We just wanted to take a moment to point out what a fantastic job former mayor Ray Mariano has done as head of the Worcester Housing Authority. Ray is a Worcester guy through and through. When he was the mayor people actually showed up to vote, as turnout was double what it was in 2013:
Joe Petty only got 8,499 votes last election. That would’ve put him in 10th place in 1999. No one shows up to vote because what’s the point? When your leader is an uninspiring mush mouth who is clearly following the commands of a powerful and corrupt political machine, then how invested can you possibly get in the process?
The reason people showed up and cared 16 years ago, was because the man at the top had a vision. We saw that again, when as the director of the WHA, he attempted to implement a plan for the heads of households in taxpayer funded housing developments:
Those heads of households could only stay in public or leased housing for a maximum of seven years, the policy states, and would be kicked out of housing after three years unless they worked or went to school.”
Wait, a minute. In order to keep living in an apartment that is largely subsidized with taxpayer money, you want people to (gasp) work???!!! Or even worse – GO TO SCHOOL???!!! What kind of fascist nonsense is this?? How much did you want them to work?
“Under the revised program’s requirements, at least one member of the family would have to work or go to school for at least 1,200 hours a year. Less than ten percent of the people on the waiting list wanted to sign up to attend school or find a job.”
Hmmmm, 1,200 hours a year you say. Well that comes out to roughly 25 hours per week. You really expect people to work that many hours in a week? Who does this tyrant Mariano think he is? He’s Italian, so he must be related to Mussolini!!!
Look, I think we can all agree that this is a great idea. Better yet, it’s common sense. Of course you should have to work if you live in public housing. Because public housing, just like a minimum wage job, isn’t supposed to be the end of the line – it’s supposed to be the beginning. You’re not SUPPOSED to live in public housing for seven years. Public housing sucks.
Ray Mariano realizes that, and is trying to incentivize people to get off of their asses and learn what it’s like to work like everyone else. The purpose of his program was clearly to HELP poor people, not hurt them. He’s forcing them to help themselves. I think we can all agree that this is a good thing right?
Ding, ding, ding!!!! He said racist!! That’s 20 hippie points right there!! So now Ray Mariano has officially joined the club of people who have been called racist by the hippies. His crime? Incentivizing people to work. Pretty much the most racist thing you can ever do.
It’s not really a surprise this is coming from Jordan Berg-Powers.
He works for Mass Alliance, which does….something. He is the hyphenated son in law of Deb Powers, one of Turtleboy’s most vocal critics who used a GoFundMe campaign to pay the $3,577 in rent she was delinquent on. She also is the head of household in an apartment that was raided by the police on November 12, 2014, because two men living there were downloading child pornography. Oops!!
He’s also the
wife husband of known racist Cara Berg-Powers. A woman, who saw that racist BU professor Saida Grundy mocked a white rape victim with “#whitegirltears, and still vocally supported her on Twitter:
Not surprisingly, both of them “liked” his baseless allegation that Ray Mariano is a racist:
Jonathan Hardy-Lavois lol. The infamous hyphenated hippie boycotter.
Guess who else has a problem with the work Ray Mariano has done?
LOL. He’s a dictator for making people get a job or go to school. Not ALL people. Just one person in each household. That’s what a dictator is according to hippie logic 101.
Anyway, Mariano’s plan was obviously a great idea. Every normal person out there agrees – liberals and conservatives alike. Hell, even the InCityTimes, the employer of Ol’ Man Gordy Davis, agreed that it was a great example of positive reform for the community. But for whatever reason, the HUD decided that they weren’t going to let him implement it, because they got some phone calls from the Jordan Berg Powers’ of the world. Ray Mariano put it best:
“One explanation is they’re incompetent. The second explanation is they’re cowards, because they got some phone calls and some pushback.”
Our thoughts exactly.
The bottom line is that Ray Mariano did such a great job as mayor, and an even better job as head of the WHA, because he had a vision. He stood for something. He had a plan. And most importantly, he wasn’t in the pockets of special interest groups like Mosaic Cultural Complex and the various Community Circlejerks that rename themselves once per fortnight. We need a mayor and a city manager like this so Worcester can go back to being a decent place to live, instead of the current administration who would like to keep giving power to the hippies. That man is Michael Gaffney. Vote right in November. Vote the Turtleboy ticket.
