The school year can’t officially start in Worcester until one of our schools completely screws up their welcome back sign. Last year it was this gem from North High School:

Lisa Dyer Is Off To A Strong Start At North High With Hilarious Opening Day Sign

That was a classic, but this year Burncoat High School kicked it up a notch with…..whatever the hell this is supposed to be:

Wait…..what? It’s like Chapter 1 of Flowers For Algernon. Is that supposed to be a Haiku? It sounds like a Gronk pep talk that was edited by Johnny Damon.

As I’m writing this Mrs. Turtleboy cannot stop staring at this sign like it’s a Sodoku. She thinks there’s some sort of hidden meaning and she’s literally trying to rearrange the words in a sentence so that it actually makes sense. She’s not originally from Worcester and thus she’s convinced a public high school would never put a nonsensical sign like this outside during the first weeks of school. But Turtleboy has lived in Worcester his whole life. I know better.

The West Brookfield Eleementary School was rebuilt about 15 years ago. I saw the outrage in the papers over the stone work. All students are greeted with a Communist slogan emblazoned across the front of the school

    TRUTH AGAINST THE WORLD

    1) what does that mean?

    2) why imply the rest of the world is wrong?

    3) why put a negative thought into little mushy heads? Wouldn’t something be better!.

    4) why something out of a Communist manifesto?

No wonder people are pissed off by “public education”.

    Go look, still there.

Can I axe a question here? Was it a student, or a custodian, or the principal who put up that sign?

I noticed the glass cover with the locks on the bottom of each end. Other wise I’d say it was a prank. I used to fuck with signs like that all the time when BobnMic was a yute rearranging letters so it says something stoopid. But now I was doing what Mrs. TB was doing trying to figure out the puzzle.

Maybe it was a foreign exchange student that put that up.

Welcome to the new dumbfuckery of public education. Probably a Common Core thing.

If you went to this school, you know exactly what it means. “When you play, play hard. When you work, do not play at all. Take care of business” It’s the motto of a teacher there.

Carolynn sounds like a teacher, and after reading her post, it does actually make sense. My compliments to Mrs Turtleboy, she read between the lines and was on her way to solving that publicly displayed message.

Was this a prank and the punctuation marks were removed? Possibly. The knee-jerk reaction is to blame a teacher and assume our educational leaders can’t spell worth a shit. I have to side on this being a prank, as a 40 year old, this is the kind of shit we did as teens, we messed with signs and had a good laugh. No harm, no arrests, no weapon carrying.

And we sure as fuck weren’t protesting homework because we were traumatized by a murder that occurred in another part of the country…….times have changed, but I tend to think there’s some knucklehead teens in worcester that spent a night having a few beers and re-arranging some letters. They went home without killing anyone and didn’t kill a cop for no reason……and I’m thinking they went to school the next day and their parents aren’t fucking the system with an EBT card.

OK so we are all supposed to be able to figure that out by reading that sign?

It makes sense that way. However, if they can’t fit the motto on the sign, maybe they should pick a different motto.

I think the Burncoat sign is supposed to read, “Play, Play Hard. Do Not Work At All. Take care of Business, Play.
