Saw this headline on the Turtlegram’s Twitter feed:

It’s not every day you see a home invasion in broad daylight in the lovely town of Sterling. Especially one where the bad guys are all allegedly wearing Halloween masks and armed with knives. A 70 year old woman claims she was bound and tied up while the three clowns ransacked the house. Her name has not been released. All I know is, the term “home invasion” sounds pretty horrible. We’ve all seen what they look like in the movies. But in real life, home invasions don’t just randomly happen to innocent people. The victims are almost always up to no good.

Here’s the twist – the guy who lives in this million dollar house is Worcester’s most infamous slumlords. His wife also just turned 70 years old a couple months ago, so more than likely she’s the person who told the cops she was tied up. Richard J. Magdis and his daughter Stephanie Magdis Girouard own MNS Realty LLC, which owns about half of the Worcester ghetto.

When the Turtlegram questioned him, he didn’t give any details, and only said they took cash. There is no mention of him being tied up or where he was during the home invasion. Yup, nothing shady about that!!!

They’ve got quite a past too:

“MNS Realty LLC, own more than two dozen distressed rental properties in Worcester. Earlier this year, an inspection by the city of 22 of the properties controlled by the two turned up 61 violations of the minimum standards for human habitation under the state sanitary code.”

In January at a police drug raid at his 12 King Street property, the cops found a bunch of kids living in filth:

“Violations included trash in hallways and outside; infestations of mice, cockroaches and squirrels; dog waste in the yard; broken windows; crumbling front steps, and no gas and no heat.”

Obviously he can’t stop ratchets from being ratchet. But the crumbling steps, no gas, and no heat – that’s on him. Too many slumlords in Worcester and other urban dumps get a free pass. They get checks from the government because they rent to a bunch of Section 8’s, and then they do nothing to keep their property up. This is why places like Worcester look like shit. Because people like Richard Magdis and his daughter are not held responsible. Don’t worry though, his mansion in Sterling is fine.

MNS Realty LLC also owns Worcester’s most infamous natural disaster – the Albion rooming house. This particular rooming house is infested with vermin, gets more police calls than any other residence, and has stuff like this written in permanent markers on doors:

“do not ask me 4 any drugs … sorry, my drugs r 4 me only.”

Richard Magdis is claiming that three men in Halloween masks came to his house at 10 AM with knives and stole his Cadillac and some cash. I’ve never met Mr. Magdis or his daughter, but I know when something shady is going on. People don’t get robbed at their homes in Sterling at 10 AM by people with Halloween masks, armed only with knives. He says they took his cadillac. Well, how’d they get to Sterling in the first place? Bus? And where was he at while this was happening? David Farmland? The Sterling Fair? Barber’s Crossing?

Don’t get me wrong, based on Stephanie Girouard’s Facebook page they seem like decent people.

And I’m certain they also have a shitload of enemies. But this story simply does not add up. You can hate me for it, but I simply do not trust a slumlord with the kind of past they have and I’m willing to be that a lot more will come out about this story. Plus, the fact that these dooshnozzles are living large in Sterling, making money off the taxpayers and the poor while they completely neglect the property they own and allow their tenants to live in such disease and crime ridden cesspools, kind of makes them huge assholes. Just sayin.

I agree. Sounds like a slumlord! However, if you live like a piece of shit, eventually everything around you turns to shit. I wouldnt pick up their trash and dog shit either. I’d raise the rent to pay for removal…OR if it were section 8, I’d report the tenants until they lost their government paid rent.

The buildings are infested with animals, disease ridden pests etc. and that’s just the tenants!

    Same. I agree.

The reason you have slums is because you have the wrong people living in the area. Trash attracts trash, and if you have kids living in filth, then perhaps the parents are ones who should have never bred. Good luck evicting a bad tenant. And if you have that gut feeling that someone isn’t quite right when interviewing a potential tenant, you will find yourself on the wrong end of a very nasty civil rights violation lawsuit. And when you have trashy people taking over an area, good people will avoid it.

I live in the burbs and I always lock my doors, even when I am home.

I know them and they’re solid. They’ve helped me out. I’ve posted here many times under a different username. Steph is the best friend anyone could hope for and Dick is a brilliant numbers guy who shared his wisdom with anyone who bothered to ask.

I think it’s funny how the TG updated its article to include the information you posted.

I cannot help but think the worst of people… This sounds way too fishy. If it were a disgruntled tenant they would have vandalised his palace for 20 minutes, not wasted time looking for a safe and 1K. Do people in 1M homes not lock their doors when they are home? I live in a Wachusett town and lock my doors when I am home – alone or with the family. Again, very fishy.

And a ’94 Cadillac? That must be his Worcester car.

You lock your doors during the day when your home? Paranoid or what?

Unless you live in Mayberry, you better lock your doors too. NO ONE is locked up around here any longer, so you’re inviting such fools if you don’t take all precautions.

They were young when the tops were in style and cool. Old school stuff to them, they like it.

Probably can’t afford to fix his properties due to the crazy tax rate. Well, maybe that’s only part of it

In this case The heating (and many other) violations were cited as the responsibility of the landlord. Just Google Magdis, there are many articles on this slum lord and questions as to why he can ignore correcting basic human living standards in his many distressed properties.

Interestingly enough, Ms. Girouard’s Facebook page is now a victim of kidnapping. Agree, something doesn’t smell right about this. Could be wrong, though.

I believe that he dumped the Albion to a new owner, Michael O’Rourke, 53 Blue Bell Road (former receiver for the city for the property, another slumlord AND president of MassLandLords….hmmm – smells like it, looks like it….).

Also, wanted to give you a heads-up about the RMV websites. They ALL seem hosed. I was trying to find another location out of Worcester to use to get a trailer plate (without a multi-hour wait with the dregs) and got nothing but broken links. Then, when trying to call to get a location, the phone system dumps the caller into a dead-end that says “volume is high, for convenience, schedule a call-back (HAH – right)”.

If you don’t take that option, your call is disconnected; how CONVENIENT is that…..?

No heat and no gas are likely the same thing-a gas service. If the tenant is responsible to pay for his own gas, but is 100% rather, they aren’t going to pay for the gas. Not the landlord’s fault.
