visitor lots are full, I just park in the street with several other cars already there. PATHETIC. Public housing and most of what you see are newer model Honda’s, Toyotas and …yes…several Lincoln Navigators…must be nice livin’ on the taxpayer dime!

Your parents lived in public housing for 40 years? Now they are retired. Am I missing something?
How do you qualify for public housing?

Sounds like a good TBS story, documenting the luxury cars at the public housing facilities. I heard they ran Caddy registrations against the welfare roles quite a few years back and were shocked at what they found. They never got to Lexus and BMW because Deval shut that down right quick.

Without a doubt the cities fault. Possibly the drivers involved has trouble seeing over the giant snow banks.

    • Emily
      February 1, 2017 at 4:57 pm

Not the driver’s fault. This city was a sheet of ice EVERYWHERE.
I had to almost ride the sidewalk coming down Hammond St yesterday because the 80 year old at the head of the line wanted to damn near stop in the middle of the Hill… Coming down!!!!

    Wtf
    February 1, 2017 at 2:17 pm

I bet if the people who live on the street called and either complained or reminded the city it wasn’t done it might get done. Instead everyone is so sue happy I swear they just sit around and wait for someone to fuck up just so a lawsuit can be filed. Shit happens, people are assholes, and mostly people suck so let’s just sue everyone. In the olden days Mary jo would call down to Jim bobs wife and say hey did something happen and Jim Bob didn’t get out to plow today. Oh shit power off and alarm off, or nope Jim Bob died last nite and we got other shit to worry about. But since no one knows Mary jo or Jim Bob anymore it’s more like the city hates our street so they on purpose kept the trucks off our street just to fuck up our cars and our day. Never mind that if it was that slick where the hell was everyone going unsafely??

Whatever that new shit they pre-treat the roads with is, its not working. I live on a street that gets the stripes and the snow started sticking immediately. more wasted money on equipment that doesnt work. Do they even try to see if something is working for others before they make these large purchases. I think they bought 4 of these liquid salt trucks. Why not buy 1 and see if it works.
it was the same old crap last night. I needed to drive through several towns and they only place that the roads were not just wet was Worcester.

Your name should be Really Uninformed. Here right from the White House web page. But I’m sure they are posting alternate facts also. You need to pull your head out of your ass for a minute to read this tho. Sorry for the inconvenience.

        (c) Ensure that jurisdictions that fail to comply with applicable Federal law do not receive Federal funds, except as mandated by law;

You can go to the White House web page and look those “alternate facts” up. I don’t wanna be accused of “editing” the site either.

Do you anything about the Law? Wait don’t answer! Worcester is not a sanctuary city, Therefore there is no argument to be made, Facts only!

          • Dumbass
            February 1, 2017 at 5:05 pm

From your precious Telegram and Gazette.

“City officials have said that Worcester is not a declared sanctuary city, but like many sanctuary cities, the Police Department does not enforce federal immigration laws and police officers do not inquire about the immigration status of people arrested for minor offenses.”

Ok so they are not officially labeling Worcester a sanctuary city. The problem is “but like many sanctuary cities, the Police Department does not enforce federal immigration laws”. You can paint an orange blue but it is still an orange even tho it is blue. So while the city hasn’t officially announced as a sanctuary city it is. Trump is smart enough to figure that out as is the rest of the nonsnowflake population. I could probably piss on your leg and convince you it is raining.

I actually live on the same street as the City Manager. They’ve always done a shitty job taking care of our road, and honestly it hasn’t gotten better since he moved in. Blows my mind.

  • LifeofAWifeofAPlowDriverforWorcester

It would be nice if the city would call the contracted plow drivers out so they could clear the roads and make money!! No reason my husband and all the other drivers get called at 4 AM to plow!! They were all ready as soon as the snow started yesterday!!! Paul must not want to spend anymore money because then at the end of the season there will be nothing left over to line his pockets along with Eddies and all the other city hall thieves!!!! OH wait a minute they are saying they already went through the snow budget!!! The first storm of the season the city spent $500,000 on just salt sand and the labor for those that work with the salt and sand!!
Please don’t bash the plow drivers they get upset as well they are not out there plowing! When it snows they are suppose to be making money, instead they get to stare at the pretty trucks that are just sitting there!!!!

  • Typical Worcester with overpaid hacks
    February 1, 2017 at 1:28 pm

No surprise, it happened again with a small storm. Vernon st. on the 146 connector end was blocked by the cops, because vehicles were not able to make the hill. A school bus was stranded, the kids had to be removed from the bus. This for at least a hour, then a city DPW sander treated the road. Pitiful to say the least, annoyed I was in between this nonsense when the road was closed.
