The Telegram and Gazette gave up on reporting local news a while ago, so we feel the need to give a shoutout to a local athlete who is on the verge of qualifying for the 2016 Olympics. Tim Ritchie is a 2005 graduate of Doherty High School and is far and away the greatest runner to ever emerge from Worcester. Not only has he broken the 4:00 mile (3:58), he just qualified this weekend for the Olympic trials by winning the Rock n Roll Half Marathon in Philadelphia. His time of 1:01:22 for the 13.1 mile course was two minutes faster than his closest competitor. His average mile time was 4:41. That. Is. Insane.
This is the second fastest time in the United States in the past four years, which puts him in prime position to be one of the three Americans representing his country at the 2016 games:
It’s even more impressive when you factor in that he didn’t run his first marathon until Boston in 2013, when he finished 25th in a time of 2:22. Several months after that he ran a 2:14:44 in the St. Paul-Minneapolis Twin Cities Marathon. He’s gonna have to run faster than that if he wants to make the team, as four Americans ran under 2:10 at the qualifiers in 2012, and all of them will likely be running the 2016 qualifier. But if Tim Ritchie does make the team he will be the first male runner from Worcester County to ever make the team.
So yea, even if the Telegram and Gazette doesn’t think this is newsworthy, Turtleboy does. Shoutout to Tim Ritchie doing big boy things and best of luck in February at the Olympic trials.

With his white boy times, he’s the nest Ryan Hall….who just adopted a bunch of black kids for attention. Those kids are already in training if you look up Ryan and Sara Hall. Praise Jesus.
If it’s not a St. John’s student or graduate then t&g sports won’t touch it.
He is neither an aspiring rapper or just trying to get his life together by going to community college, therefore no story.
Good luck Tim!
No surprise they publish endless trash from the race baiting morons, but leave out uplifting new. T&G, what an utterly useless rag. It’s been almost a year since canceling my subscription and don’t miss it one bit.
BTW – Mrs. Devil and me tried Smokestack Urban BBQ recently. Great service, food and good selection on draught. Excellent and cant wait to go back again to try some other items on the meny.
You drink beer there? You must be rich $6 for a shipyard draft no thank you
I do drink beer with my dinner and honestly don’t recall what it cost, but it didn’t seem the bar tab was out of line. I usually go for something I haven’t tried before or is hard to find. They had a nice whiskey barrel aged stout that was pretty good and they usually cost a little more anyway. Usually only have one or two beers if I’m driving so don’t concern myself with the cost.
I bet if someone started a blog on the Telegram on the subject of Tim Ritchie, Tim would then get some attention. Why” Because they don’t pay their bloggers so they’d be getting more free content on someone people actually care about. But the paper will always take things that are free!
