WHDH: A Massachusetts man is facing criminal charges after state police say he purchased tens of thousands of dollars in food supplies with fraudulently-obtained Electronic Benefits Transfer cards and then used the products in the preparation of meals that were served at a restaurant owned by his wife. Jose A. Baez, 55, of Holyoke, was arrested Wednesday morning following a nearly yearlong investigation into a large-scale fraud scheme, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Surveillance set up by state police units in Holyoke and Springfield allegedly found that Baez was using multiple EBT cards to purchase large quantities of food products on an almost daily basis at 90 Meat Outlet and Sweet Life Foods Company on Avocado Street in Springfield. Police say the investigation determined that after purchasing the food, Baez would take it to a restaurant owned by his wife, El Rincon Boricua Restaurant in Holyoke, where it was allegedly used to prepare meals that were served to customers.

Baez was taken into custody at the restaurant and booked at the state police barracks in Springfield. He is expected to be arraigned in Springfield District Court on charges including electronic fund transfer violation, public assistance fraud, committing a government purchasing violation, money laundering, and larceny over $1,200 by single scheme.

“But food stamp abuse is rare,” they said. “It’s a right wing myth they’re spreading to get you to hate poor people,” they said. “Cutting funding or asking for more oversight for SNAP is inhumane,” they said.

We’ve done a lot of food stamp fraud on this blog, but this one takes the cake. This dumpster nugget didn’t just do this a couple times – he did it EVERY SINGLE DAY. He somehow showed up at a food distributor and used a different person’s EBT card EVERY DAY, and the food distributor gets to walk away free…..why? Did they not notice his name wasn’t on the card? Or did they just not give a shit because it’s money in their pocket regardless?

I don’t know how EBT works exactly, because I have pride and pay for my own shit. But is it really that easy to just use someone else’s card? I feel like this could be resolved a lot easier if we made it at least as hard to use EBT as it is to buy beer. Oh wait, I forgot – it’s racist to assume that people have ID’s to prove who they really are. Excuse me while I check my white privilege.

My mind is about to explode thinking about this. It’s a restaurant that somehow stockpiles EBT cards, uses those cards to purchase their supplies, slashes operating costs, and then profits by selling that food to customers. It’s the government literally subsidizing a privately owned business. Every. Single. Day.

And OF COURSE these welfare wallabies opened their business in Holyoke. God knows Alex Morse isn’t going to bother you there.

One less thing to pay for. “Raices Restaurant” appears to be a restaurant in Springfield that the owners of this restaurant may or may not own. They might wanna look into that place too, since their son Jose Baez Jr. owns it. There’s pictures of there stuff all over El Rincon’s Facebook page (which for some reason is a personal page, filled with family pictures that you have to friend request, instead of a business page).

They’re living life large on the taxpayer’s dime. They seem to own a boat too.

Must be nice. I wouldn’t know, I don’t collect money from the government for a living.

How is the wife not in jail too? She was obviously in it. They keep records right? Did she not notice that there were NO EXPENSES when it comes to buying food? She must’ve thought that the fairy welfare bunny was blessing her shitty, dingy restaurant with unprecedented success and nothing but profits. Then again…..

Looks like that’s their favorite adult memory too.
