The disaster known as Worcester City Manager Ed Augustus has his annual performance review on Tuesday at the City Council meeting. Last year he received a perfect rating from 8 City Councilors, and near perfect rating from 3. Because at the end of the day even though the City Council is the boss of the City Manager, they’re all good buddies with Fast Eddie and they wanna take care of their own. Here’s what he said at this time last year:
“My vision of the city of Worcester is a government that delivers efficient, effective municipal services to our residents in a customer-friendly, transparent and inclusive environment, while working to improve the quality of life to its citizens by creating a thriving, vibrant and safe place to live, work, study and do business,” Mr. Augustus said.
Hmmmm…let’s see. Does Worcester deliver efficient and effective municipal services to our residents? Sure, as long as you consider never plowing or treating the roads and allowing fire trucks to crash because of it “efficient and effective municipal services.”
His goal was to make municipal services efficient. Does that look efficient to you? Because if any of the 11 City Councilors gets up there on Tuesday and says that this is at all acceptable, they should NEVER, EVER be allowed to serve on the City Council ever again. They care more about their friend Fast Eddie than they do about you. We all know the People’s Councilor Mike Gaffney will give him a bad review, but do they other 10 have the minerals to do what’s right? We’ll be watching.
He also says he wants to the city to be “transparent.” Like that time he had secret meetings with Worcester State officials and planned to pave over the Chandler ballfields to build a parking lot. Once the people found out they revolted and he was forced to abandon the plan. This of course is the opposite of transparent.
Then there was the time he secretly met with the Worcester Tennis Club, and planned to privatize the public course and develop on Elm Park – the oldest park in the United States.
Or when he spent over $150,000 to hire a Chief Diversity Officer, even though the biggest threat to diversity was him, Joe Petty, and Jim McGovern, who seem to only hire their white friends to head major city departments.

Or when Ed Augustus declared a winter parking ban at 1:02 AM and towed 300 cars while people were sleeping. Then of course he used taxpayer dollars to pay for the towing fees because his administration screwed up.

Very “efficient” and “customer friendly.”

And then he wrote a big fat check to RBG’s poetry club so they could travel to Oakland for a poetry slam on the taxpayer’s dime.

The list goes on and on. To say that Fast Eddie is a massive failure is the understatement of the century. But does anyone on the council have what it takes not to kiss his ass on Tuesday? We know Jumpin Joe Petty will talk about how he’s “working together” to “move the city forward,” because Petty has a lower ranking than him in the McGovern Crime Family. He has no choice but to give him a good evaluation. But what about Kate Toomey? Has she learned her lesson after dropping from second to fourth in the City Council election? How bout Moe Bergman, who barely was re-elected in November? How bout Gary Rosen, who runs the district where Eddie tried cutting down all the parks. Do they have what it takes to stand up to the machine? It might not be a City Council election year, but Turtleboy is always watching and we NEVER forget.

How about not being able to balance the budget…and raising taxes!
Turtleboy is in bed with Gaffney and Beshir. The only weakness I see with this city manager is his quickness in hire ring a new police Chief. Nothing against their choice but a lot against the process.
Such a public appointment to a public safety job should be discussed in open forum with candidates applying. Worcester police department needs civility training and needs to see five times as many officers of color in all positions.
We all understand that their union is always threatening action. The people’s union needs to be heard as well.

Love the ad Mike Gaffney has been running on the Jordan levy show last week. It’s funny too because it has run while Agustus was on the program.
Augustus is so used to people not paying attention to what he doesn’t do as a lazy politician that being accountable as a manager is furthest thing from his mind or capabilities. That and he’s a puppet for the McGovern Crime Family which may get bonus points with communist political hacks but makes you a failure at most other real life jobs.
I have a sinking feeling he’s going to be heaped with praise by all of them – even Gaffney.

He did clean up the city. Ask them both, one was stabbed, the other was robbed and shot in the head. Both around Kelly Square area a couple of days ago. Different times and incidents. Augustus is another poseur who is part of the club. Nothing much changes here, just the window dressing at times !
The snow plowing he deserves F for last winter, it’s was so unsafe
In the dreaded private sector the head of the DPW and Augustus would have been fired for the incompetence last winter. Working for either the government or a college Fast Eddie hasn’t seen a real day’s work in decades.
